  • Henry Ford's empire demanded that any given part built at any other factory could interchange without issue. He turned to Carl Johansson and his gauges to ensure that production tolerances were uniform worldwide. Johansson revolutionized the way things were measured to such an exacting degree that he was the standard of the world when it came to dimensions for almost a century. Find out how Henry Ford brought Johansson into the Ford Motor Company to ensure the security of accuracy.

That is really quite impressive. Production line tolerances tend to creep in unless kept to a set standard.
And that was a phenomenal achievement back then.

Ford was very proud of having Johansson a part of his company and it is clear why. Thanks for watching!

Can't find a complete set of these and going rate (as an antique) I suppose, but those prices from 90 or so years ago ARE STEEP. But, I suppose if you need to have them, you have to pay. I did find Mitutoyo Gage Block Sets for 6740.50 and 4839.20. That's the company that makes expensive calipers, that Harbor Freight clones the look of and sells for 20 bucks.

2 millionths of an inch? That's an argument for Merika to use the metric system if nothing else.
