- In today's episode I share my personal top 10 watch brands that I feel are greatly under appreciated on the watch market today. I look at super affordable cutting edge digital/analog hybrids, to the very highest in refined haute horology. From unsung heroes of watchmaking history, to brands steeped in old world class and history.

The thing i really like about The Urban Gentry is that you can put him on 2X speed and he still sounds crystal clear. Most TH-camrs sound like they have a mouthful of marshmellows at 2X speed.

Hi TGV, Thanks for yet another great video! I really appreciate watching your videos. I indeed Think that Certina has a great heritage and still malkes some great watches today. It was actually a Certina watch that got me into this hobby. It is a DS PODIUM all titanium Quartz chronogreph which I still have today. My second Certina, a CAIMANO automatic with roman numerals, I got from my wife when I porposed to her so this means a great dial to me.
I can't be the only one, but I find the videos by the TUG very therapeutic?? Coming home from work, pouring a glass of wine, watching these videos, bliss! I'm learning so much and they are such an inspiration to furthering my horology knowledge! Thanks TUG, keep up the excellent quality work, just loving it!! 😉

I would say my picks for underrated/undervalued watches in the current market;
1.) Hamilton and believe it or not, 2.) Tudor.
I think there is so much room for these watches to keep value and with the quality of execution, I would love to add one or both of them to my collection.

I love my Fortis Cosmonauts watch from the early 2000 (ref 630.22.141). It is just as beautiful and rugged as the B42 that you reviewed but at a much more manageable 38 mm case size. Great watch and I'm glad you included it in your list.
In my opinion, this is your most insightful video to date, TGV. Good job
Wonderful content. I really respect how much research and effort that went into this. It was like going to horology college. Some of those vintage watches really caught my eye. No other channel does videos like these.
Finally you mentioned Certina as a brand. My Ds Action Diver is the coolest diver I've ever owned.

Excellent video, I think this is exactly what this all horology about. Know the details, the backgrounds. Everybody knows how great the Rolex Sub is, no doubt, but go a little bit forward ( the horology more than a Rolex), back to the roots, put some extra historical makeup to our watches and immediately you can see this "I-have-a-watch" from a different angle when you look at your timepiece. Really well done TGV, you put your own bar even higher with this video.

Great video my friend! I cannot stop thinking about that Fortis you reviewed recently! Another very under appreciated watch brand in my opinion is Jean Richard. I'm sure you'll have one to review soon ;-) I'm speaking primarily about the watches they produced prior to the current offerings e.g. Daniel JeanRichard. Models such as the Chronoscope, Bessell and so on. So many different models. I like the new ones but I think the older ones are much better and more classic. Hope too see a review soon! Cheers!

Your channel is excellent. A perfect mix of history, style, and consumer information. The Certina watches were used on the 1960s British TV program UFO by Gerry Anderson. In particular the star of the show Ed Bishop was gifted the Certina he wore on the show.

One of your best videos so far, IMO. Interesting stuff and such passion. I was a bit surprised about VC at first, but you are right. It is generally anked below Patek and AP, although I find it more interesting. They have really good taste. I think all Japanese big brands are well known but underrated. People think they are worse than all Swiss brands, but in reality the quality is high to very high. I find Orient one of the most interesting watch manufacturers. Then there are countless wholesaler brands from 50's to 70's that are quite unknown. They were the basic watches of their time, but by today's standards many of them are really good quality too. Often Swiss made with an A Schild movement. I have bought many watches like this for 10-30 € and been mostly impressed.
I really enjoyed this video, so much information. Grand Seiko is underrated and it is so so stealthy with most people not realising how much they cost and the high quality. 🍾🍸

Great video, really got me looking into more of the history side of horology and looking more at movements. Any chances of a video on your favorite movements or most revolutionary pieces? One of the first that comes to my mind is the Sistem51.
Awesome video as always! 🙌🏻 For me Zodiac and Fortis are the best watch for your money if u want something swiss made and has a lot of history. They dont have celebrity endorsers but the quality of the watch is something to look forward to🙌🏻

I enjoyed that video very much, i myself am looking for watches that are not on the mainstream. I hope you can make another video like this one with more unappreciated and less known good quality brands who have something unique. The brands i feel don't get enough attention are solvil et titus, corum, and alpina.

Great video as usual! Really made me think about getting a Certina diver. I'd consider adding ARCHIMEDE to the list of brands people should know about. As someone who values Sinn as much as you do, i was expecting you'd have mentioned Archimede earlier. Really curious to know your opinion.
delighted to see that certina is listed in the selection. I love my Ds-2 and its a shame that not many people know the brand!
You get a like for giving a shoutout to Zodiac. VERY understated brand imo. I bought the new Sea Wolf Crystal Topper Edition which is a re-release of their Pepsi Dial Aerospace model.
My nomination has to be Frederique Constant. They are excellent pieces and the value is there - especially on the grey market if you're buying new! Love the passion and enthusiasm we're consistently seeing. Cheers TGV!
Thanks for rekindling my interest in watch collecting after a hiatus of some years - I hope you will review the Casio Oceanus at some point in time - and comment on their 'zaratsu' polishing process similar to the Grand Seiko - for this series

Hey TGV, been following you Federico and Christian for a while. Been collecting for about 20 years. You're spot on with Fortis I've owned three B42, Pilot and Blue Horizon. All were fantastic watches. You are definitely missing Cuervo Y Sobrinos in your watch catalog. They were founded in Havana and make absolutely beautiful watches. Love to see you cover some of them.

Great list. Most go pull the trigger on a Vacheron to complete my collection.
Vacheron Constantin was one of the reasons horology became so interesting for me. To be more specific, it was the Maki-e sets of the Métiers d'Art. The complete and utter craftsmanship of these pieces is just awe-inspiring.
Hi, TGV! I'm a great fan of your videos and I would love to see some in-depth on a great brand that I don't see too often reviewed: Mido. They did many improvements, like the Aquadura stem cork system. Their movements are very well decorated. You should give it a try. Thank's!
Great to see a mention of Roger Smith , the apprentice to the late great George Daniels - legend has it that Daniels repeatedly sent Smith away with his first few attempts before he agreed to tutor him !
(I have a small family link to this - a relative of mine oversees the Daniels Trust Fund set up after his death to encourage future U.K. watchmaking ) .

Vostok,very affordable watches with real history & truly unique engineering in their diver,the Amphibian.$65 for a military grade 200m dive watch ? Yes please.

Very true comments about the Casio Edifice. I think the G-shock line kind of overshadows the Edifice (at least it did for me). I recently bought an Edifice (actually the exact same model that you have) and I am loving it so far. It is an unbelievable value. I'm hoping I can contain myself from buying more, ha ha.

I know I'm late on this (As I discovered your channel last week and I am catching up) but I love my Casio Edifice watches. I have 3. One is indeed a Redbull Branded timepiece. As of 2016 Tag Heuer took over as the official watch for Redbull.
