    Easily my most hated match is Seth v Fiend, HIAC 2019. Never has there been a match that genuinely infuriated me more than when they completely destroyed Bray's momentum YET AGAIN via bs rulings. It could've been so much easier for them to just feed Seth to The Fiend without the belt on the line and let him move on. But nah- WWE saw how popular he was and thought, "Mmmmmnah"

    • @retrokoh

    Brock beating Kofi like that had so much potential to lead to a great story of redemption for Kofi as he slowly gets his confidence back up to a rematch. So many ideas there, instead the only reference was Kofi subtly squeezing a pancake in anger during a promo where Brock(or the title i don't remember which) was brought up

    • @BiggieTrismegistus
      @BiggieTrismegistus ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Exactly. They could have had Kofi distraught and depressed after the loss because it finally hit him how much carrying that belt meant to him. He could have spent months turning himself into a better, tougher version of himself. I don't mean becoming a humorless ass-kicker, but someone who can fight and claw and dig way, way deep to win when he needed to. He still could have been funny, entertaining Kofi Kingston, but a funny entertaining Kofi Kingston who could get *very* serious when his back was against the wall. Then have him rematch Lesnar and show him as a much tougher out. Have Kofi show tremendous guts and fighting spirit by taking whatever Brock threw at him but refusing to stay down. In the end Kofi doesn't need to actually win as long as he shows himself as an tough-as-nails son-of-a-bitch that even a monster like Brock Lesnar had a hard time defeating. After the match was over they could have had Lesnar celebrating in the ring and then walk to and loom over a devastated Kofi still lying on the mat. After allowing some time for fans to believe Brock was going to continue his assault, have him pull Kofi to his feet and raise his hand. That allows Kofi to come out looking like a winner even in defeat. It would have built Kofi up in the eyes of the fans and made up for the shameful way in which he lost the title.

    What makes the 2015 Rumble even worse is by the end, the crowd was chanting HARD for Rusev and he actually showed back up since he did the "wasn't actually eliminated the whole time" spot and they were happy because it seemed like WWE was actually aware Roman winning wasn't gonna go down well and then WWE was WWE and for some reason thought let's have the guy we want to be our top babyface eliminate the very man everyone is chanting for now that the other guy everyone is cheering for was already gone.

    • @ofs82
      @ofs82 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think everybody knew that Rusev wasn't going to WIN that, but it might at least have been different, you know? It was done only a couple of years after they did the same thing with Santino, mind, and the fans KNEW Rusev was still in, they were chanting for him, but WWE let him look like a chump and eliminated him again in about 10 seconds. Clearly the aim was the "surprise pop" for him returning, then to immediately get vanquished, but if they'd let Rusev get a couple of hope spots and look like he'd eliminate Roman, it wouldn't have SAVED that trainwreck of a match, but it might have put a little shine on it at least.
      You know, the Marc Antony principle from Julius Caesar - the last impression is the lasting one, so if there'd been a fun 2-3 minute back and forth between Reigns and Rusev to wash out the bad taste of the Show/Kane beatdown and tortoise-paced stupidity, then the event would only have been hated, not despised to the point where it will go down as an all time catastrophe of booking as it is today.

    I've always had a similar opinion about that Bret-HBK ironman match. I'm not against one still being 0-0 at the end of 60 minutes; but not the FIRST one ever....defeated the whole purpose of that stipulation. You could of just had a regular match with a 60 min. time limit and accomplished the exact same thing.

    • @BiggieTrismegistus
      @BiggieTrismegistus ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Drama in wrestling depends upon knowing the audience's expectations and subverting those expectations. The audience needs to be trained about what to expect before any drama can be built. At WM12 we'd never seen an Iron Man match before; we were basically blank slates. Then they never did _anything_ to help generate tension in the match. As you say it could have been a match with a 60 minute time limit with overtime thrown on at the end. It's such weird booking.

    I don't hate the Ironman Match, but I 100% agree that it was a terrible idea to have it end 0-0. I've always maintained that match would be vastly improved if someone scores a pinfall like 45 minutes in and the last 15 minutes are the other wrestler scrambling to tie things up. Otherwise it's just 60 minutes of waiting for something to happen that never does, and "who's going to be the first one to actually score a fall" drama slowly turns into "is anybody going to win this thing?"

Everyone immediately thought he was going to win. They shouldn't have brought him back until after the Rumble if they weren't going to have him win. The Rusev thing was an extra kick in the pants. If neither of those things happened things would have worked out very differently.
      Also, they were in Philly, where they punch horses and flip over cop cars even when they get what they want. Not getting Daniel Brian as the winner and booing Reigns for being the winner is what really drove the hatred of Reigns for many fans and set things back for years. Thanks Philly!

      Wheh I got online 20+ years ago the internet was great because it allowed people to find others who shared their passions and talk about what they loved. Over the years however it's just turned into a toxic mess of tribalism and people seemingly arguing just for the sake of arguing. Apparently it was decided that you have to unconditionally support whatever you're a fan of and that anyone with an opposing point of view is just a biased hater. It's come to the point where there's no room for discussion, let alone thoughtful nuanced discussion. It's not just wrestling that has this problem either. Other fandoms I'm a big part of like superhero comic books and Formula One to name a couple have gone down the same path. The rise of Twitter seemed to make things exponentially worse. Now everyone's hot takes are limited to 280 characters so it seems whomever can be the most outrageous within that limit gets the most attention. Even worse is that people who *aren't* fans can come across a topic on Twitter and now feel they're entitled to enter into discussions of things they don't understand. At first the whole situation is annoying, then it becomes infuriating and finally exhausting. In the end it's not the smartest, most perceptive fans we see talking about what they love but those who are the loudest and most obnoxious.

    5:50 you book The Fiend Vs Rollins in the call like this:
    The Fiend kicks out, again and again and again, until Seth is forced to grab a sledgehammer. Then, as Seth swings the hammer at the downed Fiend's unprotected head, the lights go out, and the Fiend disappears.
    The lights come back up, the ref looks under the ring, the Fiend is nowhere to be seen. The confused ref calls off the match. Holds up Seth's hand. The cage raises, Seth, baffled, walks slowly to the back, holding his belt. When Seth's at the top of the ramp, the lights go down again, when they come back up for a second, revealing that the Fiend has Seth in the Mandible Claw. When they go back up properly, Seth is on the floor, belt draped over him, Fiend nowhere to be seen.
    End of feud. Fiend isn't seen on TV for a couple of weeks, when he comes back, he's haunting someone else.
    Simples. Cool visual, keeps Seth strong because he won, keeps the Fiend looking ethereal and unstoppable, but just not interested in the belt. Booking dead end successfully escaped.

He goes after poor Eugene and Nick Densmore goes ham after his opponent is shocked by this. Nick puts on a wrestling clinic... or he gets extreme. I've started to really like Raw and Smackdown for the bigger characters and bombast, and I still love Dynamite and Rampage for the workrate and slightly grittier tone. It's great!
    Though I also understand that's not really viable for someone who has to take diligent notes and prepare "big reactions," so I'll just say: MY most hated match is definitely the main event of 'Mania 2000.
