But still the Pole Star leers down from the same place in the black vault, winking hideously like an insane watching eye which strives to convey some strange message, yet recalls nothing save that it once had a message to convey.
    That line gives me shivers

People often complain of Lovecraft's "stiff" prose, or his bad writing--but this story, as perform'd here, is quite wonderful, and its prose is poetically beautiful.

+wilum pugmire Indeed! His prose fits the general atmosphere of his tales perfectly. Thanks for listening!

His writing is so imaginative, full of imagery that is hard to match (few can do it), has been replicated many times over, has influenced HUGE modern horror movies and authors (S. King for example), and it some of the best writing I have ever been blessed to read. I always just assume people who complain can't understand it. It IS hard to understand. Some stories I had to read twice. Some I still don't quite get, but sometimes that is the point. Makes them no less beautiful. He shows range and ability to write in diff contexts while holding to his own true style. Example, I like the C Mythos but they are my least favorite even though Necronomicon is his best known works. I personally am a fan of the Dream Cycles. The Silver Key, MAGIC. Ex Oblivione, hauntingly stunning (and still a little hard for me still to understand)... Even he hisself is a quite interesting character. His writing is EXTRAORDINARY and highly evolved and intelligent. Therefore to some, hard to understand if they don't have a larger vocabulary or the desire to pull out a dictionary to look up such words. The Eldritch and gothic times developed wonderful literature that was not always meant to make sense but to make one question. I LOVE HIS WRITING!

Dreams of Witch House was rendered onto film in the series Masters of Horror. I liked it. I like that film series but as each episode is done by a different Director on the horror genre some are better than others. I recommend the series to any of you out there.

I Love HP Lovecrafts work and find I can drift away and be taken on a journey like no other writer can do with his work. Yet I found this one hard to follow. Its the first one where I have to say I just dont get it. I may be tired. Will move on to another and come back to this. Anyone else see this one as harder to follow ?

So he was writing of the viking type people who were exterminated by Asiatics (it was eskimos, right?) in the northern part of N.America thousands of years ago? Interesting that he knew about that.
