Didn't have to upgrade the firmware (about 1/2 years old), worked perfectly fine out-of-the-box with ZHA. I suggest trying it first before taking the risk to break it.

I had TROUBLE with my Sonoff dongle and the manual bootload didnt work for me. This link below helped me do the Python method (without much python knowlegde). If anyone was struggling with getting into bootloader mode with your dongle dont waste your time like I did... some dongles just dont work that well with the physical button. Thanks for the video SMJ!

Thank you for your video! I followed your instructions, but the Flash Programmer was not showing the "Silcno Lab CP210x ...". After updating the driver from Silicon Labs it showed up. However, the flashing process always fails, saying:
    >Initiate access to target: COM4 using 2-pin cJTAG.
    >No response from device. Device may not be in bootloader mode. Reset device and try again.
If problem persists, check connection and baud rate.
    >Connecting over serial bootloader failed: No response from device. Device may not be in bootloader mode. Reset device and try again.

I pressed the bootloader button several times for a longer period - no change. Any ideas?

Finally got it to work. Couldn't get the sonoff in to bootloader mode.. and used the Python way. Then after installing and installing it again, I saw that ZHA (Zigbee home atomation) already used the Sonoff stick. So after removing that, and a reboot, it worked. Perhaps you can add this to your video. After trying and reading a compleet afternoon, I read that lots of people bump into this. Complements on the video thou.

I'll try it again with the router right next to the controller just to eliminate poor signal as a potential issue. Currently it is on the floor just below the controller so doubt that is the cause. Thanks again for the tutorials. If I can add 2 elements that really bother me.
Before being able to update the firmware, I had to install a driver called CP210x_windows_drivers so that I could see the stick in the Texas software.
And the second more shitty thing!
I already have a zigbee network with deconz running. And it was impossible for me to start zigbee2mqtt with the sonoff stick. I had weird errors. I reinstalled everything from scratch, same thing. The problem was that my rasberry was still receiving payloads from my devices and suddenly refused to start. the trick was to remove the antenna of the sonoff stick at startup and miracle! everything started. So of course you have to redo a complete pairing. If this information can be useful to the community.

Alvast mijn dank.

I realize this video is a year old. maybe someone has had this issue and could help me figure out whats happening. Mine is a zbdonglep. is this firmware good to go as is? doesnt seem to be recognized by the TI software.

ended up using ZigStar and although it took multiple attempts it did flash eventually, make sure the device isnt right next to your laptop or computer as the signal might be interfering with the flashing process / connection.

@@andrewmcnulty0 Yes I had the same, after a quick search it seems the only way to flash the latest firmware is with the python script.
