Well, technically he didn't make $800K. He left in early 2022 which means the restricted stock grants he received in 2020 and 2021 (his peak years) were mostly unvested. By leaving early, he lost those shares and money.
Very misleading to say that this is not doable today. The top 10% of software engineers are making over $400k still today according to BLS statistics & any other unbiased source.
Someone explain to me this amount of money which vests over 4 years.😂. In my country i haven't seen it, tried reading but didn't get it. Im on a SWE job hunt now amd that could be useful info to me. Thanks😢
Ehh not really replaced. Cognition AI needed the shock value and hype to hoist up their own company; thus, they came out with an “artificially intelligent software engineer”. I can smell the BS a mile away. It’s definitely impressive, but NOWHERE NEAR on the level of human SWEs.
American salaries overall are crazy not just Silicon Valley. On average, they pay about double the UK/Canada, and Australia averages from my analysis. Although you have to look into which cities and companies pay these top salaries of which there are plenty

well, its not possible to get close to 800k mate, you have to be a companies CTO or CEO to get there. what are you even talking about?
Not true. Look at levels.fyi and you'll see the highest level software engineers can make that.
