  • SS.11 is the designation of the Nord Aviation MCLOS wire-guided anti-tank missile. In American service the missile was designated the AGM-22. The missile entered service with the French Army in 1956. Production of the SS.11 ceased some time in the 1980s but in 1978 168,450 missiles had been produced. The price of the SS.11 in the late 1960s was stated at approximately $1,900 dollars, a cost very few missiles of any type have approached at that time or now.

Those joystick-controlled MCLOS-type ATGMs were way too hard to use effectively.

If you used them and you chased the reticle, then yes.

However the Israeli tankers quickly learned to spot the flame and smoke of a Sagger launch and immediately take evasive action while pouring fire into the operator's position to kill or distract him.
I'm wondering if any of the 1st-gen MCLOS missiles were converted to SACLOS?

Yep, SS.11 was converted into Harpon, which is the SACLOS version of the missile.

in yom kippur war 60 percent of IDF armor losses inflicted by joystick controlled MCLOS Sagar missiles, in Egyptian's experienced hands it was a devastating tool, remember it's not the weapon that wins the battle, it's the soldier's spirit, the one who actually uses the weapon
