This is, hands down, the best TK painting tutorial on TH-cam. Nicely done! I will be trying some of this myself.
Bless mate and thank you for the kind comment. It honestly goes a long way to letting me know that there is still plenty of room and desire for longer formatted tutorials!
those look absolutely amazing, the shield in particular look fantastic.
Cheers mate thank you!
Some of the tomb kings skellies are in part repurposed sprues from GWs first plastic skeleton "regiment" . Not that its a worry at all I like the older sometimes more robust kits .Ever try moving that vampire coven thingy around a battle field ?
Yep the tomb kings skeletons are just the OG Vampire Counts ones with a different accessory sprue.
So good to see more recent tk videos that are not centered around contrast paint ❤
Much love mate. Of course there is nothing wrong with contrast paint and I’ve recommend a colour in the comments to another who wants an acrylic substitute ✌️
awesome video - love to see traditional painting guides on youtube and taking some old models to a modern day painting standard. Subbed for more!
Bless mate and happy you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the sub and looking forward to hearing from you again :)
Exactly the scheme I used for my TK, all those years ago. I still have this army, and always wanted to eco and it with later models from later editions. I might get the chance, with “The Old World”. My favourite, of all the armies I painted over the years…
Good to hear another man of culture :) Lucky you still have your OG army, as I gotta put in the work all over again :P
It was daunting to see this video being 1 hour long, but the combination of good music, the way you talk and describe what you are doing deliberating about the process is really engrossing. Kind of like a Bob Ross video hahah. 56 minutes ended up passing in a flash, awesome work!! I think I might follow this for painting my Tomb Kings, wish I hadn't sold mine years ago but super glad they are back :)
Bless mate that is wonderful feedback and glad you enjoy my longer format “Bob Ross” lol. But seriously much love and I hope this translates to your models and helps your painting in any way ✌️💀🙏
Woo!! Cheers! I think it definitely will :D
They look fantastic. I think the paintwork on the shields really elevates them
Cheers man thank you. The shields do pay off☺️✌️🙏
Never painted anything before, but I have started with this as a guide, thanks so much!
Mine are obviously not as good as yours, but they look way better than I anticipated.
I'm happy to hear you started with your first miniatures and hope you enjoyed the process for many more to follow :)
Great video and beutiful paintjob. It will definitely help me with my recently unearthed Tomb Kings 😁
Awesome mate and much love! I hope your skeletons come out great and being a proud owner of your collection!
These models definitely show their age but this tutorial is fantastic for making the most of the dated sculpts. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub man and glad you liked the paint treatment I gave to these old minis!
Really impressive paintjob!!
Cheers man Ty ✌️❤️
Brilliant video , love to see more of this box set , thank you for sharing
You’re very welcome and glad you enjoyed it! Much more Tomb Kings coming down the line as well as more on my Patreon too! The Skeleton Dragon part 1 is up there right now :)
they look nice!!
Cheers mate Ty ✌️🙏💀
old mini but with awesome paint job, look really modern!! good job!! i just whant it now !
Yeah man it’s crazy what a new coat of paint and updated techniques can bring to old models I’d almost disregard.
Lovely vibe on this video. Could watch you all day!
Hehe much love mate Ty! Well I do have more tutorials on the channel for you to watch if you like, and even more on Patreon 😊
I just discover your channel and I'm blown away! These skelly boys for 20 years old look super great!
Also, what a great quality for the video, what camera/lens do you use? Would love to shoot videos of my finished models
Bless mate that’s very kind of you to say 🙏. It truly is amazing what a fresh coat of paint does to old minis. The camera I use is a Sony a6400 with a Sigma 105mm DG Art macro lens 👌🏜️📹
Thanks a lot! Keep up the great work!!!
you made these much maligned models look amazing. I'm gonna have to copy you. Cheers, mate!
Please absolutely do. It’s the whole intent of the tutorial ☺️💀✌️
@Bb Miniatures This looks ace! Happily a new subscriber! I am just wondering, how would your approach for painting the bone change if you were after a colder white, say for a Vampire Count army, where the secondary colours would be something like a deep red and black, rather than the turquoise-y blue seen here? Which paints would you suggest? Thanks!
Ahhh well you could take that in so many directions really. The VC skeletons have more wooden sheilds n coffin lids right? I imagine a lot of wood from cheap box coffins to only a few would have baller caskets that has had the wood carved and varnished etc.
Parallel thinking is a real thing. I used the same colors for my skeletons, except I used Hull Red from Model Color instead of Tamiya.
Solid colour blocking and applied well goes a long way towards a great scheme! Thanks for watching mate :)
I am going to do exactly this with my tomb kings and the thematic terrain I’m building, after I finish adding the new Bretonnian models to my army. The Lady, BSB on RP, and the duke im the box are first, as I’ll be playing my Brets first. They were my first army 31 years ago. Tomb Kings are my new year, new army army. I am very much looking forward to painting and playing the Necrolith Bone Dragon and Necrosphynx.
Dude thats sick mate! Hope you crush it and enjoy the process all towards the tabletop!
Lovely work! I’m looking to do breach into fantasy for the first time, but Dwarfs. The colours here are lovely, well done!
Dope mate and all the fun to be had going into the Old World. Chaos Dwarves were actually my very first faction I collected when I dipped into Fantasy for the first time in my early teens.
That music had me going the whole hour baby
Hehe gotta run it in theme my man!
A bit late to the party I can see. But I really like your video and the result. And I don't even play TK. Here's to hoping you do more of the old world stuff in the near future!
It’s never too late my friend:) I’m glad you found the tutorial enjoyable and useful! There will be more in the old world I’m very sure.
@@BbMiniatures that's true. I am thinking more and more about it. Until then I just keep watching you're ToW videos.and probably what ever else you come up with 😅🤟
Amazing paint!!! 10/10!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Was really excited for this! Your style is gorgeous
Thats wonderful to hear mate thank you! I hope this tutorial helps in your own collections and your opponents show you the same love.
Absolutely unreal work! If you were to do this without an airbrush, would you use the same technique on the shields that you used on the blue headband? (I know I wouldn't be able to get that same smooth transition with just brushes)
Bless mate I’m glad you’re feelin the paint job on these classic skeletons. As for the shields, yes. By layering up and directing your brush upwards towards the highlight will help with the blend itself. We can do other things such as a unification glaze over the entire shield to help soften the transition if desired. Just managing what you want in the finish vs the time spent. And as I said, the shield is where I’d put extra to get the most from your time vs visual impact :)
@BbMiniatures thank you so much for the response 😊 very excited to give it a crack!! Thanks again for an awesome tutorial
You’re very welcome mate. I hope your skeletons turn out great and enjoy your games with em! Of course if you want more Tomb Kings tutorials and hobby progress. Come follow me on Patreon:)
I love the banners! What do you think your paints with for brushwork?
Thanks man! Sorry but I'm not quite sure what you are asking? Are you referring to what i use to "thin" my paints? If that is so, then just water.
@@BbMiniatures Bloody autocorrect! That was supposed to say "thin" 😂
I love this for the airbrushing, might just skip and try only basecoating things because im bad a brush control and higlhighting etc.
Happy to inspire your work in any way mate. Of course I encourage you to put a bit of time in practice with the brush. The shields would be the best place to do that. Easy to lay flat and off the model. Almost akin to drawing on a piece of paper on a desk. Can’t get any better practice set up for brush control than this ✌️☺️💀.
@@BbMiniatures All the airbrushing and stuff, those gradients seem doable and some weathering etc. I am not one for brush control I can do a nice even basecoat but thats about it.
@@BbMiniatures Could I drybrush the gold metallics just a well?
@@BbMiniatures Think ill run a simple edge highlight on the cloth on the headpieces, and i might leave the shields without the brushwork, or I might attempt some sponge chipping on the shields because it'll be a bit more of a beginner friendly technique.
P.S Some streaking grim on the gold rivets and skulls etc. :)
Nice work! is there a alternativ to decayed metal colour? cant seem to find that in my area
Where I’m not familiar with a lot of the metallic paint names. But look for a darker brass metallic paint. Or if you have a metallic silver paint, you can mix in a bit of Rhinox Hide and use that to base coat the gold too.
so beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Is a matte black or a satin black better for undercoating metallics?
Vallejo black is matt as is my preferred black, but it makes little difference if any between satin and matt for undercoating metallics.
Brilliant video. I always wondered how you did those shields so well :)
Bless mate I’m really happy you enjoyed it and revealing the shield method to ya!
Very nice work. Thanks for the tutorial. Bordeaux, a city in France, is pronounced Bor-dough. Like bread dough. : )
Ohhhh excellent mate that’s good to know how to pronounce the colour :) Thanks for the compliment and happy you enjoy the tutorial. Hope it helps with your painting ✌️❤️🙏
Awesome work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your approach. Thanks for all you put out there. 🤎
My pleasure and much love for watching!
Fantastic tutorial thank you! Can you tell me what music is it at 14:30 please?
You’re welcome and thanks for watching. Sorry I don’t know all the names to the tracks I use. Stock audio from soundstripe
beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Patreon is banging so glad i signed up 🎉
Wooop Wooop thanks brotha! Love you being a part of it and seeing your work through these years :D
great stuff dude
Much love homie I'm glad you're diggin it!
Thanks for this! Do you have any alternative contrast paints or washes you might recommend instead of the enamel for the overall shade? I don't really have the room or equipment to try enamel washes personally
Sure mate I can recommend Darkoath Flesh contrast from GW is an excellent alternative and has a similar red oxide hue thats close to the Dark Rust Wash. I would cover the model as I've shown in the tutorial, thin it down with some of the contast medium, as well as using that medium to thin and pull off to protect your highlights. A straight substitute that just dries faster, so you will have to work a bit quicker!
@@BbMiniatures I'll look into it cheers!
I enjoyed the content!
Cheers mate thanks!
is the red on the shield bordeaux red?
Yep that’s one of them that’s in the banner. Along with Dead Red 👌
may i know what deep shades did you use for 53th minutes?
It's the same Enamel wash I use on the skeletons. 33:05 for its mixture and application of Dark Flesh Wash
MOARRRR! ❤
Haha I’m trying my best to make tutorials in a healthy tempo lol. My Patreon has a load more tutorials to view, study, and help your painting :)
Man, I wish all my TK skeletons came with enough heads to have the adornments..
Me too my friend. The main thing id love for them to have included. Good side, the blank skeleton heads paint even faster lol.
0:42 "Back when it was about 1920... close to 20 years ago..."
Wow, this guy sounds pretty spry for someone over 100 years old. His math skills are a little off though.
lol around 19 or 20 years old 😝. But hey my math still ain’t great ✌️☺️
Airbrush BUUU sir BUUUU you should have write it in title
Ah sorry if that was anything misleading as that wasn’t my intent? I hope at least you heard me mention the airbrush over in materials during the introduction.
@@BbMiniatures that was where i stop watching
Thats fair if you're not interested in methods with the airbrush. Of course you can always substitute this with drybrushing the subsequent layers of bone on the skeleton and use the remainder of the painting recipe and enamel wash later to get a similar desired outcome. All the best to ya and hope your skeletons come out great!
How to paint Tomb Kings:
Step 1: 3d print mummified undead models from Onepagerules
Step 2: Take your tomb kings rulebook into the bathroom.
Step 3: Read the mummified undead rules cause they're free
Step 4: Use tomb kings rulebook as toilet paper
Step 5: Play a better game that doesn't insisit on bilking you for every dime it can just because it's owners want to buy another yacht.
Step 6: Profit(For you, not for games don't workshop)
so edgy.
Ahhh yes, just put this in French. As the language is so much finer to complain in. Like wiping your ass with silk ☺️✌️! But please use a bidet 😉
They really needed to take the time to make these worth the buy. These minis age horribly. They look like a cartoon from the 1920s with the bogus proportions and lack of detail. I'm half expeting them to field a Xylophone made of ribs as a chaplain
To each their own ✌️💀🙏
@@BbMiniatures dont get me wrong. I was this close 🤏🏻 to buying an army box much like this one in 2007.
Turns out it wouldve costed me less to do so when it was brand new than it does today.
Brb gonna give one of these guys some xylophone mallets made from toothpicks as a musician
