    I am obliged for this video whichb showed the combination of LM317 regulator, 2N3055 power transistor, five 1N5408 diodes. electrolytic.capacitors and other components. That seems to be a rathet good bench supply with low output.noise. I shall try to test such circuit. It was a good explanation and fine demonstration of the work of the DC power supply.

      Thanks, you are welcome. You can make it absolute shortcut safe by adding 1 automotive lamp of 12 V-45 Watt or 2 automotive lamps of 12 V- 21 Watt in series at the output. Of course that will give some voltage drop and/or will limit the (maximum) output current somewhat. It is primitive, but it works OK when you want to use this circuit as a workbench supply for the hobby. Where always (!) shortcuts are made in building or developing electronic circuits. And: very important: the voltage must (!) be variable from 0 (zero) to (say) 30 Volts or so. Otherwise serious tests/developments are not possible. Fixed voltages do not work, they cannot show how a circuit acts in practice. Say: 1/10 of a Volt can have a serious effect on an electronic circuit on its performance (....strange but true). 6 dec. 2024. Have pinned your comment.

    Thank you for doing the hard work of building and testing this power-supply circuit in order that lazy people (like me) can follow along in your footsteps! It appears that you have made a decision to err on the side of safety by adding four diodes on the output and recommending that two 12V lamps be added to provide short-circuit protection. Knowing how foolish and careless I can be, I too will adopt these design elements.

      Many thanks! You understand what I am doing on TH-cam. Indeed: well tested practical circuits for everyone. Sometimes "hard" work because it must function under all circumstances, also when made by hobbyists in their first phases of finding/understanding electronics (everywhere on the world where they see my circuits via Google and TH-cam). Succes with this and other electronic projects! 8 dec. 2024. NB: you can also use one 10 or 20 Amp Si. diode, when you can find it....

    Spannungsversorgung 0-30 Volt max 2 Ampère, this remembers me to an old plan from 1982, a power supply build only with separate transistors. It works great. It was part of the education of Deutsche Bundesbahn. If you like you can download it from Mega.

    i've got a diy psu very near your example, but instead of 2n3055 ( npn ) i use lm317and 2sb817 ( pnp ) ....it can handle more amps. it's nice to have a linear noisefree psu, even if i also often use a 30 vdc 10 amp switchmode psu 'unfortunately more hf noisy' for test of not sensitive circuits.

    Essa fonte é boa para amplificador de áudio, para bancada o circuito do datasheet é mais estável.

      @@radiofun232 Pode ser não, eu tenho certeza, já testei tudo quanto é circuito com o LM317, até amplificador de áudio, não é um regulador ideal para fonte de bancada, mas é melhor q muitas fontes comerciais de bancada que são chaveadas e muito mais barato se você usa componente retirado de sucata. Aqui na minha bancada eu tenho uma fonte com três saída independentes, são três fontes independentes que usa um par de LM317 em paralelo.

    Hello Ko. It is not necessary to put these diodes at the output of the circuit. They just consume more power without too much of protection. It is better (in fact the correct way) to use a single diode in anti-parallel to the entire stabilizing circuit, exactly as it is shown in the first schematic of the applications of this IC. So the cathode of the diode should be connected at the input (on the plus of the bulk capacitor, while it's anode should be connected directly at the output (emmitter of 3055 in your schematic). Thus the power loss on these four diodes in parallel is merely avoided.

      No, I did this by purpose in this way, using the information in the datasheet as a basis for designing. Why I did that is explained in the video. But of course the circuit in the datasheet of the LM 317 (visible in the video) can also be followed. No problems with that official schematic on the LM 317 website!. But, very important,: they don't show the schematic of this LM 317 regulator with electrolytic capacitors at the input and at the output of that LM 317. That is why I have used all these (say 2) Silicium protection diodes, one single one (that 1 N 5408 to the base of the 2N3055) and 4 of them (4 x 1N5408) paralleled, to get them as cool as possible, by dividing the heat/dissipation, caused by that 0.7-0.8 Voltage drop and/at the current that can flow, when the power supply is connected to an electronic/electric circuit that takes a substantial current, say 2 to 3 Ampère or so. Trying to keep that "output diode" as cool as possible. You can also use a 8 Amp. or 10 Amp. or 25 Amp. Silicium diode on a heatsink for that output diode. Will work better. But I was developing it at first sight for a hobby circuit in a workbench application, where, in general, 4 Amp. output current is an exception. In that case a 50 Watt (12 V) automotive lamp or 2 x a 21 Watt (12 Volt) automotive lamp in series to the output will make this circuit absolutely shortcut safe. Thanks. 8 dec. 2024.       Amigo, a melhor fonte de componentes originais está na sucata, é claro que nem tudo você acha na sucata, mas em relação a componentes passivos, diodos, reguladores de tensão, AmpOp., transistor de baixa, média e alta potência você encontra original e muitas outras coisa mais que da para reaproveitar em montagens.

      I, by purpose, use in my TH-cam video's always (!) components that are available everywhere. You can surely see it when you follow my channel. So that every TH-camr can make my circuits. It is one of my principles. 6 dec. 2024.

    My school time I have made this regulator combination of LM317 and 2N3055 . That time I am not use new parts I buy use circuit parts. I problem is load increase output get lowered but new version buk conver ic but there lot noice .
