Just imagine the old crew show up half way in the game that is normally grounded, and it's just a time traveling space ship crashing down into the new timeline, they walk out, be like "oh, this place is normal and doesn't have aliens, demons, or super powers? Ight. I can role with this." and just leave their ship behind and everything just goes back normal in the new universe and no one questions it.
This is a time paradox The boss went back in time to nearly kill the playa to make sure the saints row series didnt turn out the way it does then forgets what happens next because of all the crazy crap that happens and gets wacked until they realize they need to kill the one that stands out the most stopping the games from getting worse

This is the part that always tripped me out on Saints row.. when you are battling with VKs often you can hear when they taunt at you or their grunt or death sounds.. its literally the protagonist in sr2.. you can even hear what the main character in Saints row 1 would've sounded like because the caucasian people from the vice kings have the same voice/taunts/death sounds etc AS THE PLAYA
Lot of people seem to forget that Kenn Michaels was the Black version of the playa in SR1 as well. Daniel Dae Kim (Johnny Gat) and him are the only voice actors to have appeared in every single Saints Row game, even Gat Out of Hell.
I think you can also hear the voice actor for Pierce in the first game as well as some of the enemy gangs, it's either him or someone that sounds just like him
The biggest twist in the SR Series... In SR4 the boss used the machine to go back in time and set the events of SR1 in motion. However since he got killed by Julius this created a alternative timeline where the boss is a Black Girl with a pixie cut in a Mexican Version of Stilwater called San Esperito. Well, if you wondered (why we got a reboot) there's your explanation, thank you 👏
Or, this simply takes place in the Agents Of Mayhem Universe, since that universe is the one that was created after Johnny Gat asked God to recreate the universe. This means that most of the old crew exists in this universe (since most of them exist in Agents Of Mayhem, Johnny included).

Very true. In the first one, PLAYA was, as the man said, wrong place wrong time, and the Saints saved them. So Playa felt they owed the Saints a debt and stayed quiet, taking orders and only speaking in certain moments. In SR2, Playa/Boss is out for revenge. The Saints actually come second as taking over the city and getting payback was all that mattered to them. Hell, you could argue that if you had control of any of the other gangs they could be the protagonist and Playa/Boss would be the antagonist.

If you actually played through SR1 after you took down each gang (Vice Kings, Westside Rollerz, Los Carnales, & dealt with the politician) you actually could hear Kenn Michael's voice(or other voices depending on race). Only voice I played with for each and every game 👌🏽👌🏽
Rebecca Sanabria has the role of NPCs voice too besides she record her voice in SR2 as Playa female gender.. and as the Dex partner who helps him to escape in the airport cutscene i recognize her voice since she the only Hispanic person that has the Different voice from the others.. looks funny and cool at the same times... While Pierce voice also you can hear from the pimps in SR2 and the clerk in the gas station of Brown baggers.
What's especially ironic is that can be your voice throughout the entire original series, making the mirror image of what your character's become even stronger. Kinda reminds me of how they did the same thing for Yu Narukami and Tohru Adachi in the Persona series to represent them being two sides of the same coin.

Playing through SR1, I was 100% sure that dude was the same voice as Male Voice 2.
imagine that the vice king survived the gunshot from troy and he's our new playa as the loading screens shows a coloured guy (not trying to be racist) as the default character in SR2

SR 2 is the best GTA type game out there. Even the AI is insane. I would just stand at the end of a bridge and watch cars hit each other to the point they would explode.
I wasn’t allowed gta 4 at the time bc I wasn’t old enough so I played SR2 little did I know it was actually a better game

They lost the source code for SR1&2 so we may never get next gen or PC upscaled ports :( Shame because they are the best in the series
