As Vinnie explained in another comment and I wrote in the description of the vid, when this episode was aired in Holland they replaced "It's a wonderful world" with some other song. And this is the song that Vinnie Gijsbers asked about - as I found out it's "Losing You" by Terry Devine-King. This is the modern song that Don refers to and NOT Who Knows Where the Time Goes which indeed was sung by Judy Collins and actually is at the end of the episode.
Wow, it seems it's a modern song made to (successfully) imitate the late 60s soul style, who would have known! It has a similar rhythm and tune to a a song from The Temptations called "I've passed this was before."
Most probably It's a Wonderful World isn't licensed for your country too. If you have the episode recorded you could try to find it on Shazam. I'm sorry, I can't think of anything else. I found out what the Dutch replacement song was in a Dutch forum about TV programmes.
This is not a modern song in the sense you mean. it was sung in the 60s by Judy Collins, although I'm not sure she wrote it. I learned it from her "Clouds" album. You must be quite young, Don, to think this version is "imitating" the late 60s. Judy Collins sang it much more as a straight folk ballad, with more melody and less chord modulation. Absolutely haunting in its ORIGINAL 60s version.

I am desperate to know what the song is called that plays just before they come across the adopted baby's mother on the beach. It's instrumental only and so there are no lyrics that I can use to search with, as I normally do to find out song titles. It's played from just after they leave the house she shares with her friend that worked at the baby home, until just after they find the real mother for the first time at the beach. If anyone can put me out of my misery I would be soooooooooo grateful. :)
