    Now that the interior furniture is built we have a few small jobs to do to get the van useable. We ned to connect up all of the electrics to get them working including Solar panel, Solar charge controller, 240v hook up, 240v battery charger, DC-DC charger, USB charging points, 12-240v inverter and 240v sockets and the light which we have also installed dimmers on. We went to see Daz from Woodhouse & Carmen / Caps and Keys to get a new key cut and programmed to the van as the original key has been playing up. We got the hob working by installing a gas locker, drop out vent and Camping gaz 907 gas bottle. The next job was the mounts to hold the fresh and waste water bottles and connecting them up to the sink. We managed to fit 2 10L bottles in which should last us a few days washing hands and brushing teeth. I have also wired the stereo into 2 2-way switches. one switches the permanent live the other switches the ignition live meaning we can have the stereo working on the ignition key as normal or switch it over and the whole system runs off the leisure battery and solar panel. The last job was to install some Heko wind deflectors which I think are a camping essential.

    Dan, excellent work with the wiring. One thing you could look to do would be swap the two separate switches for a DPDT (double pole, double throw) this will work exactly the same as your current setup but with only one switch to operate

    May I suggest doing an acrylic plaque for the light switch/dimmer, you can even laser engrave it!
    Looks fantastic the final works! Enjoy it mate!

    Dan the van looks amazing. You should counter sink a big magnet to the wood slat instead of making a clip to hold it up. Also seen a kit that might help you for load leveling when camping. It was for a range rover but I am sure the company will make a kit to suit your van if asked. It means you can park on the side of everest and still have a level bed.

    Pretty sure you can carry people in the back as long as they sit sideways for some weird reason. Obviously it’s not safe in a crash like but sure it’s legal

    Great use of the dimmer switch for the lights, think i'll use that idea for the next upgrade package! (They're never finished right?) I also thought about the 2 position switch for the head unit, but noticed that my solar set-up also charged the engine battery through the split charge relay (can hear it clicking over when parked and engine off) so didn't bother in the end.

    Hi mate, great idea on the dimmer switch. My van has too many light and is really harsh when you first turn them on. This is a simple solution. Do you have a link to the dimmer you used as I've had a look and can't find a similar one on amazon.

    The gas bottle should be accessible without entering the vehicle, hence why a lot of conversion companies located them at the back, just inside the rear doors.

    • @DanChambersDAC
      @DanChambersDAC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The majority of vans I have ever seen have them exactly where mine 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @HiruS22
      @HiruS22 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there’s no legal requirement to be accessible from outside the vehicle in a van conversion, that’s just nonsense.

    • @avocado71
      @avocado71 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HiruS22 no need to be offensive, check out BS EN 1949, penetration of type approved bodywork is not required to provide external access on a T5 by locating inside the rear door.

    Gas cylinders must be stored in a sealed compartment from the living space. Maximum of 2 cylinders with a capacity of 16kgs each. The compartment must have a 50mm upstand at low level, so the door must not go to the floor

    • @DanChambersDAC
      @DanChambersDAC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info, I know what it needs to be. This 100% meets all regs. It's not just a metal box I found.

      @GarethL2008 ปีที่แล้ว

      I took my gas cert for vans caravans boats and statics the regs are stupid utter mine field. Runs out next year won’t get renewed. Amazing build well done

    • @HiruS22
      @HiruS22 ปีที่แล้ว

      Safety is always best obviously, but there’s currently no legal requirement for a gas certificate on a self build van in the UK unless you’re renting it out.

    • @HiruS22
      @HiruS22 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wind deflectors are awesome, you need to try a different make, really useful to be able to crack the windows for ventilation when you’re parked up and it’s raining. Yes they may make you look like a 90s taxi but function over form every time.
