  • Short Course trucks are typically thought of as racing machines, but they can make for some really fun basher RC cars as well. For those that just like to go out and rip through the dirt with something mean, stylish and similar looking to a real short course truck, these machines can deliver lots of fun. So when we had the oportunity to show you the HPI Jumpshot SC Flux, a powerful brushless ready to run machine with a racing look, we were excited to give it some wheel time. Greg will go over the important details about the SC and show you up close what it's all about in this extensive review. Then we take it out for some action! We were not easy on this truck, we thrashed it on the track and sent it until we broke it. If you want a short course truck, this is one to put on your list.

    Love your reviews! This thing looks strong (despite problems with the servo saver), fast and fun but you can't hide the fact that handling is sketchy and the technology is old (I mean TVP chassis?) . Sorry but hope HPI is not relying on this thing to revive the brand!

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Thanks!! Why is TVP old? It’s a design style. Just like plate chassis, tub chassis, modular chassis. It’s proven to work on the Savage and adapted here, it sets them apart from all the others. I see people saying the Jumpshot is old when it’s not when compared to some other brands. How long has Traxxas been using their 1/10 chassis? 2-3 times longer than the Jumpshot yet they sell tons. A company releasing a new chassis all the time scares me. The cost to do that is high and one bad release could really damage a company and then users won’t have the parts support anymore. Using something proven and tweaking any issues with new versions is smart for the business and the end user. HPI is rebuilding itself, it’s doing it the smart way by replenishing parts stock for existing users, offering revised versions of existing cars to regain consumer confidence without incurring big investments for new models. This will eventually pave the way for new stuff once they’re on solid ground. Most of the handling issues in the video was a result of the tires, non-vented body and wind. It’s a good truck and does handle well as a basher which is it’s intended use. I wouldn’t at all recommend it as a race truck though. Sorry about the long post, but I think it will help others with similar questions. 😆

      @@rcdriver All excellent points Greg but all the other platforms are firmly established and widely used. That HPI is pretty much the only manufacturer to use this technology says something in my mind. It's very stiff but offers no real advantages over other platforms. Using a proprietary design (at least one not commonly used) can set you apart from other manufacturers, or it can put you out on the fringes. Also, it means stocking spares that adds to an already huge overhead for hobby stores. Not necessarily disagreeing with you, you're a smart guy, lol, I just think there are a lot better options out there. I would love to see HPI make a return, especially their on-road stuff but time will tell.

    The Jumpshot is great , except for that weak servo and servo saver. Upgrade the servo to all steel and a heavy duty aluminum servo saver, change the spur gear to a steel one, then you have one beast of an rc.

  • @Vaterraman
    @Vaterraman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't seem too good of a basher if the servo saver is breaking that easily, especially considering you don't have a lot of air control with 2wd. Maybe you were just unlucky, but you've put other vehicles through a lot more without any breakages, including much heavier vehicles. $300 (CAD)...I'm not sure. Similar price to what I paid for my Vaterra Glamis Uno (unfortunately a company that is gone now). The Glamis had aluminum shock caps, and never leaked on me. In fact, I never did maintenance on the Glamis, largely due to the difficulty in disassembly. I modded it to a mod1 pinion and spur, added a better electronics combo, and had that thing doing over 80mph on 3s, and kept the same gearing for off road. Total breakages, before the slipper pad that put the vehicle out of commission was one shock rod end and on dogbone after an impact hitting a car tire.

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve put the other Jumpshot trucks through a lot and have more rough driving time in on them since the reviews. Haven’t broken the servo savers on them. I think I hit this one at just the right angle. Things happen, but I did want to share what I encountered.

    • @Vaterraman
      @Vaterraman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rcdriver Ah okay, just the lucky hit I guess. I've had a few of those with my Outcast 8s...or my girlfriend rather. She tapped into a brick built garden structure. Limited to 50% throttle, and she barely hit it, but it snapped an arm. It was the first break the truck had, and I was launching it off snow banks, sometimes 20ft in the air.
