This has always been my favorite song by her. The lyrics are so open to interpretation -- as it should be. But the sound and texture of words and guitar just take me away. "I am cool and smooth and curious, I never blink" just caresses your ears and brain.
This is off her debut... but this is a rerecording. She did several compilations of her songs a while back to retain her publishing i think. This is the original. th-cam.com/video/zCawz3B-iKA/w-d-xo.html
The entire album is fantastic. You’d recognize Luka if you heard it. I’m sure she played it at that gig you mentioned. That and Tom’s Diner are from her second album, yet I still prefer the first album. Thanks Justin.
I would've thought that 'Luka' was her best-known song, with 'Tom's Diner' at #2 (Well, that dancy remake by whoever those guys were). Depends on where you live, I guess.
I missed this on my first watch... Just like Tom Sawyer isn't really the best "signature" song for Rush... Tom's Diner only barely hints at the Suzanne Vega cataloge... Paired with "Luka" is maybe more rounded, but adding this deep cut really makes it more clear what you will find if you dig into Suzanne Vega...
Seen her live a few times, great artist and a great story teller.
She's my favorite songwriter, thanks for posting.
Such a great singer & songwriter. Great lyricist.
Just beautiful 🎵
A lot of great tracks on this album.
Yes! Suzanne Vega. This is a good choice of deep cut - is there more coming?
I never heard this one before it's really beautiful. Her other big one was luka
Thanks Chris. That was nice. Surprising. Thanks Justin.
*And...he didn´t talk through it at All :-)*
All of her early albums are exceptional. Try the “99.9F” album.

I totally played this album until it broke when it came out in 85, not a bad track on the album and love this song

Yes, I much prefer the original version

Suzanne says this song is actually a love song
Definitely one of my top songwriter album faves. She has lots of good stuff, but nothing that ever recaptured what this first album achieved IMO.
How about Beauty & Crime? I'd say that album is similar to the debut... Also, Red & Grey was a kind of comeback that made it clear she had returned...

BTW, not exactly like Rush, but because of reasons, there are gaps in her albums... Songs in Red and Grey (2001) was a kind of comeback album for her
SIR&G is really good, I can do about four songs off it.
