    Omega One flakes, shrimp pellets, & veggie rounds (for the ingredients), Fluval Bug Bites (for the ingredients), San Francisco Bay Brand freeze dried mysis shrimp, blood worms, & krill (as crushed up treats), SFBB and OO frozen blood worms, brine/mysis shrimp and emerald entree (to add variety during the week). I tend to purchase local, either M&P or big box. Yes, variety IS the spice of fish life!

    I think people sleep on Tetra foods because of their move into big box pet stores in the 2000's but they make good foods, and many of them are made in Germany. I worked many years in a shop and we fed a lot of foods, but the Tetra color granules were a constant over the years (and I fed it to everything). I crush it up to a finer granule/powder for juvenile rainbows and they love it, in addition to BBS of course.

    Can you do a new video on a community tank? Maybe some kind of all in one food
    Cherry shrimp, pigmy Cory’s, danio fish species, guppies, tetras and Otto’s and mystery snails. It can be rough feeding multiple foods for multiple fish. I’m thinking about grinding up flakes and hikari algae wafers with some fluval bug bites and feeding that all at once. I would love your output ❤

    I was excited to try the Extreme krill flake food but most of my fish won't touch it. The angels, dwarf rainbow's, silver tip tetras hate it. The guppies eat it but they pretty much eat anything. I personally have success with fluval bug bites, cobalts nano pellet and tetra color flake as far as dry food goes. I'll have to try some you covered in the video. Thank's Bentley!

    Nice video, I personally love a good quality Chinese buffet lol. My fish are fed a buffet of fish food as well, their favorite is Ocean Nutritions brine shrimp flakes despite of other more pricey food. My mix is 50% brine shrimp flake, 10% small bug bites, 10% sprirulina20, 10% freeze-dried blood worms, 10% Ocean nut discus flakes, 5% seachem chlorella flakes and 5% tetra granules. Bottom feeders get tropical algae wafers/NLS wafers/ocean nutrition algae wafers/hikari sinking wafers/cobalt shrimp pellets. The severums get hikari cichlid gold/freeze dried mealworms and a scoop of the buffet. Once a month I make repashy because im lazy and all fish get hikari frozen cube blood worm/daphnia and sally's brine shrimp after water changes. I also give them san Francisco bay brand freeze dried food assortment and sera o nip for treat. I also have a big can of Wardley goldfish flakes that I use for fishless cycles and is a favorite of my lone molly- go figure huh.

I also use Hikari tubifex worms, and brine shrimp as supplement with sera o nip and tetra crisps and fluval cichild bug bites for the bigger fish. Nice vid, very informative. I was very surprised when I tried the Tetra Color Granules a few months ago. I had been feeding a mix of frozen, hikari dry, and a few others. The consistent growth and healthy look after using Tetra color consistently made me a believer. I still give them a variety, but the mainstay is now Tetra Color. EDIT: Having said that, I think I'm going to try a couple of the foods you mentioned that I haven't tried yet, especially the pleco/cory stuff.

    My fish LOVE Tetra Color flakes! Sometimes I think they prefer it to frozen foods lol. I keep guppies and as you know they are little piggies. I can't get food down to my cories so I feed them bug bites pleco. It sinks quickly and they really like it. The food my fish like the most it repashy. They go NUTS when I feed it. I got my first pleco two weeks ago and she loves repashy bottom scratcher. I pour it over driftwood and she goes to town lol. We feed very similar stuff. It makes me feel good because I'm new to the hobby and I wasn't sure I was feeding right. But I know you know what you're doing so thank you so much for sharing what you feed.

    For medicated fish food I used ron’s Cichlids medicated fish food. It’s really good stuff. It’s not something that you can just give your fish. You have to prepare it and then you also have to refrigerate it, but it was great and it worked……I also use brain shrimp regularly … then I get really crazy and I mix up in a coffee grinder chlorella powder, sara fry food, rice bran, sera Immune pro, Black Soldier Fly Larvae. The reason I do this in the coffee grinder is because I put these in my auto feeders for all of my fish tanks. Black Soldier Fly Larvae has a lot of oil so you do need to add more of the algae powder and I also have been known to throw in dried egg shells to absorb some of the oils so they don’t clump up so much and then of course the other fish foods help…..anyone reading this probably thinks I am completely insane, but this is really good fish food and fish Love it, it’s really super cheap believe it or not…..

    Great video with excellent information. I use Hikari mainly for Betta and Community pellets not because it is sometimes cheaper but because I've always used it. I tried some Omega One Veggie wafers and the shrimp seemed to like them but not my otos. They also seemed to spike my nitrate levels where the Hikari never did.

    Based on the ingredients, I've recently moved away from Tetra and Hikari which I've used for years in favor of Northfin and Aquatic Foods Inc.
    For instance, the top ingredients in Tetra Flakes are Fish Meal, Dried Yeast, Ground Brown Rice, Shrimp Meal, Wheat Gluten, Oat Meal, Fish Oil, Potato Protein, Dehulled Soybean Meal, and Soybean Oil.
    In Northfin Cichlid they are Whole Antarctic Krill Meal, High Omega-3 (DHA) Herring Meal, Whole Sardine Meal, Wheat Flour, Kelp, Spirulina, Garlic.

    There is one brand of flakes i dislike and its not because of the ingredients its the thickness of the flakes, its Omega One they make their flakes so thin they crumble up into a powder, my fish try to eat them but there's only so many crumbs they could eat before they sink to the bottom and dirty up the tank.

    Bentley, please explain your dislike for Wardley. I don’t feed Wardley, just curious why you feel it is so bad. Tropical is good food, so is Repashy. Dr Bassleer and Ebo Aquaristik are by far the best around for my hypancistrus. Northfin is great for cichlids and does live up to the hype.

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wardley has for a long time, unless this has changed, been more fillers than anything else and using too much non-animal (aka soy) proteins.

    I love NORTHFIN! The co-op food is great when you have nano fish. The only downside to the co-op food is that the smallest bits might not be eaten. Would you agree that in general flake have more binder than granules?

  • @aceaquatics2596

    I have a very off topic question.
    I have a water box 10 and I want to carpet the bottom.
    My substrate is fluval stratum and my fertilizer is easy green for for the other plants.
    My question is would the finnex FugeRay planted+ clip on, be adequate lighting to carpet Montecarlo or dwarf baby tears or even dwarf hair grass?
    You seem to know your way around plants judging by your rewards😂
    Thanks a lot.

    • @BentleyPascoe
      @BentleyPascoe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know the specific lumen or par on the planted clip light, but I think if you're going the level of a waterbox aquarium, I would spend the extra bit to get the Fluval Nano. Yes it's about $40 more, but you get more control, lumen, and the various functions in the app that just make it much nicer for something like a high-grade rimless aquarium. Dwarf baby tears needs a LOT of light to carpet well, monte carlo not as much, but still prefers good light to get a solid carpet - so I would be letting the plant choice dictate my light. Just my two cents on this one.

    I prefer NLS community pellet. My fish on the other hand, clearly prefer Bugbites and Aquarium Co-Op Fry food. Just bought some Sera flakes, haven't tried it yet. I feed many of NLS and Omega One lines. I don't think I feed Hikari anymore. Expanding into all the Bugbites flavors and maybe try Repashy one of these days. I'm hoping Cory is able to make a bigger pellet of his fry food. Every tank gets at least two foods at a single feeding. Sometimes three or for!

      Skip the Rephasy, it's a huge mess. I liked what I read about it so I ordered a decent sized tub of it. I saved the trays my frozen food comes in so I mixed up the Rephasy per the instructions and placed in the empty trays so I had a size to judge how much I'm feeding. I fed 3 different tanks all with the same results. I am filtering over 10 times tank size every hour with huge canister filters from Fluval and Sunsun. The food broke apart almost instantly into such tiny pieces the fish didn't really bother with it. It clouded the water up for a good hour, even with my crazy filtration. The fish ranged from community Rainbows, Tetras, Loaches to all types of African Cichlids. I have some blue acara fry I might see if they will take to it. As soon as it did this I thought I must have ordered a fry food by mistake, but I didn't. The food itself is made with good stuff, maybe I did something wrong but I don't believe this is the case as many others have had the same results. If someone is close to Mount Airy, NC and you want it, stop by and it's yours, I bought a large size like I do for all my foods. Later

    A question for you : rainbows fry, I feed the first two weeks sera micron and after that a powder that's an Artemia replacement. Tiny bloodworms they go nuts for when they are as big as the little bloodworm. After that it's a Rainbowfish so everything that fits their mouths. I bought some Sera O' Nip Tabs and not one of my fish, whether the Corydoras or Panda Garras or any other of my fish will eat it. Same goes for the Rapashi, most of them will not touch it.

    You should try Kens Ultra Intense Spirulina. My Limias and Swords and guppies love itt. Only like eight bucks a pound too, for two 8oz bags. iirc. www.kensfish.com Kens hsa alot of their own label foods. Im useing their UIS flakes and their 1mm green pelltes adn Brineshrimp flakes. They prob have around fifty diff blends of flake and pelllets. Evem fry pellets in teh micro range with like 55% protein. Sorry if i went on too long. lol, its a good place, if u havent yet, check them out.

      I do have an affiliate link through them (I get a small commission for the channel for any orders through a link), but in the case of the foods I use and literally every product I have from the Co-Op, I have paid for them out of my own pocket with the only discount received being through my fish club (GSAS) back before they did the changes that brought the price cuts. The only items I have received free from the Co-Op are the red shirt (public event one Cory gives away to everyone) and a few of the tiny sample sizes the store gives out free for Vibrabites. Every item in this video I paid for, and would buy again. Long answer I know, but I need to be specific as I can see I forgot to edit my description on this video - cheers!

    Absolutely nothing wrong with Tetra. The best Tetra food is pro energy. I prefer Sera Vipan but I fed Tetra for many years. Word of note, the food the fish go crazy for doesn't necessarily mean it's the best. Also ingredients are not the only important thing as most fish foods can have great ingredients but the way they are processed is what matters.

    I think you are a little confused on how fish food is made and how it works.

      Why do you say that? It is, most commonly various ground meals and fillers extruded and cooked off in one way or another. I've watch some companies MAKE very fine powder food, so I'm curious what specifically you mean.
