One of the good things about you tube is that we can hear these concerts. Renata Scotto was an exceptional singer in the early part of her career- this is a precious legacy.
Grande, poteva fare tutto e bene!!!
Scotto was fabulous in repertoire suited to her lyric voice. Abigaile, Lady Macbeth, Norma, Gioconda, they were not for her. Desdemona was as heavy as her instrument could happily handle, and it was magnificent. But I must say O patria mia is beautiful here, with a ravishing dolce high C!
AbsoLUTEly agree!!!
When she stuck to things suited to her.....Wowza!!!
😎😎😎
This was NOT recorded in 1956 but in the early 1960's when she was recording for DG as part of a series of recordings: Boheme (Votto, '61), Traviata (Votto, '62) and her famous Rigoletto (Kubelik, '64). Further, when this recording is readily available on CD (with the high note in the Puritani aria finally corrected!), why would anyone upload this scratchy, terrible sounding LP? Other than some early arias released by Cetra following her operatic debut in the early 50's. Her first major recording was as Glauce opposite Callas' Medea for Mercury/Ricordi (licensed by EMI) under Serafin. This was in 1957, the recording sessions following immediately after her international triumph replacing Callas in Sonnabula in Edinburgh which catapulted her to stardom.
......um........then don't listen to it
