Tomahawk Humane Roundhouse Trap Review: "How to Catch a Trap"

  • I just received this today. It took a couple of weeks for Tomahawk to send it because I think it's manufactured after it's ordered. It cost $112.50 + $31.63 in shipping. And it's not available on Amazon or anywhere except other trapping specialty stores as far as I can tell.
I know I said how to catch a trap instead of how to catch a cat twice in the video but I am not doing a double take on this. It's just a sign of my dyslexia as a result of my onset dementia, or rather the set on of my mendetia caused by lexdysia. And I think it's an adequate hands-on demonstration of how this contraption works.
A couple of things I forgot to mention is that once you trap the cat, you can use one of the transfer cage springs to secure the door once you arrive on location if you didn't bring your own carabiner or other mechanism of securing the door. Also, Tomahawk offers a trap handle cushion for an extra $5.

Love your carry strap idea. The point of tipping it on its side is for the cat's toes to not be on the bars but if you're putting down something then they will be comfortable and fine.

Have you used this trap yet? I'm looking for a different style trap to catch 2 stubborn traditional trap shy cats. Although your netting idea was great for easy camouflage so I might try that.

I have not used the trap except to see if my own cats go into it and they have and the door swung shut. But I did have both a traditional trap and the Roundhouse trap side by side and the cat went into the box trap. Go figure.

What I am wondering is would the round trap perhaps be more effective for catching cats that will not go into the traditionally rectangular humane traps? What do you fellow TNR people think or what has been your experience with this? Thanks to anyone who can provide insight.

That's the point of a circular trap. If they don't go into a box trap, it's worth trying this one. I've only used it a few times and I usually put it out somewhere near the box trap at the same time. I don't do TNR. I try to trap people's lost cats and so I am looking to trap a specific cat and I've always been able to eventually get the ones I'm looking for to go into the box trap. Here's the video of one time I used it. The black cat was the one I was looking for and eventually caught in the box trap. Go figure.
