- On September 8th, 2023, Officers with the Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at the Circle K Gas Station as part of an ongoing investigation in which several non-fatal drug overdoses had occurred in the area surrounding the store. The officers promptly detained the employees before conducting the search. The extensive ongoing investigation had led detectives to suspect a store employee, Joanne, of distributing fentanyl from inside the store. The employees were then read the warrant before being searched. During the search the officers found several baggies of fentanyl and wads of cash in Joanne’s bag. When interrogated, she refused to answer any questions. Joanne was then arrested and transported to jail. Her daughter, who had come to pick her mother up, was informed of the situation by a concerned officer. It was reported that the officers located sixteen individual bags, eight containing fentanyl, and eight containing methamphetamines from the 48 year old’s purse. Joanne was arrested and charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a church, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a Church, and sale, manufacture, or delivery of fentanyl within 1000 feet of a Church.

I'm not even considering fent when I said my statement, fent isn't in my area hard obvious or anything, haven't really seen anything of the sorts that bad. It's what they call an "enhancement charge" or "aggravating factor" a lot of times stuff like that gets dismissed as a bargaining chip for cooperating on a plea agreement or leverage for getting more information to be used to charge other people. It also comes up at sentencing for the judge to consider harsher penalties.
It's one of the many failures of the failed war on drugs..."enhancement charges".

Even before legalization places like basically the West Coast, Colorado cops would generally turn away from small amounts like a gram. I mean it was always a catalyst for more charges if you wanted to take it there but there were a lot of counties where small amounts were a ticket. now that its legal, you may even see people just smoke it on the street and no one calls or does anything about it.

In Florida, you're required to have a Medical Marijuana card & be 21 & older to use. Recreational use isn't legal, so I'm not sure why she felt comfortable telling him that. 🙃

Since the daughter brushed off her husband’s attempt at “comforting” her, more than likely he is involved and she is aware of it. That’s probably one of the reasons the suspect refused to talk.

you could tell by the body language of the dude while the cop was listing off her potential charges, that he was involved.
No it’s just better to not talk to police at all ever and plenty of smart people are aware of that. Even if you have no involvement, just talking to them could potentially land you in jail with false accusations and it’s their word against yours

This provides harsher penalties for selling, manufacturing, etc. within 1,000 feet of a church and turns the charge into a second-degree felony. This can result in up to 15 years in prison, 15 years of probation, and a fine of $10,000. But it’s a drug conviction so I’ll be curious if she spends any time in prison.
