Now the mechanics and the physics that go into these storms are completely different but when it comes to what it looks like at ground level, I’m going to agree with this feeling like a low end cat1 hurricane, since they do have winds of 74mph plus with tropical downpours. This video corresponds with that in terms of how it looks like I said.

Softball sized hail was flying through my house. Poor cats were terrified. It took out all eight windows on our house, our roof and totaled three cars. And we weren’t anywhere near the hardest hit. Regarding that poor tree people are commenting on, that’s what happens when you “pretty prune” trees. No lower limbs and all cute and fluffy at the top. Left to grow naturally, trees limbs form in ways designed to withstand the weather. Trees are natural windbreakers. As they grow, the young limbs are weathered by the winds and slowly strengthened to withstand it. They also grow in a formation which handles the winds better, cycling thru the lower and upper limbs. Pretty pruning destroys that structure and weakens them. I am saddened as I see more and more trees pruned in this manner, most predominantly in commercial parking lots. I’m seeing more and more pretty pruning in residential areas, parks, and home properties. Just setting them up for failure. I realize high winds like those in this storm are damaging in and of themselves. Most trees that break or fall in high winds are damaged and/or sick in some way, though. And those trees that naturally have shallow root systems. Or pine trees, with one long tap root. But I digress. Oh, if you watch this guy’s other video of the aftermath, you will notice most of the broken limbs are around those with the pretty pruning. You can see other trees with lower limbs and branches that don’t appear to have any fall out.

I live in East Dallas and we got it. I’ve never seen anything like that and I’ve lived here all my life. It was something out of a movie. I thought it was a water twister or a tornado. I had several big heavy plants under my patio. They were all taken out from under and flipped upside down and the pots were rolling around the yard from the strong wind. We still have several big trees and limbs on the streets in our area that haven’t been cleared out. Thank goodness we are all fine in our neighborhood.

@@nevaehsmiracleconnieelliot2297 Come to think of it, my conception of a microburst probably comes from the "micro" part, which makes it sound like it lasts a short time, but the "micro" actually indicates that it's a small area of the total storm. It can probably last as long as, say, a tornado probably?

The Dallas Fort Worth metroplex has a population of 7.5 million and when the storm came through there was only one fatality.
