Saw Kool Keith perform 20 years ago and instead of throwing out CDs and T-shirt’s to the crowd he threw out juice boxes, chicken wings (in plastic sandwich bags) and porno mags. I’ll never forget that.

I don't know who did this documentary. I appreciate the documentation of putting together a body of work that presents to us one of the best under appreciated MCs, and unique social personalities of all time. Before there was a DOOM or before there were OUTKASTs there was KOOL KEITH. For me he ranks as one of the TOP 10 MCs of ALL TIME!!! Ahead of his TIME a true ORIGINATOR.. Never DUPLICATOR!!

This is as lucid an interview as I've ever seen of Keith - impressive. It's amazing how many rappers are eloquent on the mic but get tongue tied and have a hard time expressing themselves in interviews.

For some of them it’s a tactic so they’re not constantly getting hassled to give interviews. Bob Dylan tried to do the same thing but he got too famous.
I have followed hip hop for 25 years plus and Keith is one of the only true mc's left on hip hop scene. Does what he wants when he wants ,True talent.

Talking about KRS is tricky. You have to admit that he's one of the orginators of hip hop. With that, and where the scene was at the time, being humble wasn't the goal. "The Bridge is Over" might not be the first dis rap ever, but it's certainly one of the best of the time.
Add into that what Kris has done for hip hop and consciousness of the form since then and you can see how he might have the ego he does.
But I agree, Kool Keith is a much more down to earth dude. And once you lock into what he's doing and understand it, you see how he elevated the artform to another level.
Both have their place. And both of their ways of viewing the world and describing it are equally fucking perfect.

Me and Premier were like dope fiends when it came to Ultra. He even sought out the studio where they recorded the first Ultra album and made his first Gang Starr album there as well.

IMHO, and it is only my opinion, Kool Keith is up there as one of the greatest rappers/producers of all time. Ultramagnetics blew the competition away, and what he went on to do after that was pioneering to say the least.

Back in 95-96 i remember koolkieth inside skateboard mags.i wasn't a sk8tr per say but my homies did their thing u kno.. My skill definition is & has been always underground hiphop turntablist. I was surprised seein koolkieth next to penny wise & other genres of band style artists. To me KK is str8 up underground hiphop & maybe the Godfather of that title& to me the "corporate music industry" was for ppL that are not underground based.
I remember gettn paid to dj at a frat house & the requests were jay z,missy Elliot,puff daddy ludakriss etc..I was so angst to put on a record of my style preference & Dr Octigon Lp BlueFlowers track...there was kinda an awkwardness feeling & everybody truly wasn't feelin it. Proved ppl were extremely biased towards "independent" or wt I prefer saying is "underground hiphop".
Now ppl are more open minded about "independent" genres of music. Now I can go full throttle & play underground hiphop & stay clear away from the " corporate"... I'm just amazed at the length of time it took for PpL to finally get that there's underground style hiphop.. It was there for a loooooong time. Idk .ppl really needed to un brainwash themselves I guess. ..but I wished more ppl back then & some now were aware that there is more talented styles than the styles that are being played on the pop charts..
Kool Keith should really be called in my opinion Grandmaster KoolKieth. He gave so much for so long & I really appreciate him & the role he's been taking for hiphop.

I'm from Chicago..up here I'd be spinning underground hiphop in house basements. Independent hiphop is the shit over here. I then went to college down in Houston...I was doing frat parties ...everybody here was leaning on some corporate rap..which is cool because it was all spun on wax & with some turntablism. Don't get me wrong ..this took place in 96-97. Nowadays it's hard to play some real hiphop on wax with all the new tech goin on. ....and over there in Cali I know underground hiphop was bangin..I've met the group Dialated People's several times, I've met Cypress Hill, Sick Jaken, Ras Kass. Peace be 2 tha west because u all got it goin on. Werd.
