- These are some routine clips of CSXT 1723 testing in Erie. The stillness and cloud cover allowed for better sound recording.

The sound of the GEVO-6 reminds me of the early ALCO diesels that used a 6-cylinder turbocharged 539 engine. Very cool!
We recently got #1721 and #1727 here in Maine, so unique and awesome to see new locomotives!!! Great video!
Cool! Thanks!
Gotta love the new motor and horn sound on CSX SD23T4 1726!
Yeah no, that horn sounds atrocious.
was inside 1726 for the test, and saw you been out there with your camera....Nice video !!!
Thanks! I really enjoy watching you guys work!
Nice I never seen CSX SD23T4/ET23 Before look very Epic
That 1726 looks and Sounds SWEET!
If you ever look up videos of a British diesel called a Class 20, at full power they sound remarkably similar to this thing. Love the prime mover sound on these new units but I'm not really impressed by the horn.
Great vídeo !
what bell is it using?
Super nice Video! Thumbs Up!
I noticed at the end the MBTA MP36’s were labled as MP36PH-4c’s instead of 3c. Is 4c going to be the new MBTA classification??
Its tenative, it may change in the final product.
@@stephankoenig5481 Ok, thanks for the info!
@@stephankoenig5481 Also, i think i asked you this but i can’t recall the answer. Can you confirm or deny if the roadnumbers are being changed to 10 and 11 from its previous 010 and 011? Thanks.
@@southmassrailfan As far as I know they will have the same number.
@@stephankoenig5481 Ok, Thanks!!
Is that train different then the large ones?
Is that supposed to be a future version of an SD40-2?
I thought the horn wedged in the radiators only works when the engine is in reverse, guess I was wrong big time.
we learn something new everyday!
Split horn. Just like on the CP GP20ECOs
We built that!
Yall built that !AND IT IS SO VERY UGLY!AND IS HAS A TERRIBLE SOUND TO IT!OVERALL, THIS IS ANOTHER FAILURE OF A BUILDER TO ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THE SD40-2 INTO SOMETHING ELSE THAN JUST REBUILD IT BACK TO WHAT IT WAS!THIS THING IS UGLY AND IT IS TERRIBLE!
The cp gp20ecos have a single tone rear facing horn defiantly sounds different
Get to the chopper…wait, this isn’t my chopper!
OH THEY GOT THE EKYRAIL BELLS!!!! EUGH!!!
The Prime Mover sounds exactly like a 539. Are you sure GE didn't just straight up stick one of those in this thing?
a sleeper 539 tier4??
Weird K5HL but cool rebuilt
Nice video, like 300
Thank you 👍
0:40what are rear horn sounds
sounds like a 6 cylinder Baldwin.
Sounds like the Jetsons flying car. Bizarre
Any update on BL20GHM 129?
Nothing yet
Did GE do the conversion?
Ge designed it, Wabtec's Relco built it.
It’s on the GE test track.
hmm it has a rear horn, i think emd did this befo- *wdp4 series flashbacks*
Is this from Knoxville Locomotive Works?
Made by Wabtec.
KLW rebuilds older EMD units with Cummins prime motors. The ST23-T4's are actually rebuilt by GE/Wabtec despite originally being EMD SD40-2's.
Regardless,if this was a CAT/PRLX rebuild it would've been another failure just like the SD70AH-T4's.
Is it a 4 Stroke? .. Thank you!
All GE engines are 4 stroke.
I would love to know what that little red "flag" in front of the radiator says.
It indicates there is a Guru valve put in. It protects the radiator from freeze damage.
What's in the sd-23, Cylinder's? .. Addl: unaware of the 6cyl Evo....
It's a new 6 cylinder motor 4 stroke. Not evolution series.
@@stephankoenig6113 Thank you! .. really cool. Assuming bigger Bore, Longer stroke? idk. Large radiators, thermodynamics .. Awesome.
SD23. 6 cylinder EVO engine
I knew it, the ET23DCMs horns are K1L13 and K2H with bells 2 and 4 like the GECX tier 4 units
No its just a K5HL on a Split Manifold
My Brain Still Cant Comprehend this engine at all lol
Low Nose mounted lights
Why do they never test these things with freight cars to make sure they are capable of pulling freight and they won't break down or fail
The other locomotives simulate a train by using their dynamic brakes to put a load on it while pulling.
No wig wag ditch lights?
none for this test
That compressor is so loud.
Electronic Horn?
Air horn electrically controlled.
Even if the engine is sounding a lot better, that horn is still no good...
aGG1 horn sounds better!
Nice video! Sounds weird.
It does! Thanks!
WTF GE yo EMD???😮
GE ET23DCM o SD23T4 cómo las designó CSX.
Ya todo es GE hasta el motor y solo el exterior aún conserva algo de EMD
Its a zombie!
@@michaeldorosz6446 if it don't work, it will have to be killed like the dozer in the killdozer movie.
WHAT IS THAT?!
how they massacred my poor sd40-2
Bro...

What fresh hell is that?! Just when I thought they couldn’t get any worse than those horribly ugly rebuilt cabs, they go and throw a GE engine block in an EMD! A scrapper’s torch would’ve been more dignified than what they did to this thing. Good grief.
The SD40-3's from CSX,Norfolk Southern,Canadian Pacific, and Canadian National do just fine including all other EMD -3 rebuilds.
I'm uncertain what these ST23-T4's will present in the future though...As much as I prefer the modern GE units over the newer EMD units because of traction, the GP40-2's & SD40-2's were always perfect as is...There never has been anything wrong with the EMD 645 series for the most part...
Because of emissions regulations,I think this is a product that's an attempt at making something "better" when it's been reliable for many years with no issue.
the war crime committed against this poor Sd40 should count as a crime against humanity... excuse me while i go set up for it's next test so i can play the taps when it goes by. rip sd40 freind you were loved. im so sorry for what the mad scientsist at ge did to you lol
Your comment is very funny
tbh its actually smart
the SD40s are old and falling apart, let alone the ones being rebuilt are the ones that were stored for a long time iirc
@@thedwaynerailfans
Nope,it's emissions regulations that's the real reason for the ST23-T4's for CSX.The GP40-2's & SD40-2's aren't falling apart, they've remained intact for many years. In modern times where modern GE units overthrow newer EMD units for good reasons, that series has continued to outlive and remain reliable compared to anything else.
There is nothing wrong with the 645 series except heavier carbon footprint which is why the EPA made sure EMD discontinued production even though the company was already making serious mistakes and falling behind compared to GE.
This product just might become an example of trying to make a perfect outcome better when actually it's becoming worse.
Wtf did they do to that beautiful SD40-2
TheyTOK HER AND RUINED HER! THIS THING JUST AINT GONNA CUT IT IN HEAVY HAUL SERVICE. IF IT EVER COMES OUT IN HO SCALE MODELS, IM NOT WASTING MY MONEY ON IT!ILL BUY CONVENTIONAL SD40-2 S FOR MY LAYOUT BEFORE I BUY THIS UGLY THING!
I'm NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS UGLY LOCOMOTIVE!IT SOUNDS LIKE OLD BALDWIN 606SC ENGINE!THIS THING IS NOT A GOOD INVESTMENT! THIS IS ANOTHER WAY TO RUIN A RELIABLE LOCOMOTIVE!
