Some runs are more than 300 feet. The horizontal error could certainly increase to plus or minus 1 foot with the method shown in the video. Any suggestions on improving this method?

For sure some runs are more than 300 feet. In almost every run, we can't shoot the laser from start to the end position. The trench is most probably 30 feet long only. This is why we have to place a direction hub at the end of the trench on the top surface. This is shown with the wooden pole in the video. When the trench is app. 15 feet deep the error caused by this method is app 3/16 of an inch; this means finally at the end of the 300 feet run the horizontal error is less than two inches.
For sure, there is the need to place the direction hub (wooden pole) at the correct position. We recommend using an HV laser (HV302) using the function PlaneLok.
Even better: instead of using Line Set-Check with DG613, you could use SpotAlign using the DG813. This function can also be used to place the direction pole.

Or just use like eye level like a real pipe foreman and when you get out too far and think you might be off pull a measurement and do the math to figure what grade should be at that footage. Then shoot it and see where you’re at. It’s not rocket surgery
