  • Gabriola Islands "Magic Mile - Virtual Walk - Walking Tour
The stretch of Berrypoint Road from the Surf Lodge to Orlebar Point is affectionately known by the locals as "Magic Mile".
On one side of the road you have magnificent vista's across the Salish Sea (Georgia Straight) and can see as far as Texada, Lasqueti, and Bowen islands, as well as the Sunshine Coast, and on a clear day Vancouver itself.
Looking across the channel you will see Entrance Island with its Light Station and if in season you can clearly hear the Stellar Sea Lions barking, they haul out there. If your lucky you might see an Orca, Grey or Humpback whale, or Sea Lions, otters, and other wildlife that inhabit the area.
On the other side of the road you will see lovely homes and cottages nestled amongst the magnificent towering fir trees and see many of other species of trees and foliage including Madrona (Arbutus) trees and lots of Salal and Oregon Grape.
Once you have seen this for yourself you will see why its called "Magic Mile".
