You have no idea how much I appreciate this video!! I saw a comment somewhere on how to switch it to the HAM Frequencies but I couldn't program it with the software for my GMRS channels. I spent hours fiddling and reading the manual and trying to figure out how to get back my GMRS channels. After your video I simply did the reverse, Hit the V/M button, turned it on and used the up and down arrows to get to GMRS and turned it off. Turned it on and All of the standard frequencies were back saving me untold frustrations. You are the best! Thank you!
Great video as always. I bought my DB20-G after watching your review. One Radioddity CPS question hopefully you can help me with. I accidentally entered two identical do it yourself repeater channels. I want to delete the second duplicate entry from the sheet and have gone through all of the CPS menus and can’t find anything to delete the entire line. Any ideas? Thank you.
@@GadgetTalk4U thank you that worked perfectly. I did notice one quirk afterwards though. I read from the radio, saved the file, deleted the line, saved the file under a new name and then uploaded to the radio. The duplicate entry on the radio is now gone and all my other channels look good. However, now whenever I first turn on the radio, instead of seeing my custom Call Sign, it now says “Welcome Anytone!!”. I went back into CPS and in my file my Call Sign is still there. Very strange.
I have the Anytone version and it showed up completely unlocked, which is what I needed to get it on the repeater for the university I work for to communicate with facilities and security. I use it everyday. I love it because it sounds so great on the other end. I did a mod to the mic which made a huge difference in the transmit audio quality. Here is what I did th-cam.com/video/1nc81dR8ANM/w-d-xo.html
I wish. The software it comes with is a nightmare compared to CHIRP. I would pay money to have someone do whatever it takes to get this supported on CHIRP, seriously. It's such a good radio but it's crippled by the software-- which isn't the biggest deal but it just makes the initial channel entry process terrible. Unlock this radio and it does the work of like 5 radios in one. God tier radio priced for the working class, I love it.
Seems you can download the Programming software for the Radioddity DB20-G at their Website but looks like they do not offer a Program Cable. Is it something Special and hard to find??
Does the FCC now allow the sale of radios that operate in 2 different services? As a ham I can make a radio do pretty much whatever I want, (boost power, change bands of operation, etc. But last I heard, the FCC didn't allow the sale of commercial radios that the user can put on different services.
I think the issue is time. The radio can't be both at the same time. It's either GMRS or Ham but not both. The radio has a Part 95 certification in it's GMRS mode so is good. As a ham radio it has a Part 15 certification for the receiver but there is no such thing as a Part 97 certified radio, I believe.
I did the trick of holding down the V/M button while turning it on to change the bands this radio can be used on. However, when I try to scan frequencies I programed into the radio, it doesn't scan the memory. None of them have the skip box checked, and when I program something in GMRS mode, the memories are scanned. Any thoughts as to how to fix this?

Glad it was helpful. Thanks for sharing.
All of the Retevis RA25 radios now ship with a program cable. I just got one! Love the little radio!
Always informative. Thank you!
I wish this one was compatible with CHIRP. Seems that the Radioddity DB25-G is... but the Radioddity DB20-G is not!

Click the frequency in the first column. It will have a light box around it. Press the delete key on your keyboard. It should all disappear.

Do you know if this radio is supported by chirp?
Don't think so. None of the common model numbers are listed on the Chirp page.

The programming cable is included with the radio I believe.

Hams are allowed to hack whatever they can hack.

No, sorry. I'm not big into scanning so haven't had much experience with that feature. Cheers.
@@GadgetTalk4U Not a problem! Found out there's a setting that's kind of buried that allows for the memory scanning to be turned on and off.
@@steves5825 Glad you found it and replied. Others have likely had the same issue. Cheers.
Did this apply also to the DB25-G?
Yes.
Anytone 578?;
That should be GMRS, rather than GRMS on the thumbnail.
Thanks. Missed that one. Cheers.
