I don't know where this term popped up but we certainly didn't call it "Frutiger Aero" in those years. It was known as just a form of skeuomorphic, futurist design evolved from what we had around the turn of the millennium (and at least in part as a response to what OS/X was doing at the time). The term "aero" its self is a backronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open which describe the principles of the design language.

Windows Vista's Aero aesthetic is still top tier. I preferred mine with that one black city background and the white aero taskbar theme. Loved it so much, shame it got replaced with FLAT MATTE SQUARES
@penguindefender5134 nothing beats coming home from the playground, washing your hands with the cool fish soap, and having lunch with mom. And maybe watching a dvd after you're finished.
Someone once described Frutiger Aero as "the future we were promised", and that has stuck with me ever since. The 90s and 2000s felt so much more positive and optimistic towards the future. Nowadays it seems like everyone is miserable. Those oversimplified corporate logos and art styles certainly aren't helping. Sometimes I dream about -cheese- going back in time to relive those good old days. It's both melancholic and comforting to look back at the past. I like listening to the Frutiger Aero playlist with the wallpaper slideshow. Someone should make a Frutiger Aero VR experience, if one doesn't already exist.
Optimistic??!!! Were you even alive during those times? It was the height of the Post 9-11 era and that disaster was in everybody's mind. It was a time of heightened fear and hate, especially with the War on Terror. The 90s and Y2K were more optimistic because while yes there were issues it was also the end of the Cold War in 1991 and the fall of the USSR. The economy was thriving for the most part and major societal issues today either weren't a thing or were only just starting to appear.

It was displayed in the Sirroco Arts Centre in East Belfast between September 10th of 2022 and August 5th of 2023. Afterwards it was displayed outside Stormount Buildings before being damaged by severe hail the next day and decommisoned. 14 of the 1.100 portraits ended up in the cover of Pbutta and the Shantallow Gang's 2023 release "Real powerful that, but what about the 07.00 train to Omagh not stopping in Sion Mills the one time I need to go and see my aunt in Sion Mills meaning i had to wait near enough half an hour for the next 100a bus to come to go the distance one train stop back and the bus driver wouldn't even let me on for free because of what had happened and the fact I had paid £7.90 for a return ticket from Omagh by accident when trying to buy a return from Sion Mills because thats where I was going in the first place meaning I had to pay a thurther £5 for a bus rambler ticket (keep in mind I could have got a single for £1.80 but I wanted to get a bus ticket for the rest of the day so I had the option of getting a bus back up to Derry just incase I couldn't get the train, I got a rambler instead of a just a return as it allows for use on Goldliner services aswell and I can use it for the bus back up home as well as after all this I probably wont feel like walking back home when I get off the bus/train.) to get to Sion Mills, after getting off the bus at the station I went into the station to ask why the train hadn't stopped when my aunt rung me to ask if I had got to the station alright, I was about to tell her my story when the train going in the opposite direction pulled in making me decide to forget about it and think about how mistakes happen and how to forgive people, I told my aunt I was just off the train and that it was a little bit late leaving Foyle Street she tutted as usual and told me to hurry as Jim Megaw was on UTV Morning talking to Ellen McDonald about opportunity and such things. I hurried along Station Road across the Main Road and up it to Primrose Park and up it again to my aunts house just as I knocked on the door my phone rang again it was my ma saying I had forgotten my watch on the counter, I remembered that I knew that and told her I knew and that it was alright where it was, she then told me it was on my desk, I thanked her and told her I would see her later. My aunt greeted me at the door and handed me a cup of tea before I'd even got my bag down and my coat off, I placed it on the shelf on the side of the stairs where the phone and the little bell thing for the doorbell was and took my bag and coat off in one motion, then lifting my tea and walking into the living room. Knowing I had made it." Of his decision to put them on the album cover which I nichely questioned Albert Thompson (Better known as of course Pbutta) he replied I dont know I found them in a bag in a charity shop on the Antrim Road. Pbutta was later to die to what he wanted the most a chip from the Rosemount Chippy, choking to death on a chip which if it had been properly lathered in curry may have become dislodged but sadly we cannot change the past. In other news there is great turmoil in Belfast as a man parks his car in the middle of the Ravenhill Road bikeway even though he has a driveway on the opposite side of the road, he was not ticketed but only asked to move it and was later asked by Ravenhill Community Paper why he had parked there, the man said "I thought the green paint would help my tires... Y'know magnetism and and all at... Y'know... So you do..." He was later carried off into the distance by a angry mob of chinchilla enthusiasts and a pea.

A lot of companies went with grey blacks and whites to be inoffensive or as a way to pretend the slot machine made to be addicting isn't for teens. That is bad, don't do that.
Aesthetics are distilled wonders, and wonders spread through enthusiasm and people's tendency to relate. It's trivial to have nostalgia for any period in the past given a concept that is presented well.
Back in 2017 I’ve always had this feeling I saw this aesthetic all over the place like water toys, the Wii, DS, dentists, stock images of environmental consciousness, so much so I drew an image in ms paint in a blue background and circles. I was really hoping that this would be the future, but we might just wait and see what's out there.
Ww3 that's what's out there....
We need to bring frutiger aero back 😔
it’s wild to think about gen alpha being nostalgic for the flat, corporate, vector aesthetic when they reach their 20s 😭😭
Nah we ain't living that long 💀 UK is spending billions to make the Torment Nexus
man i totally forgot about vaporwave, i used to love outrun and vaporwave so much, allthough outrun was obviously better and my favorite
we may all be frutiger aero lovers but we mustnt forget our roots
Still massive? Brother it's the first time Im hearing about this shit 😭
And its also the first time you've heard about The O'Neil Portrait is a 2022 art piece by artist Ross Self-McManaman made in response to the death of Terrence O'Neill the year before it consisted of 1.100 images of Terrence O'Neill wrapped around a sphere the images were contrasted to create a mosaic globe with the singular image of O'Neil that represented Northern Ireland colourised.
Frutiger Aero wants to be part of your Symphony
3:25
Was (and still is) obsessed with this aesthetic. Even made a whole music album about it.
It’s not for everyone though so it’ll be sad once it goes out of style. So it’s possible that corporate Memphis will make a comeback.
✨ F R U T I G E R F O R E V E R 🏝️
I'm glad Frutiger Aero is still alive, gives some hope in todays world 🌎
I drool over that style way better than currently corporate style of ultra flat colourless minimalistic design currently
That’s the song that was in the boozy Uzi comic
Frutiger aero also known as the promised future
We yearn for a past we were promised
You know what else is still massive
For some reason, TH-cam unsubbed me. Only saw this by chance and I've apparently missed several of your videos. Glad to have you back in my recommended videos.
i bought a toy camera recently that is very frutiger aero. it can play music so i put pop ‘n’ schlock from splatoon 3 on it since it is an inexplicably nostalgic song.
It's pretty surreal to see my sister's favourite Mario Kart stage being memed for years already.
Hope it makes an actual comeback in the future
I think one thing to mention is that between vaporwave and fruitiger, there was a bit of a ps1/dreamcast jungle/underground graphic brutalism wave that really hit almost like a new dubstep wave
I always loved staring at these when I was a kid. It's an aesthetic that is appealing to all ages, and I hope that it makes a comeback in one form to replace the modern corporate style we see today.
Literally my favourite early internet aesthetic ever.
i actually made a Frutiger Aero-esque song today. kinda crazy coincidence
Care to share your song?
I was born in 1996, so 1999 and the 2000s where my childhood so when having a PC back then to play Zoo tycoon, Space Cadet Pinball, heck even Dinosaur Adventure 3D was the games I played back then, so yeah nostalgia is 100% a thing for me, and also mentioning the 360 is also a big one like the Blades UI or the 2nd one was top notch.
So when people make fun of it I tend to see the younger gen mot getting the Idea as to why it comforting.
It's definitely a you had to be there moment as a kid.
its weird, because i was born very late into gen z, my memory is awful so i can barely remember anything from the early 2010s when i was really young, and iirc had no internet access for that time but frutiger aero is starting to hit a spot for me still
A lot of companies went with grey blacks and whites to be inoffensive or as a way to pretend the slot machine made to be addicting isn't for teens.
Untitled did a great vid abt this aeathetic and I felt my life was complete now I know its name (even tho it’s a retronym)
So this is the reason why I love glass, the color lime green and Windows 7. Informative. 👍
Bring back our beloved windows 7
NO DON'T SAY IT
You get a gold star because this has to be one of the best dives into meme culture without being meme culture. If you understand what i mean.
I STOLE ALL YOUR AEROS
Frutiger metro squad 🗣️🗣️
Kind of reminds me of solar punk 😅
Frutiger Aero really needs to come back in some way. This by itself could change society for the better.
And you know what else is massive?
Nothing like the sweet startup sound of windows XP, followed by a wallpaper of the beautiful rolling hills
You know what else is massive?
YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE IS MASSIVE? THE LOW TAPER FADE
