Yes i also concur When it comes to senior government officials, once they're caught & brought before the courts they always seem to become incapacitated, amnesia, have vision problems & financially strapped ! I'm from Trinidad & Tobago in the caribbean & we experience that very samething here...

Nigerian Court Martial has always remained a joke of the highest order. I don't know this convicted general but the court martial is as corrupt as anything. What goes on there is simply power struggle that aims always at de-ranking or demotion or disgrace of officers with brighter future. Worse of it is that, this struggle goes as low as to fighting junior officers with great future.
I think these court martial must restructure on the foundations of human dignity, integrity, impartiality, truthfulness and fairness.

In May 1966, General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, Nigeria’s first military head of state promulgated the infamous Decree No. 34 of 1966, the “unification decree.” The decree effectively did away with the federal system of government practised by Nigeria since its independence from British colonial rule in 1960. In its place, the general instituted a unitary system of government as a way of discouraging “tribal loyalties and activities which promote tribal consciousness and sectional interests and which must give way to the urgent task of national reconstruction.” The decree suspended aspects of the Nigerian constitution and, with it, the military government arrogated to itself wide discretionary powers. Unknown to the general, the effects of this decree would reverberate well into Nigeria’s sixtieth year as an independent nation.
      .

A big shame to Lt. General Lamidi Adeosun for all this nonsense sentence. Lt. General Lamidi Adeosun is the worse soldier of out time, a pot calling the cattle black. Yoruba will never learn their lesson. Yes, if General, Hakeem Otiki is a Fulani General he will not be found guilty of any offence. The most corrupt Army Officer of the entire World today is Lt. Tukur Yusuf Buratai of Nigeria. The financial scandal and atrocities committed by Lt. Tukur Yusuf Buratai should be investigated and he should be demoted and dismissed from Nigeria Army as well.

Why not work hard till the last of my breath
for a betterment of my only one country? There's a polite saying that 'there's no place like home! So don't be destroying your beloved and only home, remember! now it's 21st century, the world is at competition, Do not dishonour your country and your self because nobody wants to be defeated in this life.

Well, from the way you sound, Bashir, you are a man of conscience and honour but unfortunately, most of your kinsmen who control the real power in the country are the exact opposite! I hope you find a way to get your message of propriety accross to them in the corridors of power and the brainwashed, uninformed grassroots who always hail them irrespective of their shortcomings. I know nobody is perfect, north, south, east and west but I'm talking about those who wield real power ( the president and his closest henchmen) whose words and actions matter the most!!

Yes, perhaps he is guilty as charged, so are most military officers both active and retired. Why was the tribunal able to arrest, try and convict him, whereas politicians, all the way from local government officials to the senate are able to go about their daily lives with impunity?

Gen Otiki was recommended for demotion and dismissal bec he contravened Service Orders in handling of Divisional Finances. I do not think the money he was ferrying by road with those other ranks was approved for such transportation. However for Gen Lamidi to continue in the panel after Otiki protested his membership of the board was wrong as it breached Fair Hearing.
