Storybook Land Canal Boats rocks big time even though it's interesting to see how beautiful the buildings really are when you sit in a canal boat with people that you know and trust that you travel with even though it's serious business to deal with sitting in a watercraft with a bunch of strangers who also travel with people that they also know and trust as long as you don't distract them too much.

Depending on the operator/host/hostess/captain you get, this can be one of the most magical and rewarding experiences anyone can have at Disneyland. I imagine just how precious this must have been to Walt. But if you get an inferior tour with a host that is "phoning it in" (Even though they may be following the script.) it can be a real bummer. 100% of this attraction depends on your guide. IMHO, I think that this ride used to have status. Back in the day, you'd vie to be there. It's almost like the luster has worn off to the newer generations. This is one of the few remaining attractions (Jungle Cruise) that the guide could make her (or more recently, his) own. I have been positively enchanted on this ride. Other times, I couldn't wait for it to end. (Just like Jungle Cruise.)
I don't want to project here, but I do think that it takes a certain personality to be able to sell the fantasy that is the Storybook Land Canal Boats. Not everyone that gets assigned to this attraction can do it. Times have changed.

The same holds true for many of the attractions. I saw a cast member really go to town with directions for the Haunted Mansion elevator.
And my favorite Disney memory involved waiting for the train at Main Street: we barely missed the train, but the two young women cast members at the gate told us we were just in time for the Christmas carol sing-a-long. There were two dozen of us by the time the next train arrived; we all got in the last car and ended up singing all the way around the park. (Bonus, the soundtrack wasn't working, so the Conductor did the entire spiel from rote, and had our car provide the music for the Grand Canyon and Dinosaur sections.)

This storybook ride is the coolest! Wonder why Disney Orlando didn't have that in their Magic Kingdom park! Odin's Night Light!🐉
