    But as a true realist, I also know Fringe comes with many unknowns, chaos and frustrations, and in this video, I will try and help you prep as well as possible for your own Festival Fringe adventures. Who's coming in 2024? What should you pack for Fringe? How to survive the crowds? How to find a good Fringe show? All this and more coming up from yours truly!
    So if you're coming to Edinburgh in August, for Fringe or just to visit the city, this is a must-watch guide to help you survive Edinburgh's peak season!

    Thank you so much for the information about the sunflower lanyards. My 23 year old son is autistic. We live in Edinburgh and he loves the Festival, but he does sometimes find it overwhelming.
    I bought him one of these lanyards, after watching this video. ❤

    As medical students in Edinburgh, we had no summer holidays in our final years which meant that we would be in town in August, in our normal accommodation, and able to see the fringe like an Edinburgh local!

    Growing up in Edinburgh there’s this real grumpy curmudgeonly attitude among locals where you’re obliged to be as negative and annoyed as possible about everything related to the festival and Fringe. It takes moving away and coming back to really appreciate it I think and realise that it’s pretty special to live in a city that isn’t just a boring concrete wasteland and actually has fun interesting things happening in it!

    Hi Kakibot just back from Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago my husband and I had the time of our life. I watched your video’s and they were so helpful they made me feel like I actually knew how to get around The only thing I was disappointed with is I didn’t get to drink hot chocolate at Knoops hopefully when I visit again because I hope to come back. Attending Fringe has been on my bucket list and this year we will finally be there from the 23rd -26th. Can't wait. Is it worth it to become a 'Friend of the Fringe'? We are a group of 6 and one person has mobility issues and one has hearing issues. Anything you can add about how to handle those things? And I'm ordering my book now. Many thanks.

    Any local advice re' finding acts other than relying on the comedians we're already aware of? Do we just take a punt on a random, or is there a source for pre-reviews buzz?

    • @Kakibot
      @Kakibot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately I believe the first couple of days it's just a bit of hit-or-miss - what I usually do is if something sounds interesting I will look it up online to see if I can find some clips or reviews, hoping I will find some unexpected gold!
      In the past I've had a lot of luck with international acts, perhaps it's because for someone to invest this much money to travel and stay, they usually have to be at least a little bit established already, even if they are completely unheard of in the UK!

    As someone who has lived in Edinburgh since 2020, I've managed to avoid the Fringe carnage ever since. But maybe this year I should try to be courageous and go to a comedy show or something.. 👀
    Also, Edinburgh Deaf Festival takes place 9 - 18 August, it's a sister event to Fringe and has lots of events for BSL users.

    • @Kakibot
      @Kakibot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The tram is a bit hit and miss - when it runs it's the best way of getting to town, but when a single thing goes wrong, that's it, trams over 😐 but at least in Leith there are also sooo many buses to step in when things go awry!

      I get the tram around twice, sometimes up to four times a day for various reasons and at various times of day and honestly it runs pretty smoothly most of the time, I mean sometimes you do get that delay or break down but actually usually it means that it runs from one part to another and it’s usually a walking distance. Not to mention there’s usually a massive number of buses if all else fails.

    One more learning from my experience, arriving early doesn't guarantee a good seat. At Assembly Hall we had partial obstructed view. At Pleasance Courtyard, we sat in 2nd row but on the edge. Wasn't bad until a 6'4" person single ended up directly in front of us for Emu War. Both shows we were in line near front of que.

    Always confuses me at the fringe when you walk past lesser-known actors/comedians and end up thinking "Wait do I know them? Did I work with them, or maybe an old neighbour?"

    • @Kakibot
      @Kakibot  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Right!? The line between “do I know them from the Scotmid checkout” and “did this person have a small recurring role on Scrubs” is very thin for my brain.

      Not just lesser-known... Saw Peter Capaldi, but he was wearing a bunnet (yeah, that's my excuse)... "Is it him? Can't be, surely"... and he was gone.

    How did I not know about Pollok Country Park in Glasgow? Definitely putting “go hang out with the coos” on my stuff to do when I’m trying to get away from Fringe this year list 😅
    Can also recommend Braid Hill in Morningside (my local) as great breathing space within Edinburgh - it’s just far enough away to miss most of the Fringe insanity but still a quick Lothian bus trip.
