Hi Dana, good video. You are absolutely right....I put in way more work hours when at home than at the office. Way less distractions. I am very thankful to be able to work from home, so many are being laid off. The one thing that definitely can be overlooked when working at home, is that you do not realize how much information is being naturally shared with you in an office environment that you benefit from as opportunities to grow and develop your own skills. Working with others has it benefits as well. You just have to be more disciplined at the office so that you do put in a full days work.

I am so much happier and more productive working from home!! I'm actually dreading the lockdown being lifted....

I’m glad that I’m not the only one that feels this way. I think the ideal would be one day a week to have a team meeting and spending the rest of the week actually actioning what is discussed in the meeting. When you work in the office and have constant meetings, nothing actually gets actioned and people have no time to work. It’s much better to be at home.

Dana, you did a really thoughtful and thorough job with this video. Re: bosses who are reluctant about employees working from home, my experience before retirement was that some feel they can't "keep an eye on" and tend to be kinda' control freaks, for lack of a kinder word. They're also the ones that, once used to you being at home, need a reminder that not all of your time is work time. You are not obligated to be available 24/7. That can be tricky stuff to negotiate, but it has to happen at some point.

Can you please do a video on " A day working from home". I think it would be highly motivational for all who are currently working from home , but not used to it yet. It would also be interesting to see how you manage work , while managing your 4 kids , etc.

We started a home office about 25 years ago and so the learning curve has been easier, given the help of a computer consultant when a router went bad recently.

I’ve worked remotely for the last 5 years and definitely agree that I am significantly more productive at home. Any time I visit my office I usually get nothing done due to all of the distractions and conversations. I have really been the only remote worker at my company and now almost everyone in our corporate office is getting to learn both the joys and drawbacks of working remotely. Thanks for the great content!!!

I’m a teacher very near the end of my career. It’s unnerving to feel like a fish out of water because the technology is overwhelming!!! I miss my students!

I used to work from home and it was amazing. My work life balance was perfect. The nature of most of my work meant that I could do it at anytime as long as I met certain deadlines. Consequently, I would often do a lot of my work very early in the morning which would then leave me the rest of the day totally free as long as I could be reached via my mobile phone if a problem arose. My bosses didn't care what time I did my work as long as they could reach me. It was so liberating.

I've been working from home for almost 3 years full time and am the only person who I know who does this. It's nice to hear you talk about the chunks of work time, rolling out of bed and getting to it and wearing whatever as this is exactly what I do and it works well for me.

We are definitely shining. I'm sorry but I did not enjoy office chit chat. I didn't get what people were talking about most of the time. I also just hated people projecting stress, it sometimes ruined my good mood.

Oh you are so lucky!!! I’m grateful I’m still working full-time but it is so stressful to homeschool AND work away from the kids! My boys are getting behind 😭 Fingers crossed that the tech department can set me up to work from home ❤️🙏🏻❤️

Our bosses are considering closing the office and we might have to work from home permanently. This would be such a blessing to me because I travel to work daily on a train and it sucks so much in SA. We used Zoom for our workshops a few weeks ago and it worked well for us because our Course Instructor muted everyone and made attendees type out their questions.

I love working from home however I'm so happy that my girlfriend goes to work at a office so we have 8-9 hours apart everyday...we love each other but people need some time apart during the day and thankfully we don't have any kids!😱

Thanks for sharing this. This is my first time ever working from home. I have a 2 and a 4 year old but lucky hubby is at home too. I am educator in a high school so working remote has been particularly hard because of the duties. It’s easier to reach teens when you in are in their face. Lol. So there are days when I feel like I can’t fully do my job, however, I am fortunate to still have a job.

I agree strongly with your comment on "muting" oneself during a meeting. On Zoom, the host also has the ability to mute participants - that can help cut down on the background noise as well.

Thank you. I am unique in that I homeschool my grandchildren. Now they are not coming so suddenly I am NOT homeschooling. I miss my grandchildren and I feel “ownership” of their education and am concerned that perhaps they are not getting as much as I would give them. I constantly remind myself that 1) ultimately It is my daughter’s responsibility, not mine, and 2) Next year in Kindergarten and second grade they will review all of this anyway.

i worked from home the last 8 years before i retired, i got more done and my boss could tell by the examination of the licensees that i did a more thorough job because i was able to concentrate without things popping up constantly.

The teachers should always remind kids at the beginning of each session to mute, but on zoom the person doing the meeting has the ability to mute everyone. My sister does webinars and has this set to mute all participants until they are ready to speak.

Thanks for sharing this was interesting and I need to do research on careers for remote work. Any ideas for people with only Associate Degrees?

    • @msdanaryan
      @msdanaryan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don’t think it’s a degree thing, or even a job thing, it’s a company culture thing. Try to get into a place that has people working remote. I think going forward after all this there will be a lot more companies with a comfort level for it. 😊

I'm right there w/you. I roll out of bed about 30 mins before work and make my coffee and I'm in my PJ's until my 1st break when I finally get dressed and no way am I wearing makeup. I hear ya on people that don't mute themselves. It is very annoying esp when the host is trying to speak over all of it. I do know the host has the capability to mute everyone forcing them to raise their hand or use the chat function I just wish they would use it.
