I work in aerial firefighting. This movie made me seen and appreciated. This job is actually super hard and you go from hotel to hotel all season long working your butt off for people who randomly corner you and either yell in your face about fires being bad or won't let you just enjoy your breakfast that's actually dinner because you worked all night fixing the bird. Sometimes the pilots get it even worse and they absolutely deserve the recognition.
It’s sad to say, but pilots don’t get the recognition they deserve. I think all of you are amazing. I have a friend who works in Wildland Firefighting, and he once told me about a time when the wind shifted, and the fire got dangerously close to them. They needed a drop right on top of their location, and the pilot came through. He told me that if it weren’t for that drop, he probably wouldn’t be here today. I’m truly thankful for what you all do, and you deserve much more recognition. (Keep in mind that he did simplify it for me as a non-firefighter.

he’s finally reviewing this one! Lot of people like this movie more than the first one. It’s kinda crazy how they managed to release this just one year after Planes 1
What about cars 2? Wasnt the main villain a "rich shitbox" that had the money to buy tons of replacement parts? Why is he surprised about vehicle organs now?
When I was 4 years old, I was on a plane obsession phase, and when I was watching TH-cam on my mom's computer, that's when I saw the trailer for the first Planes movie, and my eyes lit up in excitement, and when we went to see it, my mom and dad didn't like that movie very much but me being a toddler, I didn't care, I loved planes, go ahead a year later, I saw the planes 2 trailer. I was also very excited for it, and my parents were hesitant, but we went to see this one and my mom and dad told me they liked it, and I still sometimes rewatch this movie sometimes for the memories, I'm 15 now, and I miss those days
I love ONE joke actually in this movie. When the white Escelade Cadillac comes to the fire fighters base, the mechanic says "I urgently need to wash the bucket". Idk if it's in the original but in mine language version this joke sounds incredible relatable and hilarious and I unironically use this line in some irl cases.
@@demongamer_IX I translated it: I urgently need to wash the bucket. It's just so absurd that makes it funny. Imagine a situation where idk some annoying aunt comes to your house and you do not want to talk to her, so you have to get yourself a reason, a task for example. So you say for example "I urgently need to wash a bucket" just to avoid that person and get yourself any task. It's funny cuz' no one really need to wash the bucket as highest priority. Damn explaining the funny can be weird and difficult EDIT: Version I watched was polish, sorry, forgot to mention
@@kishel7 That sounds like the same thing in my country England, people used to say "Welp I've got to see a man about a dog" means the same thing o3o to avoid something.

At face value being told as a child that crime is bad is propaganda and it’s the same with literally anything but we don’t use the word like that… it’s deadass a waste of time to label everything as propaganda
Idea for end: he gats a custom gearbox that isn't race spec and that leaves him with a lower max speed but with more power making him able to be a better firefighter and finding fulfillment in his new career.
As someone who actually watched the Planes movies as a kid, I actually think the concept was nice but the way in which it was used was poorly executed. Same with the sequel. 😅
This movie had all of the potential to be something great. If the execution wasn't bog standard and it didn't end with Dusty getting the best of both worlds, it could've genuinely been a great story of acceptance and finding a new purpose in life. It's just so infuriating because it has all of the building blocks for such a great story and message, but it just drops the ball. It favors a much more predictable plot line, and also tries to satisfy the general audience by giving the happiest ending possible and completely disregarding what happened before hand.
31:26 About him reverting to being a racer. At that time it seems that studio worked on developing Planes 3. So maybe they had to keep the statues quo for the next movie which acording to leaked storyboards would be about racing again. But sadly, the studio was shut down was shut down and with it all its extended cars universe film sequels
Please cover the CANCELLED Planes 3, also known as Beyond The Sky. The only thing I know about this movie is that it was originally going to be about space.
Honestly the gearbox story point and not making specific parts anymore reminds me a lot of Robots because that was the whole point of that movie: we’re gonna stop making parts so everyone is forced to buy pretty new things and those who can’t (the uglys), become scraps and die. So to answer your question, yes, once they stop making parts, the models who have those parts that are no longer in production basically become disabled/handicapped, sick, and eventually die.
Yeah, it's the main plot of Cars 2. The lemons have tons of parts that aren't in production, so most of the head honchos are disabled and have to be towed around, and its how Mater figures out Sir Miles Axelrod
At that time of release, my dad (who used to work at Disney) explained to me why this sequel was made so instantly after the first one. It's because the filmmakers was so overly-confident in the first Planes that they assumed everyone was gonna love it (lol) so they greenlit a sequel. Then they realized the sequel was a mistake after the first was hated but still went forward with it.
Recently, the original Planes recently popped back into my brain after not thinking about it for at least half a decade. When thinking about it, I was like "oh yeah, in hindsight that movie wasn't all that good, but hey at least I'm nostalgic for it." But when I tried to do the same for this movie, I was kind of struggling to do so to be honest. Haven't seen F&R in years but now I'm thinking I should watch it again.
I didn't hate this movie, it honestly had a more serious tone to it, and it's nice to see more than just racing in the cars universe, cause there are so many different jobs for different vehicles, and fire and rescue is one of the more serious jobs
No dude sorry, but this movie was fantastic. Propaganda? Recruiting for local government jobs is propaganda seriously? Nah man, firefighters are absolute selfless heroes who dedicate their lives to saving others the least they deserve is a movie showing off how cool their vehicles are.
Realistically, you would need a ton of speed to actually pick up water from a waterfall and practically a rocket engine. If it were that simple we’d be at Mars by now.
Its not propaganda if its true. The firefighting in this movie is spot on , the whole forest on fire is also accurate when big parks catch fire it easily can create a wall of fire exactly like that where all you can see around you is fire. At the core of this movie it takes firefighting, and why firefighters do what they do as and the risks and sacrifices made by firefighters in pursuit of there jobs and not everyone returns home, but presents it in a way where most audiences can understand and is presented in a less confronting way. As Blade said "Life doesn't always go the way you expect it, but you came here to become a firefighter. If you give up today, think of all the lives you won't save tomorrow. So what are you going to do?'"
I thought it was obvious he wasn't quitting racing? I mean am I the only one who noticed that? As he said "Right now we need to get Propwash Junction open".
If anything this was better than planes movie tbh, like this is really good. Not propaganda, just a film about firefighting from an aerial vehicles perspective
It's crazy that the sequel to a middling spinoff to Cars is *this good* I remember watching this for the first time when I was younger and being like "That was a cool movie". I recently rewatched it and I unironically really love this movie
People like this more because the forest setting allows for much nicer animation. I had kids under 5 at the time, it was a pretty theater watch. And you complain about the lack of humor, but things like "CHoPS" and "Boat Reynolds" were good parent laughs, there were others like that too.
I don't care what anyone says, I love the plane movies. I know they're stupid. They are terrible movies, but I have a soft spot for anything automotive. Plus I'm pretty sure one of the rescue cars in the second one is a suzuki x90 which I used to own so...
The most unbelievable part of this movie is that adapater kits don't exist in this universe. Or at least something like it to allow him to get a slightly different kind of gearbox, and have it still work. Or, why can't they just pull out the whole engine and everything and give him a new one? We have heart transplants in real life.
interestingly doc hudson was inspired by a real kind of race car that was a non race car but modified. So doc technically could also have done the organ harvesting thing you have mentioned
I like this movie because my father was a paramedic, and his buddy, who saved his life, was a firefighter. They were on a wreck site, when some 18 wheeler comes barreling through, almost hitting my dad. At the last moment his friend pushed him out of the way. They found his body a hundred yards down the road
I think the issue with the ending is that Maru solving Dusty's "liver" essentially trivializes the plot. It makes you question that the Dusty's plot would've been resolved if Dusty was honest about his gearbox.
When I was younger and saw promos for this movie in cinemas, my brain never registered the fact that planes had a sequel. The idea of it still confuses me to this day.
When you talk about how poignant Mayday's delivery of 6:42 "I'm old, Dusty" was... it's true. The voice actor for Mayday, Hal Holbrook, passed away in 2021. He was 95. RIP
One think I actually kinda respect about this film is how it doesn't sugar coat the reality of being a fire fighter and shows just how dangerous it actually is. From the pictures of the planes who lost their lives, to seeing the damage Blade had received from the fire when he was protecting Dusty (we even get a close up of his paint bubbling up from the sheer heat), the fact that a Planes sequel actually has the guts to show the reality of being a firefighter is not what I was expecting
The joke is that the AT-802 "air-tractor" (the plane the MC based of) does have a firefighting variant with the same (wheeled) pontoons, and the paintjob he has at the end is almost identical to an existing one. There is a military (COIN/CAS plane) version of the 802 called the OA-1K, with weapons (10 hardpoints in total) and everything so .... there's your prequel chance.
If anything that’s why I like this one way more than the first. This one tried to do something different as opposed to the first with a main focus on racing like the Cars franchise. I like that this one did its own thing and succeeded. I wouldn’t call this movie great or anything. I definitely think Cars 1 and 3 are the best of the franchise. I think this is better than the first Planes and objectively better than Cars 2 despite me having lots of fun watching it. A way better movie than it gets credit for.
I always loved this movie for the one point in this where Dusty finally snaps in the woods. Always loved the lecture Blade gave him afterwords about life.
The goal of the villains in Cars 2 was to become powerful enough to be able to afford parts to keep running. It has been mentioned before. 10:30 I think that's a deer. 🦌 That would make more sense since it's in a National Part forest and it resembles vehicles from the John Deere company.
That doesn't track, all of the Lemons in Cars 2 are literally mob bosses and run multi million dollar industries they can literally afford armies of Goons, control multiple oil rings in the ocean, and are bale to rent and live in grand hotels and buildings Lord Axel rod the leader of the lemons is literally an ultra rich oil owner They all have money and lots of it, they aren’t hurting for money they just hate the fact they’re considered outdated and low tech
Watched this movie for the first time since it came out in 2014 the other day and I gotta say I'm really impressed with how well researched this movies feels. I wish I knew someone who had this movie on DVD because I would see a special feature where we see the team shows it's research process, how they applied this information to the cars world. There's just this underlying feeling of respect and admiration for the wildland firefighters career field which I really love and didn't really appreciate as a kid.
Pulaski. Its an axe with an adze on the other side of the head. Its used for wildland firefighting since it gives you an axe to chop stuff, and a adze to dig with. Think A Maddock, but with a full on axe head.
24:10 What's really crazy is this is EXACTLY what Dolly Parton did during the Gatlinburg (Chimney Tops) Wildfire. She paid off the city of Pigeon Forge to protect her property, Dollywood. She also hired outside help to essentially stand around, hoses at the ready, wasting valuable water. She took resources away from where it was needed and people died and were injured because of it. I was on the front lines of that unfortunate event. I'm actually kinda glad I don't live there anymore. Pigeon Forge is super corrupt. Dollywood was fine in the end while nearly everything around it burned to the ground with little exception.
This movie was my absolute childhood. And this, along with the prequel was the reason I grew to adore aviation in the first place. And re-watching this today, the message, the emotions, the suspense of particular scenes really stood out to me a whole lot more.
Well, this movie certainly got a lot of things right about the fire service: We can't afford anything, and use outdated equipment Our bases/stations are held together by Duct tape and bailing wire. It's (surprisingly) hard to get recruits, and small communities with volunteer departments are struggling, and mostly staffed by aging members. You only hear about the big fires and disasters. and selfish politicians and some property owners make our jobs harder by completely disregarding common sense. Always great working with the "flyboys" on wildland fires, see yall on the big one!
It must be said that a liver is a digestive organ, so describing Dusty's gearbox as a liver is foolish and uneducated. Therefore, his gearbox would be better suited as a bicep.
the dichotomy of them not being able to find a gearbox for a modern aircraft while the almost century old warbird works just fine is odd and amusing to me.
I actually loved this movie as a kid, the first one I didn’t really care much about, but I had a DVD version of the second one and I couldn’t stop rewatching it every day. I loved the thunderstruck scene despite not even knowing what AC DC was at the time, so when I heard the song again in the wild it brought me back some memories.
Being a firefighter must be one of the most heroic jobs ever. You literally jump into a fire to save souls that are in there. How could it be propaganda, we should even make these more often. Just because it has the sense of doing it for the better of the others. That doesnt correlate to propaganda. Im more tired with the absolute barbages about individualism
propaganda just means promoting something without recognizing the downsides to it. being a firefighter takes a toll on yourself and some people are not mentally prepared to do a job as demanding as that.
@@yeoldeseawitch But still if all you ever see are videos about influencers and their easy lavish life. Additionally, that is all you are going to get in these age of social media then who else would do the hard job or the job that builds and contribute to the foundation of society.
What is your language? I just want to understand the joke.
Damn explaining the funny can be weird and difficult
EDIT: Version I watched was polish, sorry, forgot to mention
@@kishel7 That sounds like the same thing in my country England, people used to say "Welp I've got to see a man about a dog" means the same thing o3o to avoid something.

I like how Blade's blades in the thumbnail are like a giant "X" over the "terrible" because it's not a terrible movie, nice effect. 😁
I thought it was an X at first 🤣
@@Go_Transit same here! 😆
Nah man, this movie is absolutely amazing
I know right
Propaganda for firefighters? What?
At face value being told as a child that crime is bad is propaganda and it’s the same with literally anything but we don’t use the word like that…
it’s deadass a waste of time to label everything as propaganda
My adult brother watched this movie and it inspired him to go to firefighting school
I loved Windlifter in this movie
This movie is probably why I love nature so much.
Dusty still wanted to race he became a firefighter for his town and one of his good friends
16:42 So Burt Reynolds exists in the Cars universe and he's *_not_* a Pontiac Firebird?
Puns gotta pun
They somehow didn't reference Jerry Reed as Snowman's rig for his hauler
Lmao
Pulaski is also a firefighting pun/joke as there is a a tool called a Pulaski (named after its creator)
And a bush jumper/ forestry firefighters tool at that
@@alphabravo424 this guy knows what’s up
As a fireman’s son, I can confirm AC/DC is the most accurate music they could have chosen
Actually the third movie was gonna take place in space
Thank goodness it was cancelled
I thought I had some ancient forbidden knowledge for knowing planes existed at all, and even I never knew this movie existed.
Oh my god. The birds being those little rubber-band propelled toy planes???? That's so good??!?!?!
Please cover the CANCELLED Planes 3, also known as Beyond The Sky.
The only thing I know about this movie is that it was originally going to be about space.
Well idk how he can cover that when there is such little information about it besides that small scene
Seeing living spaceships would be fun.
@@genericname2747Mater’s Tall Tales had an episode with a UFO and another about Mater going to the Moon on a living space shuttle.
I definitely know Dazz would make a Xenoblade joke with that kind of title.
“No life or death situations in cars”
Meanwhile cars 2…
This movie is a actually why I’m going into aerial firefighting as a career 😅 almost there
Good luck! I hope to salute you one day as I watch a red-bellied DC-10 roar fifty feet over my head at max throttle
Congrats!
they hook a deer* along the way, its a john deer tractor with antlers bro
That makes tons of sense why didn't I realize that
At that time of release, my dad (who used to work at Disney) explained to me why this sequel was made so instantly after the first one. It's because the filmmakers was so overly-confident in the first Planes that they assumed everyone was gonna love it (lol) so they greenlit a sequel. Then they realized the sequel was a mistake after the first was hated but still went forward with it.
I'm glad they still did.
I wouldn’t call it Propaganda, but it does feel like an advertisement for various fire departments.
Which is a good thing isn't it?
No dude sorry, but this movie was fantastic. Propaganda? Recruiting for local government jobs is propaganda seriously? Nah man, firefighters are absolute selfless heroes who dedicate their lives to saving others the least they deserve is a movie showing off how cool their vehicles are.
I agree.
Cringe
This! Every time he kept saying propaganda it kept pissing me off
I agree
@@Atari_collectorgive the phone back to your mommy
HOW DARE YOU THIS IS A CLASSIC
If anything this was better than planes movie tbh, like this is really good. Not propaganda, just a film about firefighting from an aerial vehicles perspective
It's crazy that the sequel to a middling spinoff to Cars is *this good*
I remember watching this for the first time when I was younger and being like "That was a cool movie".
Honestly you’d think the superintendent would go to prison for reckless endangerment after everything that happened
I don't care what anyone says, I love the plane movies. I know they're stupid. They are terrible movies, but I have a soft spot for anything automotive. Plus I'm pretty sure one of the rescue cars in the second one is a suzuki x90 which I used to own so...
It’s not terrible
The most unbelievable part of this movie is that adapater kits don't exist in this universe. Or at least something like it to allow him to get a slightly different kind of gearbox, and have it still work. Or, why can't they just pull out the whole engine and everything and give him a new one? We have heart transplants in real life.
I have memories with the plane movies and they were quite weird
The biggest issue with Planes 2 is that you need to watch Planes 1 first.
Doesn't that go for every sequel??
@@MS06R-2 yes but planes 1 is a miserable experience. Planes 2 is actually decent.
interestingly doc hudson was inspired by a real kind of race car that was a non race car but modified. So doc technically could also have done the organ harvesting thing you have mentioned
I mean that kind of describes the whole concept of stock car racing. If they were purpose-built vehicles, they’d look like Formula 1 cars.
@@mrviking2mcall212well modern stock cars are far from “stock” they are purpose built for racing but they are required to look “stock”
The crazy thing for this movie, is just how accurate some of the fire scenes are. Between the advice, and cinematography it's surprisingly well done
10:30 That ain’t a cow, that’s a deer… A John deer
He was 95.
RIP
😢😢😢
Planes was my childhood.
6:59 Easter egg
You can see Sarge
One think I actually kinda respect about this film is how it doesn't sugar coat the reality of being a fire fighter and shows just how dangerous it actually is. From the pictures of the planes who lost their lives, to seeing the damage Blade had received from the fire when he was protecting Dusty (we even get a close up of his paint bubbling up from the sheer heat), the fact that a Planes sequel actually has the guts to show the reality of being a firefighter is not what I was expecting
😪😪
30:53 honestly a fantastic point for sure. I would of loved if he stuck with the firefighter role fully
That doesn't track, all of the Lemons in Cars 2 are literally mob bosses and run multi million dollar industries
they can literally afford armies of Goons, control multiple oil rings in the ocean, and are bale to rent and live in grand hotels and buildings
Lord Axel rod the leader of the lemons is literally an ultra rich oil owner
They all have money and lots of it, they aren’t hurting for money
they just hate the fact they’re considered outdated and low tech
wouldve been amazing to me if they used black boxes as a means for him to give a final message after saving 2 cars in exchange of himself
Don’t you diss planes, it’s a classic of many of our childhoods
Watched this movie for the first time since it came out in 2014 the other day and I gotta say I'm really impressed with how well researched this movies feels. I wish I knew someone who had this movie on DVD because I would see a special feature where we see the team shows it's research process, how they applied this information to the cars world. There's just this underlying feeling of respect and admiration for the wildland firefighters career field which I really love and didn't really appreciate as a kid.
You would think the pontoons would inhibit his racing ability, like the sprayer which dusty had removed in the first movie
I’m just saying, I’m biased for liking the first movie because I share the same name with a comedic relief character
bros name is el chupacabra
@@themolasser9110 Other character lmao
Pulaski. Its an axe with an adze on the other side of the head. Its used for wildland firefighting since it gives you an axe to chop stuff, and a adze to dig with. Think A Maddock, but with a full on axe head.

What's really crazy is this is EXACTLY what Dolly Parton did during the Gatlinburg (Chimney Tops) Wildfire.
Dolly Parton doesn't own Dollywood. It's a licensing deal.
Planes 2 was a classic to my childhood, its what got me into planes.
I have to admit, I liked AND watched this way more than the first Planes
You know what, I'm going to say it
✋ *Absolute Cinema* 🤚
This movie was my absolute childhood. And this, along with the prequel was the reason I grew to adore aviation in the first place. And re-watching this today, the message, the emotions, the suspense of particular scenes really stood out to me a whole lot more.
Wait so how does the world war 2 f4u have a functioning gearbox but this modern plane can’t find one
Well, this movie certainly got a lot of things right about the fire service:
We can't afford anything, and use outdated equipment
Our bases/stations are held together by Duct tape and bailing wire.
I used to be a fan of planes when i was 3 - 4 I even had a sleeping bag of it
It must be said that a liver is a digestive organ, so describing Dusty's gearbox as a liver is foolish and uneducated. Therefore, his gearbox would be better suited as a bicep.
Technically, the "Cow" that they hooked was a "John Deere" tractor which resembled a deer.
They better have put the correct number of engines on that A380 at 1:16. Twin engine A380’s live in my nightmares
the firefighting sequel was 10 times better
the dichotomy of them not being able to find a gearbox for a modern aircraft while the almost century old warbird works just fine is odd and amusing to me.
I don't remember him going back to racing after all of this. I guess that's how bad that part was
I actually loved this movie as a kid, the first one I didn’t really care much about, but I had a DVD version of the second one and I couldn’t stop rewatching it every day.
