This is literally the first time I've ever understood counter steering. Thank you for the video. Very much appreciated 👍
Same here, came from another video of one not using countersteering at high speeds, he ended up hitting a truck.
You've always known it you just didn't know you were doing it
worthlessdollar1 agreed, I thought I was wrong on what counter steering was. When I told a friend he looked at me like I was stupid. After watching countless video including this one which actually explained it more in-depth without any ambiguity. I knew I was right.
Finally....
I learnt counter steering on this video.
It will save my life one day, thank you cruza.
When i ride at highspeed and there's a turn i would slow down because its hard to turn.
I tried the same with counter steering and damn, i dont need to slow down anymore.
Counter steering is very useful.
@@grahamreeve673 Thats somewhat true i always do the same with a bicycle, but i just dont know that i have been doing it.
Back when i was more young, i thought riding a motorcycle would be the same as a bicycle.
So i tried to ride the same in low speeds, but it doesnt turn.
Since i always ride quite slow, i use the same normal steering you would on a slow motorcycle.
Since i learned counter steering i keep on riding much more and faster now.
Damn, it feels good.
Now i know how to steer properly.

can confirm, went riding after this vid and tested this theory and results are exactly the same as cycle cruzas, its rather amazing!
Sure, it's simple. But keep in mind that pressing forward on the left bar turns the wheel to the right. That cause the bike to lean left. Turn right to go left; that's why they call it counter steering.
Many years back when my daughter first started riding a motorbike, I explained to her this simple logic, look right (keep head vertical and look to where you want to be if you look at the guard rail then thats where your bike will go so look at the place you want to be), lean body right, push right, bike goes down on right, bike turns right, then I took her to the streets and had her practice it and understand it. I explained to her the more you lean your body the more tighter and faster you can take a turn because you keep the tire contact patch on the road, I got her to the point where its a natural movement and she can flick the bike to avoid a pot hole etc and Ive seen how quick she can do it as we ride together quite often.
Legend has it he's still pressing forward on the bar.
I went to a school today and practiced. This helped me so much today. I haven't been on a bike in years so naturally I went out and got the biggest heaviest bike I could find.

Just learned this technique yesterday and it's simply amazing. I was making sharp turns in a parking lot very easily. I'm a new rider and this technique gives you more confidence in cornering.

When I did my basic rider course a few weeks ago they said press down and they showed the motion going down. However after trying it out on my R1 pressing forward like you are doing is much more effective.

Good description of the whole process!Been off motorcycles for 40 years but been a lifetime road and mountain bicycle rider and countersteering comes naturally on bicycles at high speed.Watching your motovlog inspired me to get back on motorcycles, took and passed the MSF course, being a bicycle guy made the dreaded slow figure-8 easy for me, enjoyed the turn exercises on the range and whipped through them banking at speed, impressed the young guys(I'm 62 YO) that an old coot could do that with no fear.

I'm so glad you made an entire video to clarify this. I'm a very new rider and it was so confusing during the rider's safety course that after I passed I felt the need to continue practicing safely within my own community so I'm not ready to hit the real roads just yet. CycleCruza, you are forgiven for saying "pushing down". Your correction and explanation were very helpful to me, because you were so specific. Most other sources, manuals and videos included, are VAGUE. So what started out as an error ended up as the clearest and most lucid demo of countersteering (shown on video with verbal explanation) I have seen and heard anywhere - and I have watched and read dozens and dozens. On many other videos it indeed looks like pushing down. This is the best explanation and demonstration counter steering video i have ever seen. I have watched many videos about this topic even in my mother language but i was confused all the time. My english is not okay but this video is totally perfect to me. Thank you so much.

In 49 years of riding I never had to think about it never even heard of it till I saw it come up on you tube guess it just comes natural to me.
Great video for less experienced riders. I started riding dirt bikes in the mid '70's and just figured this stuff out over time.

It's a small detail, foward or down, but makes all the difference for newbies ! I swear the equivalent of the DMV here (Quebec) and even in my the classes and on field they either don't specify it or say push downwards. Thank you for making it crystal clear, going on the road for the first time this week and this brings alot of confidence.

I had a hard time understanding the countersteering thing until I saw you pushing with one finger and actually looking down at the handlebar. Thanks for the video I understand now.

I remember when i was a bicycle loving kid, i used to do some good leanings and making full circles in front of my house, it was fun. but when me and my familly moved, i just stopped... Now i'm 22 and i'm really starting to miss the days i'd ride a 2 wheeler and honestly you awesome Bikers out there just inspired me to become a motorcyclist and i can't wait to start practicing on a dirt bike and when i'm ready, i'll get myself an R3 for the road. Of course i know being a biker isn't something to take lightly and i have no attention to rush, i'll make sure it'll all work out, and my father could teach me some of the easy mechanical stuff to do on them like oil change and cleaning(i still live with my parents).

I'm always confused by people explaining this. It's sort of intuitive because that's just the way it is! The bike has to move like that but I suppose it could be screwed up. As soon as I have to think about it then it gets weird. This video did a good job of explaining though.

Countersteering and lower body handle the motorcycle. Countersteering is the easier way to faster speed, but our lower body handle bike too.
