Hi Porter: If I had chosen to plumb the machine in to the water supply the machine would be completely silent. As it is I have other machines in the plumbed positions in my rather cramped workspace. Regarding cost of machinery, one thing I admire about La Marzocco is their willingness to develop very interesting engineering and design exercises into products that they know up front are very niche. In a world of electronic water delivery schemes and automation, developing a no-holds barred lever machine pushed to the limit of current technology would only be done by a certain kind of company.
@@gregoryscace1915 I totally agree. Without pushing the engineering boundaries, the evolution of this art would be dead in the water. Sure it is super niche, and beyond most people's budgets, but I am happy to see them achieve it, nonetheless. But, 14k is silly. I put a PID device in my lever for about $50, I just bought the right probe fitting and ran that to my controller box.

In this case, the plumbing is more to push the water from the reservoir. I think if it were to be plumbed it, the motor would be a bit superfluous.
