    I was very critical of this kit the other day. I get frustrated easily. Now I have the body painted and am almost done and its a fun kit. But its old and the instructions can be vague as to where you put the parts. So match them up before gluing them. Take your time.

  • @brianlewis6926

    I've owned several 55 Chevys in my life, my first car was one.
    I always thought the first issue was the one with the pink custom
    You can take the gasser parts from the AMT nomad kit and they fit right on, the share the same chassis platform. The newer release has a paint divider on the decals sheet
    I'm the same way, that drives me crazy, and when they chrome just the top rain gutter, and when they leave the front bumper off and don't trim down the front bumper filler.
    And when they call a sedan a post

  • @dustymojave

    I got my 1st edition 55 in the early 90s too. Also worked at a LHS then. My brother has a 55. A couple things about the kit that bugged me were mentioned in this video. The molded in exhaust (AMT rolled back 30 years on that feature! But hell, Revell's early 60s release of their 55 Chevy didn't have molded in exhaust) and the front fender spears (not "spires", fyi). Also bugged by the front valence. What is that supposed to be? A road racer air dam? But very easy to fix and a MUST fix for any no front bumper 55 drag car. I suspect you know about the features of the Revell 55 as the intro to this video is a Revell. The opening doors tell that. I was stoked at the intro that it was a post sedan, not a hardtop. And by 1965 I knew full well that racer guys including street racers preferred post sedans over heavier hardtop. I was only 10 then. Re the 2-tone trim... in 1969, my dad and I swapped a 350 crate motor and Muncie 4 speed into a family friend's 55 post. It was 2-tone coral with metallic gray upper. The paint line was vrertical under the tail light. No little piece of trim on the fenders. Neither of those 55s, and most I've seen did not have the front fender spears.

    I built this kit several years ago. The only major problem I had was the interior. It absolutely positively did not fit. I blacked out all the windows and completely ditched the interior. Still turned out nice.

    I thought I was the only person who ever noticed this! Along with adding 1mm of width to each side of the hood and narrowing the taillight surrounds so they fit the rear fenders rather than sticking out, straightening the front frame rails so they fit the cutouts in the front pan, cutting out the moulded in back seat… I must have removed at least five of those exhausts over the years. Someone did offer a resin chassis that had no exhaust.

    The '55 has always been my favorite of the Tri's. I haven't built one in a lot of years (but have at least a couple in my stash), but I always just shaved that completely off (and added a little shaved down sprue for that little trim separating the 2 tone) on mine if I remember 🤔 Looking forward to seeing if you ever get back on that drag version 😁 Happy weekend, brother 😊✌️

    Old video post but I'll take the bait anyway. Many 1955 Bel Airs had the chrome run into the door. Hard tops, sedans and convertibles. Other (cheaper?) Chevrolet models stopped on the front fender. What am I missing?

  • @gordonenquist36
    @gordonenquist36 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Luka, while you are at it, let us look at a detail 99% of the '59 Cadillac kit builders mess up on. That little square patch of chrome just behind the outer headlight ring on the front fenders. Monogram /Revell cast this patch with the rest of the bumper,grill,headlights part. Check out photos of the real '59 car, not hard to find and see what I mean. An amendment to the molds or instructions would be nice, just sayin'.

    Mine doesn't have that mould line on it. It has separate chrome strips but I have no intention of using that moulding on mine. This is the Hot Rod magazine version. You can use super glue to build up small lines that are missing. I also use it to replace shorts in the plastic or building shapes. It's easier that using a styrene strip and it's more permanent. Just tape off the surrounding area to make this clean so that you can make the most of your time detailing.

    Being a 55 Chevy owner of many years and a year head for over 50 years, I already knew this. There is a difference between 150 210 and Bel-Air. It all depends which you want to build. I've also made paint dividers from resin. Maybe I should sell sets on eBay? By the way. The part is called spears on the fenders as listed in the parts section of classic Chevy international

    It also seems most people who decide to leave off the front bumper forget to "thin down" the front splash pan, leaving it way too thick.
