I remember when I first got the game, I knew the reputation the .725 had and I decided it would be good idea to grind to get all the camos for it first and then never touch it again. I heard more slurs in those 4 months of grinding than I probably will probably end up hearing during the rest of my life.

To be fair, shotguns in real life usually have better range and accuracy than depicted in games, so a shotgun with a tighter spread, while unbalanced, is technically more realistic

Exactly! The only game that does this intentionally that I know of is Escape From Tarkov, but this cod is very unrealistic due to none of the games having actual viable armor that makes sense.
Taking 5 9mm's to the dome from an mp5 is realistic too I love the realism in call of duty

That version is 100% nerfed in core. I was getting 3 to 4 shot kills at range. 2 shot if I was getting both in the head.

@@parkyt13 That's because Raven accidentally increased MP health from 100 to 150 at least twice now because they wanted to make changes to WZ, which runs on the same spaghetti code as MW. Idk if it's still that way rn tho

back then I played Cod Mobile and they also added the the 725. To prevent it from becoming the most broken weapon in the game, they literally removed the entire Barrel section for this particular gun. It was still broken lol

Balancing in video games pertaining to shotguns has always been interesting and often funny to me. Especially the reaction by the gaming community. Because in real life, 18 meters or roughly 20 yards, or at 60 feet, a shotgun is more than lethal enough to kill an individual. For a game that is (sorta) based in realism, it makes more than enough sense.
yeah well the bullshit comes if they're too powerful, so you gotta nerf them enough so that they can still be used while not being a point and click adventure, so in game balance the sensible option is to make them powerful at short ranges and weak when the target is farther away

In real life a bullet from an ar or smg would be enough to subdue and enemy tho. When people want realism in cod its usually movement graphics and sound not the actual gameplay which has nothing to do with real life
Yeah, but the spread of buckshot at 20 yards is like 8 inches, not 4 feet like it is in cod if they're gonna have any sort of range, they need to balance it by making them have way less spread than they do.

I once did a "pirate" type pistol with that shotgun. I used the tiny version with slugs and sometimes sniper scope

I kind of hate it when people say that shotguns require zero skill to use. Like is running around mach 2, out maneuvering your opponents while still landing shots that kill is pretty dang hard especially if you’re one to accidentally overaim your gun. Or just having to outright out damage the other players with slow shooting guns. Shotguns are the type of weapons that work well except for when they don’t, it’s either a confirmed kill for everyshot or your dead before you can shoot again.
Russian Badger had the right idea of saying it's volatile: higher highs, lower lows. That and there's a reason why that one operator from R6S says that one quote "Prone gets you home. There's a reason why nothing rhymes with 'rushing in like an @$$hole'."

In a game where you can be shot several times and just magically gain health by sitting in cover, i dont think cod really cares about realism at all.

When I used to play MW I used the 3rd 725 as it felt so fun and rewarding when I was getting like 10 kills in a small amount of time.
Also I always used the 725 and I never once got someone saying I was a rat or something

There is a hidden 4th way to use the 725, it is a forbidden technique that only the most insane of players will ever use. And that is...
The Short Slug 725. The gun still can one-shot at far ranges, but has the distinct disadvantage of added RNG to the shot. Sometimes missing because the game chose to hate you. But it is okay, you still got that sick shot anyways. And the hate-mail is priceless with this version of the 725

Man imagine that, shotgun shells not just disappearing after 10ft. Who woulda guessed that on all these CQC maps that are about all cod has, a shotgun might be a half decent idea
I didn't play this game when it came out (I first started playing it just very recently in April 2023), but I vividly remember one day in school, right after this game had launched, every one of my classmates and SCHOOL TEACHERS in math class were ranting about how broken this shotgun was. It was the first time I had ever heard not just someone, but a massive group of people including a SCHOOL TEACHER, talk about weapon balancing in a game. It absolutely blew my mind and I didn't even have to play the game or see gameplay of the gun to realize just how broken it was
I think possibly the 3rd 725 class inspired the shorty in codm. They look very similar

Yeah honestly. That's why they are used to hunt birds; lots of pellets make the moving target easy to hit, long barrel gives you lots of range. If all of the guns in call of duty were realistic everyone would be complaining.
The ranges on most 6v6 maps are typically within optimal range for most shotguns irl. It's funny seeing the 725 so hated when it's SUPPOSED to be the long range shotgun. Sure it's been nerfed but those first few months were stupid fun on ground war!

I use the close range one but on in a way you'd expect. I actually reduce the speed, give it some range, and pair it with a SCAR. Its basically a pistol that one shots.
Disclaimer: I am not defending shotguns here, though I am an avid shotgun lover. All players be advised.
If you are taking many players logic into consideration (shotguns are op and require no skill bc they can one shot up close) couldn't the same be said about snipers? I understand that sniping is way more than a mere point and click adventure, mostly because I am a sniper, but the same goes for shotguns in my eyes. Shotguns require map knowledge and good movement to succeed with such a short range and snipers require map knowledge and good movement to make use of a weapon suited for long range in a close ranged environment. Just think about it for a second before calling me a shotgunning douche who can't hit shots. I've been a sniper too, so I of all people know how the cookie crumbles on a missed shot on both sides of the spectrum and everything in between.
The inclusion of overkill kinda makes that point mute when you can just run an AR for every other scenario & quickly swap over when your in a tight building.
Personally I liked the way mw's realism mode fixed the issue by allowing automatics to 1 or 2 tap in the head at any range. Actually lets you punish shotgun & snipers if your quick & accurate but still makes them useful unlike hardcore where everything 1 or 2 taps anywhere so why wouldn't u use automatics which give you huge room for error if you miss a shot by comparison.
@@Nu11nV0iD9 I'm kind of surprised that the first reply wasn't shouting at me. But as for your argument, I pretty much agree with what you said. Whether it's a shotgun or sniper, being able to switch to an automatic gun on the fly with Overkill definitely makes running either class less punishing.
As for realism mode, I haven't really seen much of what you are saying, but I can see shotgun players being punished for brainlessly rushing. As for snipers, the argument can change depending on the player you are up against. If the sniper is pushing everything really aggressively, he would definitely be easy to punish. A camper however would definitely have an easier time compared to the shotgun or aggressive sniper simply because of shock factor.
Shotguns eliminated an entire mechanic from the game (aim) so a good movement player has less variables to worry about and same is for bad players it allows them to get kills they may not have gotten with a sniper. Not to mention the long as bolt time on some of the snipers in mw2019
And map knowledge is not very necessary when you can just run and one shot everyone or even just camp a corner and objective which arguably suits the weapon better then a really aggressive play style
@@NaX564 Again, snipers and shotguns are on different sides of the spectrum. Snipers have fantastic range, so good map knowledge and movement can help them find angles that benefits their long range. As for your camping point, snipers were technically made for long ranged encounters, so camping benefits snipers as much, if not more, than shotguns.

dont understand the concept of op weapons like a 50 cal should and will kill you in 1 hit a shotgun should kill you in close quater combat they both should shred they might be op but they should have downsides that isnt making it do less damage because then the gun loses its purpose and some shotguns in irl have a insane amount of reach it just depends on the ammo
it does have downsides. either bad mobility or bad range, added with the fact it has 2 shots. people will play shipment or shoothouse and complain about shotguns

I feel like that while you throw range out of the Burj Khalifa, the speed gives you a great advantage as you can shoot one shot, slide/jump towards enemy and get 2nd shot kill

Probably my favorite loadout for the 725 is sawed-off barrel, sawed-off stock, slugs, tac laser, and sniper scope. It was funny running around cross-mapping people with a gun the same size as its scope. And the best thing is that 90% of the time people didn't realize that I was using slugs so I got tons of hacking accusations as they thought that I'm hacking with regular ammo.
Hopefully MW22 is a good game since infinity ward are developing it. We better have gun balance

If they kept the "broken shotguns" and left them all at that power level, they would feel natural to the speed of the game. vs other weapons that dominated their classes alike said 1887's. Making the other lower powered shotguns actually "better" the class as a whole would have been useful or interesting today.

factually, the .725 is actually pretty accurate to a real shotgun, only in the range stats. shotguns do actually deal high amounts of damage from long distances, granted its a game so it needs to be balanced, it is in fact how a double barrel works, this is my knowledge that i have gained from having my own double barrel over under such as the .725

Im actually not suprised about the 725 being the most op gun when mw 2019 released because this shotgun was HIGHLY accurate to real shotguns, they literally nerfed shotguns in real life because they were to good, the shotguns we had before were literally snipers with a crap ton of range, the damage was HUMMUNGUS and so they basically nerfed these to the ground :/ But i actually had fun playing with the 725 tho :) (Yall gonna hate me for that)
Shorty with slugs is the absolute best. Headshotting snipers from 40 meters having them pissed. Still my favorite way to load it out.

Shotguns have always been the most hated weapons in game but for them to have a medium to short range by default while being a 1 shot literally make sense. They continue to nerf them to be a 2-3 shot and then you run into Warzone where you use a double barrel, it doesn't kill CLOSE RANGE and then you're like "well. I'm fucked."

Although it is a small fraction of its original power the Lockwood 300 in MW2 is a certain beast when in hardcore, to the point where you can get a one shot kill with a suppressor tacked on. It just hits different to run around the map using a one shot suppressed weapon.
But with the speed nerf it leaves much of the MW running to be desired

I rarely use shotguns in cod, i usually just run sidearms for fun, but i never understood why people claim that shotguns don't require skill in contrast to like their 60-100 round smg/AR with a shit ton of attachments, you don't even get to feel the recoil. Like, the people who i've heard complain the most are people who run meta, some who run shield and that shit, and in of itself, meta is designed/thought to be the absolute winner of every situation, better than any other guns, it feels like the ones that cry out the most are the people that dislike when their godly weapon gets somehow destroyed. then again i'm not someone who has played lots of Call of duty games, all i ever played is 2019 and i'm mainly a battlefield player. (lately tho i transitioned to games like rising storm 2)

Shotguns in real life have a lethal range of 37 to 50 meters, depending on shot size. Buckshot (which is what's mostly used in game) travels farther and faster than 9 shot, but the way these games work you're shooting 9 shot anyway.

I played this game a lot at launch and when I found out the magnum had snake shots I tried it out before they became meta and before duel wield was a thing for secondaries and using it in hardcore got me way too many jugs, AC130s, and Chopper gunners and would join my friends mid game just to pwnd them with it and IMO beat the .725 in it's lifetime it was even more broken than the sniper/shotgun from IW. Just not many people used it at launch and probably was a good thing.
I’d argue that automatic rifles with very short kill times take less skill than a short shotgun that demands you get right in someone’s face to kill them.
The akimbo double barrel in modern warfare remastered is OP used to have mad fun running and gunning the rage was music to my ears lol

Im happy you said slug, I think my best moment with a shotgun on this game was with my VLK sniper build and I head shot someone that was using an actual sniper across map on snd, the slug drop was terrible and he was far away and moving, I can’t tell if it was skill or luck but I have a short clip of it if anyone cares to see
