    Do we need calcium carbonate solution for testing sorptivity

      syeda hussain hi. Sorry. Had missed your comment. I will show the detailed calculations soon. May be with an example to make it more easier to follow. Thanks

    Can you please explain why this test is conducted?

      Deepika Sundar yes, definitely. This video was intended to demonstrate only the testing procedure. I will make another video explaining why this test is conducted. Thank you very much for the suggestion.

    is that okay and acceptable if the test were conducted for only 6 hours period not 8 days

    • @LearningCorridorBharathMS
      @LearningCorridorBharathMS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ASTM says 8 days. However, if you are doing a comparative study between the mixes, even 6 days is okay. However if possible, always do 8 days at least (as ASTM suggests it). In our research, we have found out that sometimes (not always) we have to run the sorptivity test for more than 8days to understand more about the initial and secondary sorptivity.

      Sorry, I have misread your statement/question and thought you are asking 6 days. But actually you are asking for 6 hours. If you run the test for the first 6hours and use the data for those 6hours, then what you get is initial sorptivity. The initial sorptivity has been seen to relate to transport properties and further to durability of cementitious systems such as concrete. So to answer your question, yes. You can do the test for 6hour if your interest is to obtain and/or compare the initial sorptivity values of your mortar/concrete. If you do for total 8 days, you can obtain both initial and secondary sorptivity values. The latter has been seen to relate to the pore connectivity in the system. Hopefully, this helps you. Thanks.

    Hi. Your presentation is nice. Can you upload an example of how to calculate parameters in Excel and plotting charts?

      Thank you, Senthamil. I will very soon upload a new video to show an example for calculating the sorptivity parameters and charts 🙌

    What is the difference between initial and secondary sorptivity aside from the time the data were gathered? Does it have any significance?

    • @LearningCorridorBharathMS
      @LearningCorridorBharathMS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kurapika. Yes. It has significance. Sorptivity test results also provide information about the pore structure (to a notable extent) of the specimens under testing. Initial sorptivity is due to absorption of large quantity of water by capillary pores where as secondary sorptivity is due to diffusion through C-S-H gel pores that occurs for a relatively longer time period (the time depends anyways on the pore structure of the test specimen). This is what we have observed in our studies and also it has been proven by other researchers too. I am in the process of making a video on the significance of this test. I will be completing it soon and publish it. Hope it helps. Kindly let me know. Thank you for your question. [I like to answer to such curious questions :) ]
