    Just bought Ryobi 18v station one today. It has already come in so handy. I used it to help remove rusty rear windscreen moulding clips off my 1971 valiant hardtop

    I know first hand the importance of matching the rod caps with the rods.
    I rebuilt a 1966 Dodge 318 engine back in 1975. When putting it back together I started putting the rods in, matching the numbers stamped on the caps with the correct pistons. After it was all back together, the engine would not turn over either with the starter or by trying to push start it.
    When I removed the oil pan, I discovered what I did wrong; when I put in the rod and cap for cylinder 3, I incorrectly used cap 8. The stamping was slightly bent so it looked like a 3 but it was actually an 8.
    By the time I got to the last rod, (number 8) there was only 1 cap left so I didn't even check the number, which was actually stamped 3.
    Swapping the two rod caps was enough to lock up my engine.
    By the way, nice video. Liked and Subscribed.

      It's been 2 years but I think he talks about rods and bearings. See the piston and rod on his bench.
      Either that or I replied to the wrong video.

    I owned the Ryobi shown in this video, as well as a Dremel (without the shaft) and a Craftsman Rotary Tool, that sold at Sears in 1987, which again doesn't have the shaft drive on it. Between the three units I own the Sears Rotary Tool is probably the most powerful and way more used to the three!! And while I do use my actual Dremel, for certain projects like heavy sanding applications, I find the Ryobi is a bit under powered of the three!! But that is sort of why I bought it though! Because the main use of the Ryobi, which is the only one I own that has the shaft drive on it, I bought to do work with electronics where I need to get into tight spaces and work with more delicate parts!!

    That was a seriously thorough review! Very helpful!
    I need a review of that Ryobi with the flex shaft vs the Ryobi where the motor is in the hand tool itself.

    • @legallyfree2955
      @legallyfree2955 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a flex shaft and a rotary tool of the type where the battery and motor is all in the tool, the narrower handle of the flex shaft is a lot more comfortable to hold for a long time sitting down polishing something, the all in one tool is a lot less cumbersome if your walking around and doing things here and there especially if its in a position where you would have to hold the motor base in one hand and the tool in the other like if your standing up outside. It depends what you see yourself doing most as to what would be most suitable, or you could splash out, buy both, and use the most suitable for the situation like I did.

    • @legallyfree2955
      @legallyfree2955 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@badgermcbadger1968 Not for the two I happen to have, the corded one without the flex shaft is more powerful, but they are totally different brands I know you can get powerful flex shaft ones if you want, Dremel makes a hang up one that is supposed to be powerful and you also have Foredom's unit if power is a concern. Both of mine are adequately powerful though.

    Wish the Ryobi was a hybrid, allowing for 120v plug in. I use all tool brands, as no company makes the best of everything. These Milwaukee fan boys are too much. You know it's the same China parent company don't you? Ya ryobi is diy level but they make some stuff that others just don't. Get over it. M12 is heavy and bulky/thick for detail work.

    • @dangerous8333
      @dangerous8333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lmfao 😂
      Milwaukee = Professional grade tools.
      Ryobi = Occasional use.
      You can split hairs however you want but I think it's you that needs to get over it...or just simply accept it.
      I'm a Milwaukee fan, and if I need a tool that will get used often and hard, I'm not buying Ryobi. But I am buying this rotary tool from Ryobi, because it will be for occasional use and checks all the boxes.
      But I can still be honest about things.

    Dremel is a ubiquitous name for same products, same as "sawzall" and "skilsaw" because Milwaukee and Skil were the first manufacturers of these tools.
    Seems like this was basically a shill video for Ryobi. Although you did say they both were good tools, you didn't really give a true side by side comparison, ie., the Ryobi with the cutting wheel and the Dremel with the cutting wheel to see which one cut faster than the other, ect.
    Other than that, a good review of the Ryobi tool.

      could be an option later(?) with a simple plugin dongle to connect a wireless foot pedal.
      Personally I prefer a cord (and a shielded one at that -if I only had to choose one) since I occasionally seem to get some EM interference that makes wireless devices act .....odd.
      Never really sure if it's a byproduct of government/military testing (rather large installation in the region) - or some engineer goofing around on their own time.

      The point is to be portable... this isn't a hard concept. Lmao. If it didn't have the "cord" it would be a massively thick unit that wouldn't be good for detail work. It also wouldn't make sense for the one+ 18v battery.

      You really do have a problem with comprehension.
      He's not comparing it to a corded one. He's comparing it to the other cordless ones. That's what makes them "portable".
      What you describe after that is "maneuverability". No one is discussing maneuverability.
      Not everyone needs to get their hand into weird locations so the maneuverable part isn't as important as the portable part.

    Sorry but you left out the number one real rotary tool which is the Foredom rotary tool which Dremel tried real hard to copy especially the head change feature. These are tools with 1/6th to 1/3 horse power motors able to use 1/4" drive die grinder accessories.

    I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.

  • @TheDickDangler

    Obviously a biased review since Ryobi sent you all some free gear. . . Why not just give the correct and accurate numbers?? You try saying the Ryobi runs faster at 25,000 rpm and you say the Dremel runs at two thousand rpm slower at 23,000 rpm, the action number for the Dremel is 35,000 rpm.. variable speed. . . Zero to thirty five thousand rpm. I guess that would have blown the Ryobi's numbers out of the water but it's battery powered and the Dremel isn't. . . It's not fair to compare

  • @BluetoothBlades

    Is there a 110v adapter that plugs into the battery compartment available for this rotary tool ? That would be a HUGE selling point for Ryobi.

    I like what you do, but I’m only looking for facts, performance, and your final thoughts. You ramble quite a bit which makes the videos unnecessarily longer. Not trying to be negative, just constructive criticism if you will. The side stories and all could be cut out to make this just about the tools and comparisons. Kindest regards and I hope you take it in a positive way, as intended. Keep up the great work my friend.
