- At the CSUN conference in March 2020, Orbit Research introduced several new and exciting Braille devices. One of the most intriguing was a $99 Braille keyboard, the Orbit Writer. I pre-ordered, and after a few months of waiting, mine finally arrived. we unbox it in this video. Please note that this is not a tutorial. After I opened up the unit, I made a few mistakes while I was setting up the device. It is always exciting to receive a new piece of technology and figure out how it works, and I hope this comes across in the video. I was very excited as I explored this device for the first time. Please stay tuned, as I will be producing a more formal review and tutorial in the coming weeks.
I ordered my Orbit Writer From ATGuys. If you would like to order from them, the link is below.

Forgetting a step on a video like this is actually helpful. Good teaching moment plus it encourages people that things do not always go smoothly. Thanks!
Hi Ian. Thanks for the great video. I might order an orbit writer. However, another great braille bluetooth keyboard to check out is the Hable One. It is more expensive than the Orbit-writer. However, it is a great bluetooth keyboard and I can use it quite successfully with my iPhone. I highly recommend it. I'm considering purchasing an Orbit-Writer to compare the two devices.
Looking forward to a more thorough review / tutorial when you have it, please! Thank you so much!
a trick : watch movies at Flixzone. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Douglas Abdullah Yea, been watching on flixzone for since december myself :D
Thank you for your demo. I just bought one of these and will pair it tomorrow. :) Great to hear how it is done first.
12:21 it’s OK, we all do silly stuff like that. lol.
Awesome video, awesome device. Might get one myself.
I do find it interesting that Orbit Research have developed a device that is just a Braille keyboard without a display, I'm assuming they did this so they would release a very affordable product. I'm not a Braille user and never have been, but if I was, I would much rather have a Braille display with a Braille keyboard in it. BTW, what do you know, if anything, about the Versabraille? I believe the Versabraille is one of the first, if not the first, electronic Braille computer, I believe it was released in 1979 or 1980. It used cassette tapes for data storage.
Lachlant1984 My piano teacher at the first school I went to was totally blind. He had a VersaBraille at home. I don't know much about them but I have heard they were noisy! I'd love someone to do a TH-cam channel to show and discuss old access technology equipment like this. I'm fascinated.
@@ladymunch0 Yes I do understand the VersaBraille units were quite noisy, I understand this is because they ran the tape at high speed when reading and writing data to the tape, I don't know how much noise the Braille pins made when moving up and down.
I supposed to get me a Braille Keyboard, instead, I have a Bluetooth Regular Keyboard.
I have had the orbit writer now for a few weeks and enjoy it. However, I am having an issue where the cursor does not always end up in the right spot and it seems to keep happening. I don't know if this is the unit that I got or it is a problem with all of them. If you have any information about this issue I would appreciate it if you contact me. Thank you very much.
That sounds cool. Oh, I hate having those blind moments.
Is this is the Latest braille keyboard???
Hi I like the sound of this Braille desplay
I am also blind as well so we hav something in commen
Hey there! My friend, Beyond Sight is a fan of your videos. He wanted me to ask you if you had Skype. If so, is it possible for you to add him on Skype?
