What I kinda love is that all of Colin's lady interactions in the first half were always with _groups_ of ladies, even for nookie time - Penelope is the only gal he feels comfortable to be with alone. Marina as well - Colin the Romantic is like "if I'm alone with anyone I might lose my head, gotta keep distance, can't get close," but even before Marina it was Pen. :D
I've been thinking a lot about the mirror motif this season. Various characters and relationships serve as mirrors to each other this season. Cressida & Pen - dealing with unsupportive families, what it is to have Eloise "I simply can't understand how other people don't see things the way I do" Bridgerton as one's only friend, "spinsterhood," seeking independence/freedom; Colin & Eloise - trying to fit in, dealing with Whistledown; Colin & Benedict & Eloise - seeking purpose/feeling unmoored; Eloise & Cressida - what society demands from women; Season 2 Eloise & Season 3 Eloise - what it means to be a present and involved friend (hint: she's a work in progress on this one!); Season 1 Anthony & Season 3 Anthony - engagement response/discussion with Colin; Pen & Colin - insecurity, pining, remaking oneself, stepping into one's true self, learning to love all of a person, being literary nerds; Pen/Colin & Fran/John - what different love stories look like, what does/should familial support look like; Alice/Will & Pen/Colin - stepping into the ton as a couple (this one is a bit wishy-washy/underdeveloped, IMO, but it's there); Portia/Pen & Violet/Fran - giving your kids the love they need vs the love you know how to give, seeing and appreciating your kid for who they are/understanding your parents aren't perfect; Pen & Colin & Eloise & Agatha - how to love someone who has hurt you; Colin & Fran & Cressida & Eloise & John & Will & Alice & Pen - what society says you have to be vs what serves you as a person. Also, Colin's "your my best friend" monolog is super similar to his mirror scene "I love you" monolog. The mirrors and foils are all over the place. I think it's interesting the show chose to explore the various characters this way.
You make a lot of great points. The only time i really considered something like this was with the parallels between Cressida and Penelope in regards to their family situations. Now that you’ve pointed out so many others i can’t help but see the show differently and it really showcases just how much thought the writers put into the complex dynamics (: thank you for sharing your lovely insights with me !
Would you be interested in reacting to a K-drama, cus I think you would love it!!🥰 PS: I think you would like ‘Extraordinary you’ (it’s my favourite k-drama😂) or ‘Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok-joo’
I actually love k dramas! I’d have to gauge the interest in terms of reacting to it on the channel as each video takes a really long time to edit, but i’ll definitely consider it! Thank you so much for the recommendation (:
