In my case, as a JKA (Japan Karate Association) instructor, I have to be a registered instructor of a Dojo with the official JKA organization in my country, have a higher JKA Dan ranking, a certain age and amount of experience to be taken seriously, have attended JKA instructor courses, be certified with a JKA Examiner's License, and actively take part in JKA seminars. You can google the Japan Karate Association (a worldwide organization), and the JKA in your country to see the requirements. Ryan Hayashi
sir so you mean that the shotokan style of karate is in reality an Okinawan Te style because it was taught by an Okinawan Te master Funakoshi. The word Shotokan even refers to that Okinawan Te master Funakoshi who used "Sho" "to" (Pine wave), the pen name of Funakoshi.

Thank sensai that was very concise and informative. Very interesting.
Nice clear historic overview. I am working on something like this for one of my International Karate Daigaku kenshusei credits.
I am an Aikido practitioner but I also study shotokan too. This is a good overview on the budo arts.

I'm just curious if the JKA is still a member of the WKF or JKF?
Bill Blinky Yes, the JKA is still a member of both the JKF and the WKF.
