    As someone who has never even been to a road race, I found this to be absolutely fascinating.
    It was like an old discovery channel documentary (back when they did real ones). Just all great information both in the footage and from the commentary. * Applause *

    Super useful stuff guys. Thanks for taking the time on this and following the NorCal template is a good plan. It’ll be fun once Nate is a 3 and you get the two of you and Jonathan in some P123 races. One thing I’d add is to make mention of wind direction. Maybe there’s an icon or text that can live next to the course map as it’s always useful to know? What would be the best would be a wind vane that moves as you circle the course so we see how that direction effects positioning.
    Also, once you do have teammates in a race pointing them out early. Pretty much every Utuber seems to assume we know what their team kit looks like.

      Good idea for wind direction. At this race there was very little to no wind.

    Really pants advice at the end where the Racer says to cut across on the last corner to shorten the sprint. Once the sprint has opened up then you should not go across the road as recommended here. You can slowly go across but only slightly. You'll cause a crash otherwise. You have got to hold your line in the corners and in the sprint. The lesson in the sprint is to never follow Tim in the sprint. You have to look and analyse who is the strongest and best rider. Then keep them close and go where they go and when they get to the finish, you'll be right behind and in a good position. If you leave such a big gap to the next wheel then others will barge in and take your wheel. You need to be about a yard behind the wheel in front and that will stop others from coming in and you losing position.

    This is a really interesting video and also very inspiring to try out to join cycling races myself. Are these race for pro only or are there races available for amateurs? I am based in NYC, and I'm trying to find out more about these type of races in NYC, but I don't know what keyword I should use to find out more about these type of races. Is there a name for these type of race or amateur cycling races?

    Nate, great analysis of your positioning. One comment I'd make as an experienced rider and coach is that you spend too much time out in the wind instead of being on the wheel. Leaving a gap to the side of the rider in front basically opens the door to someone coming past. Its preferable to look through the rider in front to see whats happening and only move into the wind when its a deliberate action to move up or back if too close to the front if you dont want to work. Otherwise awesome seated sprint - just like Ed Clancy.

    • @TrainerRoad
      @TrainerRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ray Pugh I agree with you. Sometimes it’s because someone pushed me out; I’m not really good at fighting for wheels. Other times I’m on the side so that I can get into a move if it happens, sometimes I’m on the side not doing very much power...but in general I need to draft more.

    • @crossvet
      @crossvet 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can keep a gap to move out to cover moves by just keeping your bars ahead of the guy trying to move past you -just keep some pressure on the pedals. When they give up, slot back on the wheel. Needs peripheral vision and a strong will. Its YOUR wheel -not theirs.

    The analysis missed a big one -- you should have jumped a few seconds earlier, maybe between 9:14-9:17. If you had, you would have had a huge run at them and they wouldn't have been able to react in time. You're floating several feet off the back of a group. You have a long sit down sprint. That gap through the last turn wasn't necessarily fatal if you knew how to use it.

    • @1timdog1066
      @1timdog1066 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TobuConQueso if he had pedaled through the last turn he would have won. He took it wide and didn’t pedal which caused the gap.
