In fact, he is still training himself in his way, such as the 200kg barrel lifing 2 hours on a daily basis. And his sholders and hip joints are extremely flexible, his father noticed it and that's how he was able to take advantage of the flexibility and strength of his unique body.

However, there is something to be said about a guy who was hitting more HRs than entire teams like Babe did, but you could also look at that as a lower level of skill in that era. These are all factors that allow players today to play longer and better. .o
In all the times I ever thought "wouldn't it be cool if there was a great pitcher who could actually hit", I was picturing a guy with hitting numbers that were good in general, but only amazing by pitcher standards. I never even bothered to fantasize about someone like Shohei, because that would be too unrealistic. Nothing remotely like this is supposed to happen
Yes, there have been some good-hitting pitchers. But what Shohei has done, it's like he made the impossible possible. I've never seen a home run leader also be among league leaders in strikeouts as a pitcher.

Single handedly carrying his team into playoff contention day after day. Even though they're on the outside looking in they stand a chance if he can maintain his insane level of play. His teammates must elevate their play if they are to make it. Ohtani definitely is deserving of all the good things headed his way.

My theory is he doesn’t do it so he can just focus on hitting. He turns his front foot slightly before the pitch to generate the same leverage without lifting his front foot, thus eliminating the effort of timing. Just my theory though lol
Nope. Ohtani used to have a high leg kick in Japan. That all changed in spring training in 2018. He performed awful initially when he came to the US, so he adapted the no kick stance from Albert Pujols. Rest is history. This is very famous in Japan, that he changed his stance. I guess not so much in the US.

It's been an awesome month. Seems like every day my youtube suggestions show Ohtani hitting another HR. It was actually every other day, but that's crazy, he averaged hitting a homer every 6-7 at bats for the entire month.
He didn't win a single weekly or monthly award last season. They gave it to the guy with the highest OPS while completely ignoring Ohtani's pitching stats. Writers don't care about him doing unbelievable and unrepeatable things, just look at last year's MVP voting where he only got 2(!!!)votes for 1st place. Luckily in the future he will be regarded as one of the greatest athletes of all times and those writers will be long forgotten.
Judge hitting 62 is great but I really don't think it beats out what Shohei did even last year. Judge is one guy in right field. He did provide enough for two but Shohei provided enough value for two hitters and almost 2 pitchers. How are the writers not seeing this? They care too much about their old man counting stats or breaking arbitrary home run records. I'm not trying to disrespect Judge or the season he had. He definitely deserves an MVP but I think he deserves 2017 more than he did last years.
