I have over 75 vintage Daiwa spinning reels but not one from this series. These are phenomenal reels but I see little if any differences between them and the GS Daiwa reels except for cosmetics. I do think the Black/Gold Daiwas have better paint than the silver and gold ones. Honestly I’ve collected more of the Silver Series and Gold Series mostly because of how much Black/Gold Daiwa reels cost on the used reel market. Someday maybe I’ll get a few. You really had a time with this one. I had to do the same on a GS-9 I’m still working on. You did a great job bringing this beautiful reel back to life. If you find some at a decent price, they are worth adding to you collection. Just note that the larger ones tend to develop a rotor wobble over time

I will do one. They are not a easy as the original, but it is not the most difficult reel to work on either
Crazy. I literally just got done cleaning and regreasing/oiling a BG10 today and then i saw your video. I bought it online and its in mint shape and still has the tag thats wrapped around the handle leaving me to think it was never fished. Im so tempted to fish with it but Id have to rip the tag off since the rotor knocks on it. Daiwa mustve factory greased the bearings on these? Mine was caked where they wouldn't even spin. Had to take the bearings apart to clean the dried grease off. Love your channel.
Thanks - if it never went fishing, then it would be factory grease. It could be that it was only used a few times and possibly service a while ago and that may be the source of the extra grease. Hard to say.
If it was me, I'd take the reel fishing, that is what is was meant to do. - Dennis
The few Daiwa reels I've had I liked, they did what it said on the tin and did it well, ..................which set me thinking did Daiwa make a ''bad '' reel.
Their "Crossfire" Wal-mart reels are cheap, junky/clunky.
Daiwa makes everything from inexpensive, basic reels to the most expensive ones. The low end line will do what they say the will, but don't expect them to perform like the BGs. The problem usually comes when folks by the $30 reel and expect it to perform like the $300 one and then say it is a bad reel
@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks for that Dennis - much the same as always - you get what you pay for, ........................ my original Millionaire 6 HM is superb, as were my silver 4000 series fixed spools - which I've often regretted selling - FWIW both were fished low on the butt South African style on 12ft Conoflex Cod 5 beach rods

I've never had a spinning reel with an anti-reverse dog. It seems to work like the anti-reverse on a baitcaster. (There are two, I'm speaking of the one activated when the thumb bar is pressed which involves the rachet wheel.) But why do some of the larger reels move the action of the dog at the back all the way forward to engage grooves on the inside of the rotor? Or am I wrong that some do that?
Also, this really shows the importance of, and why reel makers have moved to, sealed or shielded bearings. I've never seen a bearing with the balls jambed like that before.
They are different designs but equally effective. Some use the rotor as the click ratchet and some use the extra piece not the pinion gear.
Of course, most "modern" reels have gone to the A/R clutch bearing. The engineering challenge with those is that they are one way clutches and there is no easy way to do the over-ride and dis-engage the A/R, so the manufacturers have largely quit trying and just eliminated the over-ride
I used to own one of those. Great little reel. That one's in near mint condition.
They started a legacy with he Black Gold series that continues today
I like this reel with three bearings just where they do the most good.

did the companies change from silver to black and gold about the same time ? It sure makes them look more regal
There were a lot of problems with he paint not he 1970-80 silver reels, so I think that was why the schemes changed

Well Done Dennis. That Was A Job Getting Past Those Bearings ! Maybe A New Set Might Make That Reel Quieter ? But You Are Right 40 Years Old They Are Allowed to Make Some Noise.
I'm sure the reel would be near new with replacement bearings.
Daiwas are a class Reel. I have a small to med Collection of them .
I really like the Daiwa line up
