Despite what the interviewer says, a misquote isn't "really, badly wrong" as long as it doesn't subvert the original meaning. "I don't care what you think, I'm going to tell you" would be a bad misquote.
Ian was magnificent as francis. He would have been great in game of thrones
Especially as Tywin Lannister, but Charles Dance was also brilliant...
You mentioned how great he would have been on "Game of Thrones", just made me realize how sad it is that we lost this great man much too soon.
Kevin was great in The Game....the fly in the ointment was, Kevin wasn't acting.

Wonderful actor, love the way he changes from his own impeccable diction to the character voice of someone he met, that's acting and it brings the whole conversation alive, and the hostess here obviously loved it too!
A superb actor and, by all accounts, a delightful person.

Have really enjoyed Hound of the Baskervilles and The Sign of the Four with Richardson as Holmes. Looking forward to watching more of Murder Rooms (Richardson as Dr. Joseph Bell/aka Holmes archetype). RIP to a great actor and an ostensibly proper gentleman (tfw Yank with Irish pedigree in Southern California).

I was introduced to Ian in the movie "B.A.P.S.". Found this interview and fell in love with him as Urquhart
Damn. If only he'd lived long enough to play in "Harry Potter." Imagine Voldemort as portrayed by Francis fucking Urquhart.
I came across someone on Tumblr saying Richardson would've made a wonderful Lucius Malfoy as well. He might've been a bit too old to play Lucius, but I can totally see him in that role. Richardson's Lucius, I imagine, would've been a lot slimier than Jason Isaacs' portrayal, and that might've made him all the more sinister.
I wonder what he would have thought of Kevin Spacey as Underwood.

I am sure he would have been quite polite and expressed some manner of well-worded approval but, underneath that polite veneer, you would have caught some contempt for his crass, ill mannered American cousin.

I don't like judging people based on interviews.
It's easy for a jerk to pretend to be a nice person, in an interview.
But, I will say, Ian Richardson comes across, VERY positively in the two interviews I have heard with him.
Bright, charming, funny, self-deprecating and generous to others.
He probably beat puppies in his spare time or something 😉
