This is as lucid an interview as I've ever seen of Keith - impressive. It's amazing how many rappers are eloquent on the mic but get tongue tied and have a hard time expressing themselves in interviews.
For some of them it’s a tactic so they’re not constantly getting hassled to give interviews. Bob Dylan tried to do the same thing but he got too famous.

Me and Premier were like dope fiends when it came to Ultra. He even sought out the studio where they recorded the first Ultra album and made his first Gang Starr album there as well.
Talking about KRS is tricky. You have to admit that he's one of the orginators of hip hop. With that, and where the scene was at the time, being humble wasn't the goal. "The Bridge is Over" might not be the first dis rap ever, but it's certainly one of the best of the time. Add into that what Kris has done for hip hop and consciousness of the form since then and you can see how he might have the ego he does. But I agree, Kool Keith is a much more down to earth dude. And once you lock into what he's doing and understand it, you see how he elevated the artform to another level. Both have their place. And both of their ways of viewing the world and describing it are equally fucking perfect.
