We are Heather, Bradey, Alexa and Chloe. We purchased an abandoned stone barn in the foothills of the Italian Alps and we are working together as a family to renovate and restore this old stone barn into our dream home.

Brady, you are a superman. I have been watching you since your travels. I saw the house from the very beginning. My daughter in law came in and said, you are watching him chip rocks. Yes, it is amazing what this man can do. I am so excited to see it finished. You have an incredible supportive family and I wish y"all the very best. Your home is so beautiful.

Commenting for the algorithm. The amount of physical labour involved here is insane. Hats off to you, Brady. What is the coolest part of all of this besides sharing your journey with the masses is the fact that your children and grandchildren and who knows how many generations will have a record of all the work that went into your breathtaking mountain oasis.

I remember the first time you put the big key in the lock and opened the door. This has been a Herculean Task and your whole family has done their share in making this house your Home. I love that the Locals are teaching you the ancient knowledge (and improving on your Italian!) of how these houses were built in the first place. You have a great Team with you. It's been such back-breaking work at times and you all keep pushing through. I'm so excited to see the corner being turned and almost time to hang drywall!

    Projects can sometimes really suck.
Having owned a sloped property, I know what you are going through.
The first thing I had done was to have survey and a topographic layout.$$$
Without it you a most likely shooting in the dark.
Given the projected area above the house creates a large hydrostatic pressure (force).
It has always been my contention that the first thing to do was to cut a ditch above the terraces, back slope the terraces with a draining ditch at the base of each terrace wall. Finding drainage for all that water and installing that french drain before even thinking about starting the house.
    Truly a monumental task.
All the best and keep being safe.

It's heartening to hear that your videos have been a source of help and relief for my friend, aiding them in their battle against depression. The power of community and shared experiences, even through something as seemingly mundane as fixing water intrusion, is truly remarkable.
As you work to overcome this challenge and make your home a safer and more comfortable place, know that your efforts are appreciated and valued. Your willingness to share your journey, including the struggles and triumphs, is not only educational but also deeply meaningful to those who watch.
Thank you for being a beacon of inspiration and hope, both in your home improvement endeavors and in supporting others through their own struggles.

    Happy Sunday❣️
It is great to see that you finally have dealt with the issue that has worried you the most through this time.
Many good suggestions are made but knowing Brady and Heather through the years on YT, I am 100% sure they have found a great solution through intense study, asking locals and experts. In addition, Brady always do everything so thorough and even make backup solutions. 👌
I moved to Turkey 20 years ago and have met the same issues here as they do in Italy. What WE are used to do or have in our home countries can be hard or impossible to find. I say that 70% of the time we spend on fixing stuff goes to just search for the materials or tools and substitute solutions.😊
We have used the same drainage pipes without any fabrics in our garden in Turkey and it works amazingly well.
Love to follow this great family and wish I one day could get a chance to visit. ❤

Missing the fabric sock over the Ag pipe is really a benifit in my view , many landscapers has stopped using it because in time , fine silt will build up on it and the pipe recieves no water ( visualise blocked fuel or air filter ) we live in rainforest conditions and run a dehumidifier in rooms when needed .

I think that fabric was ideal to put it on the bottom of the trench. This way the water will glow through the pipe, and will not go in the ground/ to the basement. Anyway will work, but I think it would be more efficient with the fabric.

Sorry if it's been asked before but have you seen how another mountain house similar to yours has solved that water issue? Love this project.

I sure hope your drainage system is adequate for the volume of water that you will be dealing with.. I would think you would need probably 2 to 3 times that amount of drain pipe to slow the flow..

You said more than once not a usual french drain. It is a surface catchment graded drain with a catchment basin/barrel/hole on the downward side. This system is not designed to catch deep water percolation or seepage from the terraces behind the house.
A normal french drain would have:
The back wall dug down to the foundation stones.
The wall exterior would be concrete parged. Any major gaps filled in or repaired.
Next an exterior oil/tar coating is applied.
Then the dimpled membrane is attached to the wall and the sheathed perforated pipe is laid and covered in 1 to 3 in gravel. Water can run off the side, or to a sewer or to a gray water collection system.
Backfill and compact the graded pipe up to the terrace grade.
Allow 2 to 4 inches to be added for concrete or asphalt as a covering material.
So it will be very interesting to see how much surface water is diverted vs run off from the lower foundation area. It is tough, back breaking, manual work. You also have air circulating to minimize condensation, mold, dehumidify the air.

Not understanding the process you're working on, but as long as you do, that's what counts. So much work you're having to do to make the home liveable. Will be beautiful tho.

Before u complete the drain ”down through the tunnel”. Out a T-section there so that u in the future can flush the frensh drain. Since u didn’t use the fabric
