Yeah, I think Lor was talking specifically about standard sweet lolita even though she didn’t explicitly specify it. I would love to see more cool edgy shoes paired with gothic and punk coords:D
definitely. i’ve seen them look okay with fairy kei, decora kei, or like punk styles as well. however with classy victorian styles like lolita, it looks so strange 😭
I feel like gatekeeping in lolita is often misidentified by non lolitas. Gatekeeping is FOR SURE real. Every now and then I'll come across some disgusting racism, fatphobia, etc. The community definitely has been getting a lot more accepting recently, which is amazing! But obviously those awful comments still happen. However, non lolitas often call things gatekeeping when they're NOWHERE similar to these actual problems. They'll buy a sexy maid dress or something and call it lolita, then if people say it's not, they call all lolitas rude elitist gatekeepers. I definitely don't condone bullying and want to make sure beginners have the resources they need, but it can be really annoying to have someone compare wearing some amazon cosplay to actual serious problems this community has with gatekeeping.
Gatekeeping is a good thing. Obviously not letting people in based on race is not cool, but... without some gatekeeping then anything is lolita. If it can be anything then it's nothing. More communities need to value gatekeeping in order to avoid self destruction.
@@NightTimeDay I disagree, the Lolita movement started out as a way to break out against social norms. to impose even stricter rules on the fashion style would be missing the point of lolita.
I agree that Demonias look really off in most substyles of Lolita, especially sweet. BUT, I think they look great if worked well into a gothic or punk coord. Gothic fashion is what they originated from anyway.
@@RinakaChan yes exactly, i came to say this. I have demonia brand boots that look a lot like things lolita brands have put out (victorian inspired heeled boots). and also the stompy kind that people i think mean when they say demonia also totally work with goth coords
Totally agree - demonias come in different styles that go with different styles of lolita. Personally I don’t wear my demonias with my lolita because they don’t go together, but some peoples might!
@@cinnamorollsmom I was considering getting those! And I've definitely seen other gothic lolitas wearing them too, like people who have been in the fashion a while.
As an Asian living in Asia, Qi and Wa Lolita should be able to be worn by anyone. We like people appreciating things that reflect our cultural elements. As long as no one's being inapprorpiate or intending to ridicule, by all means do wear it.
I always figured, if they're not based off of things worn for very special events or only by certain people in the culture and therefore very culturally significant, then it would be alright especially if you understand the basics of what the style is based from.
as a chinese person, I think anyone can wear wa or qi (pronounced like chee, not key) lolita as long as they're respectful towards the culture and not wear it in a "haha this is asian weeaboo clothes" sort of way 🤠👍 as for gatekeeping, I think normies/people who don't actually wear lolita fashion, they might think we're gatekeeping when it's just that lolita fashion has many 'rules', like keeping the silhouette and keeping a coord balanced. they might also see a frilly maid costume and not realise that lolita fashion pieces have much better construction 🤔
as another chinese person id like to add that personally i think it'd be best that if in these styles you preface that you're not asian as to avoid claims of asianfishing, since most times people accuse others of this due to them looking more racially ambiguous when they are indeed white
I'm a bittersweet lolita, so a bit of a disconnected substyle in the first place. I think demonias could work, but I'm someone who likes contrast. I'm sure someone out there rocks it! PS seeing your awesome blouse makes me want to make an iridescent organza blouse of my own! Maybe even an oversized button down or a peignoir.
For me, I think it depends on the length of the dress and shoes. If you're wearing the super long boots, I think it'd look cool with a shorter dress to balance it out
@@smegellimes I think black is more than often associated with being "cool" and "sexy" instead of sweet. With bitter sweet there is a clash of high saturation light color with the black, and there is where the "disconnection" happen I think
We should have asked if bittersweet is existing because I got a lot of comments like "It's not a think" whereas I think bittersweet exists because... we exist hahaha
On the demonias: I'd recommend looking through the whole catalog of demonias. I understand that if you're just thinking of the styles that are the most popular right now, they don't fit, but they have so many loliable shoes (they literally sell rocking horses). But also, while the more popular styles seem a bit off with sweet lolita, they have a lot for Gothic and they're kind of perfect for punk lolita :)
100% this!! I’m an ouji and my Charade 110s are EVERYTHING to me. I love them so much. Some pairs straight up look like shoes Mana wears 💙 I saw the fluffy pairs that got popular recently a lot in Cult Party kei a lot a few years back, I feel like the new pastel colours or white could look so cute in sweet lolita, maybe with a dress with faux fur like some of the AP winter releases
Demonia has kitty face mary janes and flats, along with platform and T-strap mary janes with heels. theyre sooo cute with lolita coords if you dont want to look too short or don't like the staple lolita shoes. Either way, knee high demonias aren't as terrible as wearing Pleaser shoes (stripper & burlesque shoes) lol!!!
I think some styles of demonia work with old school lolita, gothic lolita and punk lolita. The gothika-09 and Dolly-01 styles are popular with old school lolita and look identical to some of the commonly worn shoe styles of the era. Lor, I think you may have just been looking at demonias from a contemporary sweet lolita perspective. TBH I haven't seen any demonias that I think would go well with contemporary sweet.
@@alice-8566 I can imagine that someone made it work combining contemporary sweet with demonias, it would probably not be a cookie cutter look though but that's fine too.
I feel like people tend to forget that demonias have so many kinds of shoes, I feel like a lot of the Mary Jane kinda styles they put out would be nice for sweet lolita. They also have a couple pink ones I have in mind that I feel like would be cute. Idk I know you're not saying this in your comment, so this isn't like directed towards you I'm just tired of people like being uneducated and generalizing something like this (not just demonias, but people in the community tend to view platforms in this sorta style like this in general) because I think viewing an entire brand or style of shoe and saying it "wouldn't fit in sweet lolita" is both limiting and also silly. There's a million styles of platforms that would fit in this style you just need to find them
@@HolisticCupid A lot of people simply don't know because they've never checked. A lot of people who are fairly new to the fashion see how easy it is to buy from shoe brands that specifically cater to lolitas, and who offer shoes in nearly every color and size, that they don't look outside of these brands. People with larger shoe sizes or who were there before what I shall refer to as the taobao boom are more likely to know about non-lolita-specific alt brands that sell lolita appropriate shoes. As for demonias and contemporary sweet lolita; according to a local website Demonia has 485 styles for sale (that's a lot of shoes) and I did browse them all not so long ago. There were non that I noticed that would fit as a cookie cutter contemporary sweet shoe imo but if you're going for something a little less cookie cutter they do have some.
I just released a sweet ouji coord and everyone that contacted me wanted plus size. The only reason plus sizes weren't included immediately is because I was worried nobody would even want the outfit and it takes an extra year of study to learn how to scale patterns for plus size as the body shape and proportions change around 12ish and it's just really hard to figure out. Almost there, hoping to be very inclusive, just trying to fit that in with kids and school and my business is rough. Bigger brands can absolutely afford to outsource their pattern grading or hire a grader though, which I will absolutely do as soon as I can afford to :) idk if that cleared anything up?
I feel this pressure on small brands to include each and everyone is really harmful. I sew myself and currently would only be able to cater so S and M sizes simply because I am experienced with these sizes and have the patterns. As you said, big brands should think about including as many sizes as possible and monetarily efficient but please dont expect that from oncoming businesses
@@oliveoconnor5589 relating so much with this, I've only made things for myself and looking into commission type work, and I feel bad being non-inclusive about sizing outside my range but I just don't have the skills to back me up yet 😭 I've looked into it a bit and seems bigger sizes also tend to vary more and won't always work with single body block. I understand it can be tricky for brands when attempting to make a size inclusive pattern to be suitable to all, and there's a reason most size-inclusive brands do custom measurements instead of off-the-rack stuff, so it's not just down to grading patterns one time necessarily 🤔
@@SwimmingInSunlight the best thing I'm finding to do is get their measurements, find patterns that correspond to those measurements, lay them atop each other, and connect the dots between the bust, waist, and hips. Using a light table helps. Still kinda hard and has to be made to order and you should definitely do the mockup before using your good fabric
I really love the way demonias look with lolita! It does take a little finagling to get right I think, but one of the first coords I ever saw was a sweet coord with black accents and black demonia platforms, and I’ve loved the look ever since.
I've seen some beautiful non-Asian lolitas wear qi lolita and it looks great either way. I'm Southeast Asian and honestly I love it whenever people want to wear our traditional clothing. As long as the wearer respects the cultural aspect of a piece of clothing, I couldn't care less whether or not non-POCs wear cultural clothing because culture is meant to be shared.
I mean. If non Asian people weren't allowed to wear it, Asian people shouldn't be allowed to wear Lolita or wa and qi Lolita either. Since lolita fashion is basically historical European dress shortened and extra cutified. And qi and wa Lolita are a mix of a historical European silhouette and historical Asian dress. It's really ridiculous. Unless someone is doing it to mock people it really isn't anything but cultural exchange.
@@Givebackthescarf "some of us have no desire of seeing you in it until ourselves can wear it" bro who do you think you are. Literally cannot believe you typed this out and decided to post it-
I wasn't sure how to feel about the YRU shoes but my friend wore the strawberry ones with a whole strawberry coordinate and I was obsessed. I def thing you need to be careful with the styling to make them work well.
So I have some lolita pieces (just a preference thing to go more casual) and have to wear them with running shoes thanks to my ankle injuries. But it's really fun thinking up ways to cover/enhance the shoes, from ruffles to lace anklets to shoe clips! It's definitely an ongoing project, but one of my small 2022 goals is to figure out some options that will survive Seattle mud/rain and rock them when it's safe to do so!
You might want to look into shoemaking, not to make your own shoes, but because they often discuss decorative elements. More specifically, there's a channel on TH-cam that has videos on orthopedic bespoke shoes and there's a video on design elements that might interest you.
@@biguattipoptropica You know, I have looked into shoemaking, but I don't think I've seen this person's channel so I'll totally have to check them out! Thanks! (In my case I have hEDS so it's a whole lot of 'let's see what works this week.' Doesn't mean we can't try more things!)
One of my biggest pet peeves is how waistlines sit on me in lolita. I'm tired of everything high waisted sitting on my chest. I'm tired of normal waisted dresses being directly under my bust. I just want to have a natural waist line man >.
When I was still following the brand update pages it made me so sad to see the majority of dresses had waists higher than the actual "just waist". Disliking raised waists is probably one of the reasons why I like skirt+blouse/cutsew combinations so much.
@Maria Puchała I have the deadly combo of a super short torso and a very large chest, so not only do waists sit really high on me to begin with, but they ride up like nobody's business because of the bust. Ironically, high waists look GREAT with this combo - if the high waist is on the skirt. High-waisted bodices look awful because it destroys the fit.
I highly encourage Lolita’s to try Qi Lolita. I can’t speak for Wa Lolita but Qi Lolita is inspired off of the Qi Pao. Which actually isn’t as “traditional” as one might think. The dress was created on the 1920’s in Shanghai and was meant to be an alternative to the restrictive clothing that woman had to wear Qing Dynasty. Once this Dynasty fell working woman wanted something that had less layers and wasn’t restrictive. Tailors in Shanghai created the Qi Pao off of dresses from the west that were shown in fashion magazines. So the dress originated from cultural appreciation and a mixing of cultures! It also has no deep religious or cultural significance and many Chinese people love it when people wear Qi-Pao!
Gatekeeping discussion is so overdone at this point, we should finally move on to way bigger problems in lolita community like ableism and US-centrism. Like i know it's probably harsh but we shouldn't bother this much with potenial lolitas and focus on actual ones that faces many problems to be yet disscued on same level as gatekeeping that is not even that bad. Fact that in 2022 we still argue whatever people "should be allowed" to wear comfy shoes with lolita is good prove that we have bigger problem than non-lolitas feeling gatekept.
What are people saying about comfortable shoes? Is it the same old dead horse again or did something new happen? Being able to walk well should take priority over style imo, and that does sometimes mean style is sacrificed if that person cannot find comfortable lolita appropriate shoes or if they cannot make lolita appropriate shoes comfortable (inserts, stretching shoes, removing the extra footbed for extra room, etc). I'm sure it has happened that someone gave criticism to someone who had no other option than to wear orthopaedic shoes. I haven't seen that happen though. Some people don't try though and a lot of lolitas think that's annoying which I think is understandable. I also think that other lolitas don't owe it to the community to have perfect coords or to try to strive for that, so even if we're annoyed we should be able to scroll past it.
As a Middle European person, who has a couple of hanfus and qipaos and who loves wearing them: I think you can totally wear Qi and Wa Lolita. People will stare anyway (I got more stares wearing qipaos in China because of being a foreigner wearing Chinese clothing than wearing Chinese dresses in my home country. But my Chinese friends always said those clothes look good on me, so.. Just do what you like :) )
Its mostly americans who are against it. I mean yeah i get it their culture was probably made fun of growing up, but people from the actual country love seeing their culture get recognised. So it really depends on who you ask...
i wear the maryjane style demonia’s & I think they work super well!! (and they’re so comfy & easy to walk in) but i wear old school & i think the big chonky, almost detached shoe fits the old school vibe really well!
I guess demonias I've never seen as too odd due to decades of being used to seeing Mana run around in platforms, but my default lolita style is goth, so sorta different vibes going on than sweet.
As a “Lolita at heart” I would never even attempt to critique or comment on someone’s coord, other than compliments. I love to draw Lolita fashion, because the patterns and prints are just so wonderful!
Point by point (hopefully) calmly disagreeing 1. "demonias" arent just one pair of shoes. its a whole brand that has a fair bit of variety to it imo. I can certainly understand how the pictured style of boots might not go with, say, a typical sweet coord, but they might go well with punk lolita or some other substyle. doug dimmadome joke was good though 2. I dont actually really disagree with thinking that cat's tea party is overrated however i do disagree that its a spicy opinion. more of a mild take imo 3. there isnt a lot of like "no you cant wear lolita you're too xyz" gatekeeping but there sure is plenty of homophobia, racism, transphobia, and ableism. especially transmisogyny.
Not really about the video... But thank you so much for inspiring me to take on my lolita fashion dreams. I finally bought my very first dress from Devilinspired bc of you!!! Without you I would have made every mistake in the book. Trust me.... I got so close to buying a lolita dress from Amazon without knowing any better... 😬😬 Anyways, whether you read this or not I thought I'd say it. Thank you so much, Lor, for giving me both insight and confidence.
Her channel, and her fans, also gave me the confidence to buy lolita!! She’s really changing the community :) I got a lucky pack so I didn’t need to get socks and accessories and a blouse and a dress all separately from GlitzyWonderland. Been three months and it’s finally been sent out (I love living in Australia trying to buy lolita totally not infuriating at all). I just need to see the dress so I can get a petticoat for it, and then I can finally wear it haha. This community she’s created is so supportive, and I hope she inspires so many other people too. I hope the dress is as beautiful as you hoped and I bet you’ll look gorgeous in it!
Lor please give us more spicy takes it’s refreshing to hear your honest less filtered opinions, maybe not all the time but once a month every few months? My regular wardrobe is gothic and I have a bunch of chunky boots people would associate with demonia’s, I think they can work quite well with Gothic Lolita but are harder to get a balanced co-ord with. Funnily enough my actual Demonia’s are super dainty and elegant so they go perfectly with Lolita, not all Demonia’s are big chunky bois.
oh i definitely have a sense of style outside of lolita - fashion as a whole is my biggest hobby, so i have a lolita section of my closet, a cute pastel/bright nonlolita section, and i'm currently building up a goth section. with that said, i also spend most of my time in sweats because fashion takes too much energy lol
I LOVE Demonia boots with Lolita! For me, it's the contrast. I love the look of cute, soft dresses with edgy platform boots & a spiked collar. It's combining both my fav styles into one "vibe". I also do wear those looks separately as well, but together, there's just something perfect about it, at least for me.
I'm here!!! (Fashionably late) The Number 1 Demonia Defender!!! So, luxury fashion is a special interest of mine and one of the most important ingredients for making a garment or outfit interesting is through contrast. Contrast in colour, texture, shape and also sometimes vibe. Sometimes an outfit being too predictable makes it blur together and sometimes I feel like more of the "acceptable" Lolita shoes blend into the outfit rather than adding to it. If that's what you're going for then perfect! But I like when fashion is unexpected - when it's more daring. Demonias can bring some of that unpredictable punch while still feeling balanced if coloured and accessorised thoughtfully. Poofy skirts and big head accessories can make a coord feel top heavy, especially for someone like me who is extremely short, has a large chest and shoulder area, and a big ol' afro on their head. Chunky, platform shoes can offer me some needed height and can help balance my squatter proportions as when I wear flats in Lolita I look even shorter than I am
Interestingly, I find that the people that have the most issue with someone wearing Ki and Wa lolita are not people from Chinese or Japanese backgrounds. I've been told over and over again that many Asian cultures find it flattering seeing people take interest in their culture-so long as it isn't in a cringy, fetishizing, or rude manner. (Also, so long as the foreigner isn't claiming the culture as their own.) Of course, the opinion changes from person to person, but that is what I've found over the years.
My big lolita Hot Take(tm) is that the community got so scarred and burned by all the "haha wow isn't that a fetish? you mean like the book?" treatment from people outside the community, that a huge swathe of the community swung too far the other way straight into sex negativity and slut-shaming. I have seen some astonishingly bad behaviour around this.
Where did you see this? I'm curious about the circumstances/context because the outfits themselves (with the exception of ero lolita, which isn't really that revealing anyway) aren't sexual or fetish-y, nor are the online community spaces themselves, so I don't know how that would end in slut shaming. Unless someone broke community rules, but criticising that also doesn't have to be slut shaming.. I'm seriously confused.
@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 So I think you might have conflated the two portions of my statement, which were "people outside the community often accuse/assume lolita to be a fetish thing" and "people within the community got so hyper-defensive about these accusations that they swung too far the other way". It has been a problem for lolita fashion from pretty much the beginning that people outside the community hear "lolita" and instantly their minds jump to Nabokov's novel of the same name, despite there being absolutely no relation. Between surface-level knowledge of the book's plot, and the fact that lolita is easily described as "childlike" in its aesthetics, non-community members assume the worst about the fashion. Because of this, lolitas - both individually and as a community - have had to spend a LOT of time explaining to people "no it's not a fetish, it's a fashion style just like punk or goth or anything else, and it's DEFINITELY not about child predators jesus christ". This is a completely understandable thing to get distressed about. I've had to have this argument literally two weeks ago. However, this constant situation of having to be on the defensive, having to be ready for people to assume horrible things about you, has lead to people getting... pre-emptive, shall we say. Many people in the community will grab their pitchforks if someone mentions anything even remotely "sexual" in the context of lolita. I've seen people get crucified for wearing a spiked collar with their punk co-ords because OMG THAT'S A KINK THING HOW DARE YOU. This isn't something you can really provide direct links to because it's both insular and can very often be subtle. I've seen some pretty Big Name Lolitas (in the English-speaking sphere, of course, I can't speak at all for the Japanese community) be very nasty regarding this. I know this was an overly-long reply, but it's a situation with a lot of nuance to it with a few contributing factors.
@@PepsiObsessi Online lolita spaces aren't sex talk friendly and kink friendly anyway, so I don't know where OP gets the sex negativity and slut shaming idea from when kink and sex aren't appropriate topics of discussion anyway. I'm eagerly waiting for Electrosa to supply some examples of situations of slut shaming and sex negativity in the lolita community.
@@Electrosa first of all yes that is an overly-long reply for one of the biggest common denominators of being a lolita especially on a video by a channel that brings it up probably at least every six months. I wasn’t confused about anything. Sexualizing lolita at all is weird in the first place, calling people who are upset when it’s sexualized “sex-negative” is weirder- if an individual lolita is fine with it whatever, but strangers in or out of the community being obnoxious at best and creepy or harassing at worst to somebody because of what they’re wearing, surprise, is not. I wouldn’t want a stranger assuming or implying or approaching me to talk about sex it at all in any other clothes, much less when I’m dressed like that. I’ve been into lolita for over half my life now and I’ve never seen “slut-shaming” when it comes to this, only people putting up boundaries and being upset when they aren’t respected or rightfully angry when they’re outright accused of being fetishistic, regressive for women, or even pedophillic. This isn’t hard, or misogyny, or “sex-negative”. It is normal.
It's really funny how you opened the video with your opinion on Demonia's platforms (which is a valid opinion to have, btw), when I've been meaning to get a pair for ages now. I think they can work in lolita specifically *because* of the contrast between the chunky platform and delicate frills. They look particularly cute with oldschool for the same reasons RHS do, but I've seen a few people coord their pink platforms with 2010 era sweet lolita and they look fantastic there too.
Demonia shoes can be nearly identical to some Lolita shoes from early 2000s so i dont see why they would not go together with gothic/punk or oldschool coordinate. i have a few pairs myself and i love them. sure, they would be more difficult to match with sweet coord but we are talking about Lolita fashion in general and not just sweet Lolita.
I bought a pair of black shiny mary jane platform shoes to go with a moitie jsk and other gothic dresses. I have a large foot and demonia was able to accomodate my size. Also, walking in rocking horse shoes hasnt been safe for my ankles in the past so the "clunky shoe" look worked fine by substituting the demonia MJ's. :) Im not a sweet lolita, so honestly I dont have an opinion on how pink demonias could or couldnt work. 😀
I don't wear lolita myself, though I have a friend who does and I've personally really liked the style for some time and would like to try it at some point. Regarding the first opinion about the Demonias...rather than disagreeing with you I just hate the way you worded it? I think if you did just pure sweet lolita with no punk or other style additions to it it would look a bit odd but I feel like with sweet lolita you could potentially style it in a way that works, and it doesn't look disjointed with all styles imo. About gatekeeping, I feel the same but I'd add that gatekeeping is a bit necessary? Like words mean things, and a lot of people just kinda do things saying it's this when it objectively isn't and it's very annoying. Like if you know exactly one song by a musician you are (probably) not their fan, you just like one song. There's nothing wrong with liking the one song, it just isn't enough to be considered a fan. Of course people who get excessively judgy and prescriptive are annoying too, but at the end of the day it's all just annoying and you generally shouldn't let it stop you from doing what you want.
I totally agree with the demonia thing! I'm more on the v kei side of things, but have a lot of friends in lolita, and I think it's that a lot of the demonia-lolita content that dominates online is just poorly styled. I was thinking the same: if it's paired with other additions, it looks great! It's honestly the same as slapping demonias on any other outfit it doesn't compliment (which again, is a lot of what ends up getting a ton of engagement and views online)
I feel like I could like demonia knee highs in a sweet coord but that may just be because I personally enjoy adding a bit of edge to my pastels. I’m in this camp of loving gothic silhouettes and motifs but not actually liking to wear dark colors the majority of the time. Basically pastel goth but without even having the black to contrast the pastel (just wash me out completely). That said, I’ve never actually done a coord that way - I really tend more towards Classic, princess-y patterns and motifs when it come to lolita
I think people should feel free to wear the clothes of other cultures, it's a form of admiration and respect ^^ Also the lolita versions are kinda different from traditional dresses~
@Trinity M No, wearing outfits from other cultures is *not* "colonisation" and it's incredibly incredibly wild that you would even say that. Clothes are clothes, if you're not wearing outfits for Halloween night I think people should be allowed to appreciate whatever clothes they want. I'm mixed and like to engage with my cultures, I also live in a very multicultural city where I like to learn about different cultures. Not once have I ever been told I'm "colonising" from people I was learning from
I have a pair of pink demonias that look like mary janes and has cute little heart locks on the ankle strap. Im also interested in A LOT of other fashions but i will wear sweatpants and sweatshirts 90% of the time. im also iffy on the traditional asian inspired lolita just because i don't want to be rude, but i do own an alice in wonderland inspired hanbock that was on devilinspired. but i need to find a different blouse for it because long arms.~ and just saying i bought it because it doesn't look super traditional because the dress is more of a jumper skirt where the skirt meets with the band that's at the bust. Sometimes i wish youtube would allow pictures to be shared in comments lol.
I like the video! Always fun to hear perspectives on stuff in fashion! I'm super dumb and on days off i almost always dress up to some extent but my interests are so many (between goth/rock/emo type styles, decora, lolita, anime loving nuisance, hippie insp, etc etc) that i have a super mixed up collection of things and kindof wear whatever i want as a result lol
I will always aggressively support gatekeeping for any hobby community. It is NOT a bad thing. It is NOT based on your race/sex/sexuality/etc. It's based on "Do you actually enjoy and understand X?" That's it. And also "Do not force your opinions/wants onto the community and force them to conform to your specific wants." This is why so many hobby communities are in shambles nowadays; they didn't gatekeep.
I think Demonias could work if you bring some punk/belt elements into the co-ord. I would like them most with military and Gothic lolita, given that the outfit has belts/buckles/straps throughout. It could also work if u went for a punk lolita or like, sweet lolita combined with Gothic lolita. Sweet themes and colours but with studs, spikes, straps, and belts.
I love wearing stompy boots with lolita, and I feel like the bigger your foot looks the more old scool-ish clunky and oddly proportionate the coord is. I wear my white sparkly demonias with shiro lolita sometimes, and I've even tried making space themed uchuu kei/lolita coords with them. Personally I also LOVE the weird unbalanced look of black goth boots with a light coloured outfit, I've done that outside of lolita a lot. I also wear a ton of styles besides lolita. I got into goth first, and then branched out to many other things as well, but I'm always a goth at heart because of the music. I can and will try almost any alternative or interesting style at least once, if I can find some fitting pieces from thrift stores. IMO the new wave of experimental lolita is the best thing that has ever happened to the subculture. Clown makeup? Awesome. Sneakers or Demonias? Yes. Mixing different styles? Totally. Just having fun and going to town with it? HERE FOR IT! Lolita is not a serious thing, it never has been. Brutally bullying people who make honest mistakes or don't care about researching properly, people who are just goofing around, that drives me so mad, and it happens so much. Our precious subculture is not the most important and sacred thing in the world, deal with it.
This doesn’t have much to do with the video but I’m so sick of lolita being so US-centred. I’m Australian, ordered a lucky pack in November. Saw people in the reviews of the pack from america complaining that it took too long (aka three weeks to a month). I’ve been waiting since the start of November, and it’s only just been shipped out. I know lucky packs take a long time, and I’m not complaining about how long it’s taking it to get here, I’m just complaining about the Americans who are so privileged to be able to have easy access to lolita online, and STILL complaining about how it’s not accessible enough. This lucky pack will be the first ever lolita clothing I have received. I don’t think I’ll post it online for a while, since I don’t want to be considered an Ita even though they know nothing about my situation Edit: it came. I’m about to cry I’m literally so excited
im assuming this is mostly about the demonia swing line of platforms? (the calf length ones) they have some shoes that i think go really well with lolita they’re platform maryjanes / flats with heart buckles. so i think the Demonia brand itself can fit all types of lolita just gotta look hard for some good ones.
I don’t even think it’s a case of needing to look hard. My main intro to demonias *was* their Mary Janes which are super popular in lolita still, right?
Lor: "These are my spicy hot takes and you might want to leave because I'm being brutally honest!" *proceeds to continue being an absolute sweetheart* Protect this woman at all costs.
I’ve never worn demonia shoes with Lolita but i have a fantastic coffin purse from them that I wear with gothic coords all the time! I do like the look of some of their shoes with gothic and punk coords
I don't wear demonias with lolita, but that brand don't just do stacked buckle up high boots. They do mary janes, Victorian style boots, ballet shoes, sandals, flats, etc. Gothic lolitas have been wearing demonias (for example Kera 08 & 10) for ageeees now and I notice this has only been a hot/controversial topic with pink demonias in sweet lolita.
I have a really cute pair of pink demonias that I want to coordinate into a sweeter look! Plus I think they look really cool in a black and pink gothic/punk adjacent coord
Fashion-wise I'm definitely mostly invested in lolita(as well as some other alt styles such as fairy-kei, pastel goth, and mori-kei, to a somewhat lesser degree) as opposed to most normie fashion, but I know that's not the case for everyone! I just went straight from "doesn't care about fashion at all and hates makeup" in my teenage years, to taking in all the information I can about my chosen fashion style and drooling over cute dresses lol. Also, omg, where did you get that pink blouse? It's amazing! I've been looking for a blouse with that sort of ruffly collar, but haven't been able to find any.
I love Demonias too, im a collector and outside of lolita i wear goth and punk. I think they can work in certain coords, like anything! For me though you gotta incorporate more goth/punk into the whole coord so its Not that disconnect between the two. But to each their own of course! \:-)
I'm black and I think most of my wardrobe is Qi or Wa (granted, it's not a huge wardrobe) XD Can't totally speak on their behalf, but I have several Mainland Chinese friends who are super happy to see non-Asians in Qi and I believe the same is true for Wa. Most people enjoy seeing foreigners appreciating their cultures. It's frankly closed-minded, IMO, to say you can't wear those styles if you aren't East Asian.
Great video! I read about forever roses years ago on tmblr and i gotta be real this is obe of the best fitting sponsorships I've ever seen + it's not everywhere to the point of being obnoxious so definitely kudos for that And hnnnnn the black roses are
I own a pair of Demonia Violet 32s and it works pretty well with classic or gothic coords since they have that mary jane look to them. They aren't frilly but they can go with lolita depending on what you wear.
me watching this when i just received some demonias for future coords: 👁️👄👁️ honestly i agree though- the boots sometimes look a bit strange if you're mixing edge with a dress that's totally sweet... tho their mary jane type platforms remind me a lot of old school street snaps so i bought some (dollie-01) to try and replicate that feel- I think they look great with old school/gothic/punk/or even bittersweet coords but sweet and other sub styles are a bit of a hit or miss🤔 but also, "nothing is cringe do whatever you want" is a statement that rings very true to me as well so I'm conflicted hahaha
I wore Demonias with my GLP (Gothic Lolita & Punk) dress before and they just worked. But that was because the dress had a lot of nods to the stereotypical punk aesthetic, so it looked as though they were meant to be coorded, unlike with sweet or classic lolita
Sneakers and lolita Not shaming because sometimes you have stuff to do and need have comfy footwear as you're gonna be on your feet all day, def suited to more casual coords though
I am a Lolita at heart but I don’t interact with the community much because I’m not sure how or where I’d reach out to any other Lolita’s, I respect people that are in the community longer than me and I’m usually the type to try to avoid drama (For context, I am a minor and recently told my mom about Lolita, we’re saving up for my first coord) If anyone has any tips or good Lolita websites (preferably not secondhand, my mom doesn’t trust secondhand websites) I’d appreciate it !!
Lor promotes 42 Lolita all the time and has a discount code for them! The shipping is a bit pricey but it’s a lotttttt cheaper than places like devil inspired! It’s a good website for buying in bulk. I’m 17 and saved up for over a year to make my first purchase of 6 dresses and plenty of accessories
I personally wouldn’t pair high rise demonia boots with lolita, but recently I found that they have a chunky mary jane, and the oldschool lolita inside me couldn’t resist them😹 I’m looking forward to receiving them!
For Wa Lolita, it's fine. I wear and collect kimono and kimono are straight up given as gifts. As long as you understand some kimono basics and are respectful it's fine with wearing kimono. I suspect the same extends to Wa Lolita.
I like the way Demonias look in gothic or punk lolita, personally. But I might have a bias because I personally wear goth and gothic lolita AND Demonias 😆
I love demonias with lolita but I'm also heavily tattooed and have a lot of piercings so I feel like my body is the thing blending the two together However, I don't go to lolita gatherings in demonias because I feel like those spaces and events are for more "traditional" coords
I know I've asked actual kimono sellers and importers whether wearing kimono or kimono style clothing was cultural appropriation or appreciation and they literally say that if you do the research and take the effort to learn about the garments that it is appreciation. They even suggest that I style kimono in a "Harajuku" style which is a shorter kimono over a skirt. I personally love Wa-Lolita and I find that both Qi and Wa are very beautiful.
😹😹I relate to the fashion style statement, I only have fashion sense for the alt styles I’m into, but when it comes to mainstream fashion I’m just completely lost
i wear oldschool sweet or like the 90s kind of lolita fashion that is influenced by punk so to me demonias fit right in. maybe not those specific ones you showed, but i personally enjoy wearing the dollie 01 ones, and i've seen lots of other cute styles from them like the bear 202, dank 101, trashville 502 that have either appeared in old lolita fashion media or look just like shoes from then. even for ott sweet they have shoes like the camel 311 in pink or white, though the big platform might not be for everyone. i can see how some might feel it is a mismatch.
With the “lolitas have no fashion sense outside of lolita”. A lot probably just spending all their money and effort for lolita and want to be comfortable outside of it. Like when people have their lazy days and just want to wear pajamas or leggings. It’s a sharp contrast, yes which is probably why it sticks out to people. I’m not one of those people, I wear a lot of jfashion inspired stuff and actually don’t wear lolita as much. I actually thought a lot of other lolitas wore casual jfashion too, so I don’t know if they’re talking about very casual but still decent or just a big outfit mess?
I was watching your older videos and saw a video on your clay charm collection. Can you do an updated video of your charms. The video was from 10 years ago lol.
Absolutely no offense meant but we almost never see you without the heavier blush. I absolutely adore the lighter makeup look! You look so fresh and sweet and absolutely gorgeous
I Remember About the Cultural Appropriation Discussion in Rufflechat I know its bit late for me to realize it but i realize the discussion were petty and somewhat Unrealisticly Dumb Calm The Fuqq Down RC People Culture Is Not Something You Can Treat the Same Like Intellectual Property because You Can't Copyright a Culture As Well As Fashion Style or Art Style
My Unpopular Lolita Opinion : I'm Sick and Tired when Lolita Community should revolves alone to Americacentric Approach All the Time especially viewing All Non-American Cultural Things with USCentric Lens . Read Tons of Books and Be Serious At Researching , Don't Just Spend your time to stalk the celebgrams account
While I wouldn't personally wear them (messed up feet) I think Demonias would look really good with a pastel goth lolita look that leans towards punk. I realize that pastel punk is really, really niche, but that's my opinion.
there's a lot of different styles of demonias some of them are similar to chunky platform mary janes like angelic imprint has. for me, as someone with a larger shoe size, they're a bit more accessible. tho not every demonia works with lolita ofc
I love my white violet45s paired with lolita fashion because they just work so well together. Not sure if u meant all Demonia shies or just the style in the pic tho 😅
Historybounding, Lolita’s even more specific cousin, has some -intense- Gatekeepers who will read you to filth (while reading you the riot act) for not being historically accurate even when you explicitly say you are leaning more bound than historical. 😭 These people do not understand that not everyone is a lifestyler and make Lolita gatekeepers seem so much lovelier.
I just had my first Lolita cord I’m still learning I wore Paldium shoes which looked like Demonia and I thought it was cute but ahhhh!!!! Also it’s a goth Lolita dress so I thought it worked really well
punk sweet can be a maybe for but the famed trinity velvet boots are ok? goth can be sweet too! but if you see a bigger lens can help you math that thing.some Korean earrings can be good actually! knowing how simple the genre the dress came in can be a plus too see if it fits be a 90's cartoon to a classical painting to things that can be in a anime episode ✨ if now you have a hard gloss of actual fashion it will be a shine over in general what you can do for your perfect for changing the thing if it was too expensive. i can be the goth or the glamour casual, egirls? then this just to see the genre if you don't like to buy it too.
as an emo and gothic lolita, i tend to only mix more plain platform shoes/boots. i have a pair of lace up black platform boots and a pair of platform mary jane shoes and i frequently wear those. demonias just seem sort of too detailed to be mixed to me? with all the buckles. with the detailed prints form the dress having very ott shoes as well kind of makes everything seem cluttered.

I think Demonias works really well with more gothic and punk styles. The intensity works really well
I agree with this :)
Yeah, I think Lor was talking specifically about standard sweet lolita even though she didn’t explicitly specify it. I would love to see more cool edgy shoes paired with gothic and punk coords:D
i agree!!!
I definitely agree. They crash super well but with sweet lolita they just look out of place.
definitely. i’ve seen them look okay with fairy kei, decora kei, or like punk styles as well. however with classy victorian styles like lolita, it looks so strange 😭
"2022...nothing is cringe, do whatever you want," is totally how I feel about a LOT of things rn, you nailed it.
I definitely don't condone bullying and want to make sure beginners have the resources they need, but it can be really annoying to have someone compare wearing some amazon cosplay to actual serious problems this community has with gatekeeping.
this
Gatekeeping is a good thing.
Espacially if you consider that Demonia is just a brand and not a Style off shoes.. they have every cute Design that work well with Lolita
@@toopunkrockforshul7933 right, i own the kera 08 demonia shoes (the platform mary janes) and maybe i'm ita but i don't see the issue lmao
Really? I think they're the prettiest substyles but I didn't know if I could wear them 😅
@@nah_. yes, anyone can wear any substyle of lolita, don't let anyone police you or tell you otherwise.
I'm a black person from the U.S. and I love Qi and Wa! I have a friend from Mainland China and she is always so supportive of me wearing Qi! :D
I don’t see to many Lolita’s wearing that (Atlanta
,Georgia) especially within the black lolita community here
I always figured, if they're not based off of things worn for very special events or only by certain people in the culture and therefore very culturally significant, then it would be alright especially if you understand the basics of what the style is based from.
as a chinese person, I think anyone can wear wa or qi (pronounced like chee, not key) lolita as long as they're respectful towards the culture and not wear it in a "haha this is asian weeaboo clothes" sort of way 🤠👍
as for gatekeeping, I think normies/people who don't actually wear lolita fashion, they might think we're gatekeeping when it's just that lolita fashion has many 'rules', like keeping the silhouette and keeping a coord balanced. they might also see a frilly maid costume and not realise that lolita fashion pieces have much better construction 🤔
as another chinese person id like to add that personally i think it'd be best that if in these styles you preface that you're not asian as to avoid claims of asianfishing, since most times people accuse others of this due to them looking more racially ambiguous when they are indeed white
Qi is chee/chi for Chinese but chi for Italian is qi. Wanted to insert this random info.
Yes! I’m (half) Chinese too, as long as it’s not done to intentionally mock and done in a respectful way then it’s all good!
i just fret for you too for the cheap guzzle ones.
If you're wearing the super long boots, I think it'd look cool with a shorter dress to balance it out
Bittersweet is just sweet in black color ways tho
@@smegellimes I think black is more than often associated with being "cool" and "sexy" instead of sweet. With bitter sweet there is a clash of high saturation light color with the black, and there is where the "disconnection" happen I think
@@yucheung5853 Or...ya know it's just sweet in black colorways. Most of the prints are pretty traditional sweet on top of that (ie: sugary carnival).
Some pairs straight up look like shoes Mana wears 💙
I saw the fluffy pairs that got popular recently a lot in Cult Party kei a lot a few years back, I feel like the new pastel colours or white could look so cute in sweet lolita, maybe with a dress with faux fur like some of the AP winter releases
Demonia has kitty face mary janes and flats, along with platform and T-strap mary janes with heels. theyre sooo cute with lolita coords if you dont want to look too short or don't like the staple lolita shoes. Either way, knee high demonias aren't as terrible as wearing Pleaser shoes (stripper & burlesque shoes) lol!!!
i love goth lolita and that can go well with the silver trinity boots!
This is so true demonia actually has a lot of alternative fashion staples, Dolly-50s for example would be perfect for mana-inspired egl looks
I’ve seen a few, and I’ve seen them work well when you’re mixing sweet and the color black for a sweet but kind of edgy look.
@@oliveoconnor5589 completely understandable, I hope they make pattern making and grading software more intuitive and under $2000 in the near future!
@@oliveoconnor5589 relating so much with this, I've only made things for myself and looking into commission type work, and I feel bad being non-inclusive about sizing outside my range but I just don't have the skills to back me up yet 😭
I've looked into it a bit and seems bigger sizes also tend to vary more and won't always work with single body block.
Wait what's the name of your brand please??? I'm always on the lookout for more sweet ouji!!!
Unless someone is doing it to mock people it really isn't anything but cultural exchange.
non filthy frank here.
@Trinity M what are you talking about?????????

I just want to have a natural waist line man >.
same :(
Lolita's love affair with high waists is murder, man. I have the shortest torso in the world, let me liiiive
Me tooooooooo... this is why I keep making dresses for myself. High waists are not comfy Q.Q

I love that. They go up to 13 size wise I own 2 pairs and they are worth the money
As a “Lolita at heart” I would never even attempt to critique or comment on someone’s coord, other than compliments. I love to draw Lolita fashion, because the patterns and prints are just so wonderful!
I’m interested in Lolita, Harajuku Punk and Gyaru! I actually just got my first Lolita dresses a few days ago!
Point by point (hopefully) calmly disagreeing
1. "demonias" arent just one pair of shoes. its a whole brand that has a fair bit of variety to it imo. I can certainly understand how the pictured style of boots might not go with, say, a typical sweet coord, but they might go well with punk lolita or some other substyle. doug dimmadome joke was good though
2. I dont actually really disagree with thinking that cat's tea party is overrated however i do disagree that its a spicy opinion. more of a mild take imo
3. there isnt a lot of like "no you cant wear lolita you're too xyz" gatekeeping but there sure is plenty of homophobia, racism, transphobia, and ableism. especially transmisogyny.
This video reminded me of spring
They don’t appreciate being likened to a pedophilic fantasy. Quite the leap to call that “sex-negative” 🤔
Im so obsessed with your co ord in this video omfggg !!! The blouse, the little party bear aaaaaaa
Honestly I really like cat ears in lolita :>
It's really funny how you opened the video with your opinion on Demonia's platforms (which is a valid opinion to have, btw), when I've been meaning to get a pair for ages now. I think they can work in lolita specifically *because* of the contrast between the chunky platform and delicate frills. They look particularly cute with oldschool for the same reasons RHS do, but I've seen a few people coord their pink platforms with 2010 era sweet lolita and they look fantastic there too.
Agreeddd. I think it looks very nice if you can manage a good balance overall.
That sounds like its so pretty! I think demonias totally go with more gothic styles
I love the pretty delicate pastel, intense stompy heavy combo of demonias in Lolita. I see it as a fun contrast when done intentionally.
I don’t think I’ll post it online for a while, since I don’t want to be considered an Ita even though they know nothing about my situation
Edit: it came. I’m about to cry I’m literally so excited
im assuming this is mostly about the demonia swing line of platforms? (the calf length ones)
they have some shoes that i think go really well with lolita they’re platform maryjanes / flats with heart buckles. so i think the Demonia brand itself can fit all types of lolita just gotta look hard for some good ones.
I don’t even think it’s a case of needing to look hard. My main intro to demonias *was* their Mary Janes which are super popular in lolita still, right?
About demonias, I think some of their shoes can work with gothic lolita. Also, would love to see a house/room/whatever tour of your new place!
Lor: "These are my spicy hot takes and you might want to leave because I'm being brutally honest!"
*proceeds to continue being an absolute sweetheart*
Protect this woman at all costs.
I wear and like other fashions that arent lolita, like fairy kei :) but im also kinda broke so i dont even wear that everyday either
Just a little thing, qi as style is pronounced closer to "chi" , not "key" 😊
shocked this is the first comment ive found pointing this out
I’ve never worn demonia shoes with Lolita but i have a fantastic coffin purse from them that I wear with gothic coords all the time!
@@phlackbillip That sounds amazing! 🖤
It's frankly closed-minded, IMO, to say you can't wear those styles if you aren't East Asian.
obsessed with your wall colors, wow what a great space~ !!
Great video!
I read about forever roses years ago on tmblr and i gotta be real this is obe of the best fitting sponsorships I've ever seen + it's not everywhere to the point of being obnoxious so definitely kudos for that
And hnnnnn the black roses are
I own a pair of Demonia Violet 32s and it works pretty well with classic or gothic coords since they have that mary jane look to them. They aren't frilly but they can go with lolita depending on what you wear.
me watching this when i just received some demonias for future coords: 👁️👄👁️
honestly i agree though- the boots sometimes look a bit strange if you're mixing edge with a dress that's totally sweet... tho their mary jane type platforms remind me a lot of old school street snaps so i bought some (dollie-01) to try and replicate that feel- I think they look great with old school/gothic/punk/or even bittersweet coords but sweet and other sub styles are a bit of a hit or miss🤔 but also, "nothing is cringe do whatever you want" is a statement that rings very true to me as well so I'm conflicted hahaha
I wore Demonias with my GLP (Gothic Lolita & Punk) dress before and they just worked. But that was because the dress had a lot of nods to the stereotypical punk aesthetic, so it looked as though they were meant to be coorded, unlike with sweet or classic lolita
Me: Let's see if there's something on the youtubes I can listen to while tidying.
Also me: Oh, Lor's new video, gotta watch that glued to the screen!
Sneakers and lolita
Not shaming because sometimes you have stuff to do and need have comfy footwear as you're gonna be on your feet all day, def suited to more casual coords though
I am a Lolita at heart but I don’t interact with the community much because I’m not sure how or where I’d reach out to any other Lolita’s, I respect people that are in the community longer than me and I’m usually the type to try to avoid drama
(For context, I am a minor and recently told my mom about Lolita, we’re saving up for my first coord)
If anyone has any tips or good Lolita websites (preferably not secondhand, my mom doesn’t trust secondhand websites) I’d appreciate it !!
Let me just start off by saying you look absolutely stunning!
I like the way Demonias look in gothic or punk lolita, personally. But I might have a bias because I personally wear goth and gothic lolita AND Demonias 😆
ok but the doug dimmadome bit had me rolling
Yay! Been binging your vids all day and now there’s new content 💕💕💕
I love demonias with lolita but I'm also heavily tattooed and have a lot of piercings so I feel like my body is the thing blending the two together
However, I don't go to lolita gatherings in demonias because I feel like those spaces and events are for more "traditional" coords
2:25 reminds me of how nadja talks in what we do in the shadows haha
Some Mary Jane style platform Demonias can fit the Lolita style, it's not all stompers.
i wear oldschool sweet or like the 90s kind of lolita fashion that is influenced by punk so to me demonias fit right in. maybe not those specific ones you showed, but i personally enjoy wearing the dollie 01 ones, and i've seen lots of other cute styles from them like the bear 202, dank 101, trashville 502 that have either appeared in old lolita fashion media or look just like shoes from then. even for ott sweet they have shoes like the camel 311 in pink or white, though the big platform might not be for everyone. i can see how some might feel it is a mismatch.

I know its bit late for me to realize it but i realize the discussion were petty and somewhat Unrealisticly Dumb

I love how Lor looks in lolita☺
Unrelated but this coord is sooooo cute!!!
I rlly like Lolita but I’m still 11 and I’m afraid I’ll never be able to afford it when I’m old enough
Should I still be worried
I love my white violet45s paired with lolita fashion because they just work so well together. Not sure if u meant all Demonia shies or just the style in the pic tho 😅
Historybounding, Lolita’s even more specific cousin, has some -intense- Gatekeepers who will read you to filth (while reading you the riot act) for not being historically accurate even when you explicitly say you are leaning more bound than historical. 😭
These people do not understand that not everyone is a lifestyler and make Lolita gatekeepers seem so much lovelier.
I love demonias with a disconnecting lolita look, the whites and pinks with black just gives off a mall goth kinda feel
I assumed you had painted that room. I am sad you’re painting over it. It’s so damn cute.
I just had my first Lolita cord I’m still learning I wore Paldium shoes which looked like Demonia and I thought it was cute but ahhhh!!!! Also it’s a goth Lolita dress so I thought it worked really well
New Lor video 🥳🥳🥳🥳!!!!
I watch all the ads because I looove your videos
My opinion is that there are stitch counters and meanies in every fashion community. People need to loosen the fudge up!
Chunky goth shoes have always been a part of Lolita. I don't care. I'll wear black chunky boots with sweet. I don't care.
punk sweet can be a maybe for but the famed trinity velvet boots are ok? goth can be sweet too! but if you see a bigger lens can help you math that thing.some Korean earrings can be good actually! knowing how simple the genre the dress came in can be a plus too see if it fits be a 90's cartoon to a classical painting to things that can be in a anime episode ✨ if now you have a hard gloss of actual fashion it will be a shine over in general what you can do for your perfect for changing the thing if it was too expensive. i can be the goth or the glamour casual, egirls? then this just to see the genre if you don't like to buy it too.
as an emo and gothic lolita, i tend to only mix more plain platform shoes/boots. i have a pair of lace up black platform boots and a pair of platform mary jane shoes and i frequently wear those. demonias just seem sort of too detailed to be mixed to me? with all the buckles. with the detailed prints form the dress having very ott shoes as well kind of makes everything seem cluttered.
