  • Diet and exercise methods come and go, and some can be pretty popular, but no no one-size-fits-all approaches work well for everyone.
It's not because "everyone is different" because we all fundamentally work the same way; it's because fitness is more about personal economics than physical science.
The most effective diet and exercise methods for you aren't what's just scientifically valid, but are the easiest ways for you to influence the fundamental process of Mother and Human Nature. And that's going to be different for everyone.

Hey Matt: Not your target demographic here as a 67 year old woman with pelvic floor disfunction, osteopenia, and noodle arms :) however I've recently read Oppositional Isometrics along with Be Fit Live Free. I've never been able to convince myself to drive 30 minutes each way to go to the gym, but doing isometrics works really well in my rural area. I can do the hip work while making coffee in the morning, and work in the others during the day as I go about life. I'm tall enough to palm my kitchen doorway, so calf raises and most of the shoulder work is very easy to integrate. One funny thing is as a gardener, lunge position is my standard get up and down position so that's easy with straps; squats not so much. I've been having to work on the coordination for that one. The biggest thing I've noticed is being able to sleep at night. I'm pretty energetic, and work carrying water and feed to horses and chickens, digging in the garden, etc., but at night would still be a little wired so restless sleeping. Going through all the muscle chains leaves my so relaxed I sleep like a rock, which is pretty amazing.
An observation I've been mulling is that almost all the farmer/ranchers I know are pretty "stove up" after years of labor in the outdoors. I'd guess it's from years of compensation where getting the job done (moving the weight) was more important than good form. Stack enough hay for 40 years with bad form, and yeah, you'll have a bad back or a torn up shoulder. Anyway, thanks for the books, they have been helpful.

I built one of your DIY straps a while back, with the cam buckles and everything. It was very inexpensive and not too difficult. But I finally caved and bought the nossk twin straps because the adjustability is SO much easier than the handmade one. I found myself gradually not feeling like fiddling with the adjustments on my handmade one and skipping out. I need things to be as easy as possible to get going if I want to stay in motion. My only gripe is I specifically ordered black, and got hot pink 😂

The Red Delta Project and Hybrid Calisthenics are my favourite fitness philosophy channels. They speak simple but with evergreen style.
