  • Some of the Whitsunday Model Boat Club members have had issues with cracks forming in the hulls of their DF95s and we have come up with a method to strengthen the plastic hull with fibreglass around the keel stem.

I have done mine using West System G Flex epoxy mixed with silica powder to a point where it will still run but it's fairly stiff, insert the epoxy mix with a syringe and tube to the base only. Manipulate the hull to allow the epoxy to flow into an even bead around the trunk base.Laquer thinners works excellent, don't put thinners of any discription on anything black it melts.G Flex is made for plastic.

Thank you! I followed your feedback and used the same formula and "painted" it onto the inside hull around the keel using a simple water color brush with a 45° head. I melted the plastic paint brush with a heat gun to create the bend.

This repair has now been approved for racing under rule DF95 A7. Be sure glass extends no further than 30 mm from base of keel truck.

The Seawind had the same issue with the same fix. Mostly we reinforced them during assembly. I will be doing that with my do 95

Suggest putting some cheap packing tape on your stick as epoxy won’t stick to the tape.

The best solvent for epoxy is methylated spirits. It’s therefore excellent for cleaning the area before applying the glass, and equally good for cleaning up the resin. I work a lot with epoxy in aircraft and marine applications.

This video is four years old. Has Joysway lifted their game in the recent V2 model?

We shouldn't have to do all this....The product should have a recall or money back offer.

Agreed, I don't know what it is about the hobby industry that leads to such poor QC. Maybe our willingness to fix it ourselves out of the box.

GREAT VIDIO.How well has the repair lasted. Did you find the hull cracked again beyond the repair area?

Hi, we have done over 10 boats, both 95 ans 65s. All have had no issues with the hulls since

Thank you for your demonstration. I would like to buy a DF 95 with remote control, can point me to a seller with acceptable prices. Thank you in advance.

Going well, we have had one boat crack along the edge of the fibreglass but pretty sure that was from a 3.5 hr road trip where weight shifted onto it
