So context is i live in Australia and play in NA at about 160ms (SEA barely lowers this btw cause im east coast)
What he didn't mention is that hit stun (or hit stagger as i call it) doesn't just happen for your aerial skills, its HUGELY impacts longer casting SA skills. When im playing Awk guardian and cast my Cleansing flame (Shift+F), if im being fired on by a ranger or two, it can DELAY the first hit of the skill by MORE than 50%. I have many, many examples of NW clips where my clenaisng flames entire cast animation takes more than 3x to finish. same with her god incinerator and its SUPER noticeable with her 100% BSR because its both a long SA and an airbourne skill.
You can test these yourself with like 2 friends hitting you, the hit number matters alot, on top of the issues' being mentioned here.
All I know is that when a ranger is hitting me, it feels like my character completely stops moving because of hit stagger. Very fun and interactive.
The reverse proxy channels (i.e. your connection from client to game server is routed differently) are B1, S3, S5, C1, C3, C5, M3, M5, VA3, VA5. These are the channels having the most issues with long periods of lag/desync at the moment. (this was back on kakao days) idk if it's still the samething now a days.
Why it looks instant on your screen is because it does prediction, it starts showing it on your screen while the server confirms it
I like blue, but him accepting this should be a thing isn't the right direction for the game especially for pvp, I found this out by grinding that some skill animations are going faster than sometimes. You are already fighting the ping difference, gear difference, we also got another variable which is the tick-rate that affects every single small details in the game
The whole point of the video was to show that no matter with high hit rate skills or low hit rate skills its not going to really fix anything when it comes to hit stutter/accel... When the real issues is servers and server tick rate.... them changing hit count is only going to bring a whole nother set of problems
Yup this whole video and a little more. This doesn’t even cover how your abilities and combos come out faster the higher your FPS and how your damage gets eaten if you frame drop. Quit the game 3 months ago after upgrading my PC and seeing how jarringly different it was. It’s been my main game for 7yrs but the ignorance and/or indifference from the devs around fixing the major issues in a timely manner really got to me as a lifeskilling PvPer.
I want to come back but I’m staying away atm to vote with my dollar and my statistic to hopefully show them that enough is enough and things need to change. All though after everything I’ve been apart of and seen in regards to how BDO was managed, I can confidently and solemnly say I’m never going to return. It really breaks my heart.
If I could only manage Pearl Abyss for a month...

this happens because the interactions between you and the other player happens at different actual time, and the server needs to make up for it

How in the fuck are you gonna get around real time ping and server update(tickrate) in ms times while there are multiple people on your screen with multiple information being sent and received. The server has to interpret multiple information in real time. If on your screen you are in and on the opponents screen you are not in , tell me which is correct. The servers gonna go with the latest information in the tickrate updates and if your is not received, good luck. Even higher tickrate won't get rid of it, look at CSGO just as Armin said. With 128 ticks there are instances where you will be "pulled back" mid animation because of misinformation between 2 clients and the server and it's only a 5v5 game. Everyone here is just complaining left-right and center while having shit pulled out of the ass. 30tickrate for an MMO that came out 10+ years ago is perfectly okay, especially because it isn't even competitive pvp.. The best you cold do is a LAN with a separate bdo server for competitive 3v3. But that's never gonna happen..
Aussies/ NZ playing at 210 ping and we just give up on worrying about this shit. The servers are bad for many reasons, and changing their location won't fix the underlying issues.
hit acceleration best explanation is cast bladespin(hotbar) then immediately go s+q "shuriken flight". Do that with the dummy and then do that without the dummy(target). and see for yourself
Hit acceleration is speeding up your animations in relation to what the server knows is happening, its basically lag. I have pvp with daynim so much he basically lived in the server with his location irl and I trust any and all information he has on server speed. I played with higher ping as a ninja and at the time I knew stuff was wrong with the engine with pvp.
yes, that air-born stutter occurs with my DK and air strike. Btw I tried counting frames with the speed of the skill. And there is like 8 frames difference.
I have been saying this in the Lahn community for a long time. Thing is, I have boiled it down to the Range of Server TPS on the likely hood the Hit Accel is to activate. On Lahn, if servers are below 8 TPS, it is very rare for it to activate, and its a 50/50 is TPS 10-15. Server health is critical for Activation. The lower the TPS, the lower your silver per hour. The only way to accurately measure TPS, recover Durability on a weapon with memory fragments. That shows the tick rate of the server. I have counted 3-5TPS at times in 2021 and 2022. TPS only changed Server to Server, not Channel to Channel. Grinding on a sub 10 TPS server actually drops my Silver per hour by nearly 40% and the performance feels as if I am being double slowed in PVP. It is horrendous, and for some reason, The Cluster of Servers PA uses for Kamasylvia, are the worst in the game. Central Servers with fast TPS are essential for the game. Once thing when he shows his iFrame, he isn't moving far because he is out of Stamina, that is how they all work. TPS does determine if you get Hit Accel or not. I can try a skill and if it stops early, I change the family of Servers I am during a relog.
If your silver per hour is dropping by almost 40% because of the server you aren’t earning much silver in the first place
Me who plays on EU from Australia "(chuckles) I'm in danger." I actually had a time when a red player wanted to fight me in a grind spot. I kindly said I don't wanna fight, he let me keep grinding away after I explained with my ping and delay his character would be back in heidel sipping a cup of tea before my Mystic even had time to hit the floor.
okay but i have other question which is why MORE FPS give you better CONNECTION, is it because more FPS shorter the sill so faster less time in TICK of the server that make it?
I wholeheartedly believe that there are far too many variables/factors that can negatively affect PvP. Just to name a few: ping, server issues, client-side issues, CC resistances/ignore resistance, DP/ACC/EVA, grab/ de-sync, debuffs, etc.
my comment got deleted in his video KEKW XD, but the problem in his video already exist in the game from the beginning, what pearl abyss try to aim in the latest dev commentary video is totally different from this problem, PA only try to reduce server load with reducing number of hits. Regarding this problem, PA already said this problem can't be fixed, if they try to force it, some classes will not work as intended.

20 tick servers, source engine from 2004, with 60 players on a tiny map.
BDO has incredible diversity, massive player amounts, and still manages a better engine/servers/tickrate. It blows my mind every day how far ahead this game is than one made by EA that grosses over 1 billion a year.
Tickrate is less important on MMOs than FPS games, BDO might be the exception given how high octane the gameplay is, but that would explain why CS has a better tickrate already, i would prefer to have other MMO's tickrates as example.
Also PA has announced they are reducing the number of hits to decrease the load on the server, not fixing hitstutter or whatever, the most effect it will have is in large scale hopefully improving stability

Well doesn't it feel like a great fucking priority to start a 300vs300 mode and blast all the economy onto that before tending to this problem from a dev perspective? Surely this foundational issue wouldn't be noticeable in a mode like that right? Like not even the slightest? Maybe if we get 900vs900 this problem magically goes away? I'm not even alittle bit sulky, no not at all. This issue is not even annoying in a pvp, fast paced combat game!!🎉🎉🎉
I have played gw2 for 5 years, moved on because my community got kinda stale (was part of the more sweaty gvg community, even leading as a second rl for a guild that was no1 in eu for half a year or something). bdo pvp feels like a huge downgrade to me (been at it for 1 year, so i'm a new player here), altough the mechanics, fighting style, combos, movement are fun, the fighting is so buggy, laggy, and really not nice. the visuals, the confusion, i can barely see what/where my enemies are (keep in mind i'm color blind altough, that shouldn't be an issue for a decent pvp game) and even if i do, i never know when someone will port into me and kill me out of nowhere so gotta stay protected even when there's no one in my face. it feels like the fighting is more about playing around the games flaws and predicting/trying to cancel weird behaviors rather than playing around your own decisions. I am specifically refering to nw and higher number content, aos feels kinda fun, altough i'm not a fan of any kind of rng.
You have to understand that BDO is not a competitive PVP game. RBF has been abandoned, netcode is wildly outdated, desync has been a problem for 8 years, RNG is baked into every aspect of combat, and PVP still doesn’t generate competitive income even if you’re constantly winning matches. Classes are “balanced” around a cooperative war environment and not around 1v1 or 3v3 matches. We can’t balance the grab mechanic, let alone 50+ specs for all of the game’s classes. PVP just isn’t the focus of this game.
The sooner you accept the PVP system for what it currently is, the easier it will become to enjoy BDO PVP.
@@DrSwazz yes and no, it seems like the game does get promoted for its pvp content, we did recently get the guild league system and cc's like blue praise the pvp system like it's the holy grail of mmo's (it really isn't, i've spent multiple years in other mmo's and never have i ever had to deal with such amount of bugs, desync's and weird interactions) and ye, we the players do need to see the issues so we can get a better game imo.

@@palbgw2 We don't need to "see the issues," we've been complaining about them for years. See Armin's vid on hit acceleration and why it isn't going to 100% fix performance/ping issues. Instead of working on desync, they're releasing P2W crystla restoration items. PA just wants to squeeze money out of any part of the game they can, and improving pvp isn't gonna make them money.
I mean, I also quite guild wars 2 and have super enjoyed BDOs PvP since then. But reason I left is because Anet REALLY hated the warrior class. Like damn, it never failed, whenever someone found a way to make warrior perform halfway okay at something, it was nerfed by next patch.
I honestly don't know if it's gotten any better for Warrior since then, but they butchered that class so hard that I stopped playing because it wasn't even fun anymore.
The zerker hop while being shot in the air literally stuns your character in the air before you can end and kills you.

It's an interesting take, but most of the "potential fixes" lacks the technical background knowledge and blindly points at tick and says "found the issue!"
Reducing hits will improve the smoothness of combat in general, but high ping will always be an issue.
Increasing tick-rate wont fix anything, it will only put more stress on the servers, be even more laggy in nodewars than it already is and the costs of running 128 tick is insanely high. No MMO runs with that high tick-rate. Only low player count per server games does. (higher tick rate = higher stress on servers for those that doesn't know)
Reducing the amount of hits per skills by a lot, based from hash example - Big W, reduces stress on servers and open up the opportunity for the server to actually breath without getting deepthroated with data exceeding its tick rate every fucking second (It's insane they havent done this earlier when the game got "faster").
For reference Apex Legends got 20 tick servers, Fortnite got 30. But they also dont have these insane APS numbers as BDO does and also doesn't contain as many players pr. server.

Idk why but this just sounds like making excuses for BDO to not improve the servers. There are still attacks that PvE enemies have that can knock back and stun and this problem would effect newer players and players who aren't hard geared more than others. It's just more frustrating when it's an issue in the competitive scene

Most new fps on release has low tick rate 30-45 because of high demand of players. And when they get there severs stable then they increase the tick rate up. The first month of the last Battlefield was horrible. Hit detection, other playes appear from corner, your angle you can see them, there angle they can't see you.

BDO doesn't need an excessively high tick rate because damage is calculated client side and transmit to the server and validated. So if you have a skill that hits 50 times you don't need to transmit the data for each hit. It's calculated client side and you only send one update with the final damage....

I don't think anyone truly knows just how impactful lowering hit rate is going to be so all we can do is just wait and see. At least it is a step in the right direction though.

You can not compare FPS competitive shooter to an MMO Server tick rate. Higher tick rate is very very pricey. MMOs do not need 64 tick rate servers. be nice if we did. but I do not know of any MMO that has a 64 tick rate servers.
Comparing a huge mmo to fps in terms of tick rate doesn't really make sense to me either. Infact csgo actually reduced tickrate on servers a while ago... i remember there was alot of drama

This stupid talk about tick rate is baffling to say the least, Apex legends thats has insane competitive price pools always played on 20tick rate and has pretty good hit reg. This is a good video however tickrate is such a stupid topic since you can have insane tickrate but if the net code is bad (like in this case) the tickrate does literally not matter.
