I am so relieved, and so greatful that the National Assembly had the courage to stand up to this president. And yes, I swear over in the US somebody was watching this, going "martial law, what a great idea".
Yes, that is what is deeply concerning. Those of us who know and have experienced dictatorship or fascism know to recognize the signs of something ominous about to take root, during its inception phase. It all begins with “I’m so disappointed, bur oh well, it will end in 4 years, so just hunker down.” Those in the US who voted for a wanna-be dictator have definitely shown their political naïveté along with the sheer lack of life experiences. I have no doubt the S. Korean people will safeguard democracy and fight against a wanna-be dictator and prevail. I am not too certain about the folks in the US. I hope people are wise enough to peruse history and realize a fascist/dictator in a democratic disguise can be voted in during a seemingly democratic times, but he will never be voted out.
The world is ALWAYS on fire, we just now all know about it instantly with video and social media. 15 years ago it was different without social media explosion. also 60 years ago it was different without the explosion of video. But this is just exposing the flaws of mankind.
While it’s unclear exactly what effect the vote will have on the declaration, troops have begun withdrawing from parliament, according to South Korean media. Under South Korean law, the president is obliged to comply with the vote. South Korea and its allies will need to watch if North Korea tries to exploit the currently unfolding situation in Seoul after South Korea’s president declared martial law late Tuesday, one former special envoy to the Six Party Talks on North Korea said.
Blatantly bulldozing institutions and democracy for political gains and consolidation of power because he is under fire from all quarters is quite concerning, highly condemnable, utterly deplorable and definitely not acceptable.

More like this is what happens when a leadership gets desperate enough to start to make unwise moves. More of an Alien And Seditions Act thing than a dictatorship thing, from the way it's being described. Mind you, if he tried to use the threat or execution of military violence, that would be a different story.

I'm afraid it might be. I've read a lot of testimonies from Latin America about life during the dictatorships and wars (including Marshall law). Never thought I'd live it.
If you say so. There is a lot being said about things being "unclear" about what can and can't be done in SK, whereas the law in the US in this area seems pretty clear. Sad that I have to remind you that the guardrails in the US operated overwhelmingly effectively four years ago when there was an exploration into pushing the envelope of legal authority. Seems like your interest is more in fear mongering than anything else.
As a South Korean, you foreigners shouldn't rise this issue without any knoewledge of the current national crisis. The political power in Korea is basically divided by two different ways. The first one is obviously the president, and the second one is the Parliament where among 200 representtives, 180 of them are the opposite party from the current President's party. By this fact, every national money that had to be supported for action such as developing nuc power plant or exporting the things we are exceeding over any other countries such as semiconducter is getting cut from the parliament. Even the national police agency who can investigate these crisis are intimate with the opposite party and they are all acting like North Koreans or Chinese-friendly. So martial law had to and has to occur to get this crisis right. Dont talk bull shit about it if you aint living in Korea. The most of the Broadcast is also the opposite party so what you here is mostly the agitations from the opposite party and the true fact are being censored from Media. So dont talk about shit. I want my country to become an actualy democracy. And despite you guy's worries about the announcement president Yoon made, no single citizen will get hurt injured or anything. The people who worry about those are spies from North Korea or China. If you ACKKNOWLEDGE THE TRUTH, martial law has to happen again and get all those opposition party in to jail before we lose democracy
Unanimous vote against martial law - and instantly, South Korea is a brighter beacon of democracy than the U.S. The GOP never managed to unanimously reject Trump’s unconstitutional attempts to cling to power illegitimately after losing the election in 2020.
Marial Law was never declared!! Handful of idiots out of tens of thousands broke the law. However, the founding fathers of of America also broke the law too. If this happened here in the USA, would the Congress and the American people stand up and speak out and block him. ??? I commend the Korean people who treasure their democracy.
If President Biden tried this you better believe they would block him. We may have some nuts in government (on both sides), but there are enough people in Congress that respect our Constitution.
Currently, the people who suffered the most are the Korean youth who were unable to discharge from the military due to the declaration of martial law. 😂
The real purpose of Korea's declaration of martial law was to investigate voting fraud by the National Election Commission. The deployment of military forces in the National Assembly was a means to focus attention, and in reality, more military troops were deployed to the National Election Commission than to the National Assembly. Soldiers responded more proactively than those deployed to the National Assembly and collected various cell phone and IT information.
1. There were more than one strange situation in the National Assembly during martial law. 2. Already in August, during the confirmation hearing for Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Min-seok suddenly began to suspect that he was trying to impose martial law. 3. From this point on, there is a possibility that they intentionally leaked information that martial law would be declared and the National Assembly would be blocked. 4. 190 people supported the request to lift martial law, of which 18 were National Power Party members. 5. As many as 172 people from the opposition party gathered at the National Assembly in one and a half hours (the total number of opposition party members was 192, and Ahn Gwi-ryeong appeared in full makeup). 6. Immediately after the declaration of martial law, hundreds of Korean Confederation of Trade Unions gathered at the National Assembly to block the streets and protest, and all the pickets related to martial law were already made (they were busy coming out in a hurry, but when did they make these?) 7. They gathered at the National Assembly as if they had been waiting, but there was actually no intention to block the National Assembly using soldiers. 8. It was the police who blocked the National Assembly after martial law was declared, but even they checked their identities and let them in, but did not block them from entering. 9. The soldiers arrived late, around midnight, but did not use any force against the citizens. 10. Rather, the people on the democratic side who received orders tried to create a picture of an armed conflict by trying to take away guns and pointing them at them. 11. The soldiers deployed to the National Assembly did not know where they were going until they arrived, and they were confused as they were not sure of the operation situation. 12. Martial law was deliberately declared openly at 10:30, when everyone was watching TV and watching TH-cam and not sleeping. It seemed like the intention was to really convey a message. 13. There was no violation of the law in the process of declaring martial law. 14. It was passed through the State Council, there was no use of force by the soldiers, the lawmakers did not block the resolution request, and it was lifted immediately after passing the resolution request at the State Council. 15. There is room for interpretation as to the reason for the declaration, that it is a state of government paralysis equivalent to wartime or an incident, but the current Democratic Party's behavior (impeachment of 22 people including State Council members and prosecutors over two and a half years, total cuts in major budgets, etc.) is a state of state government paralysis. There is room to see it as 16. In other words, in order to prevent the worst case scenario of impeachment, martial law was declared and lifted while complying with the Constitution, and it did not cause any conflict in the National Assembly and only focused attention. 17. The soldiers deployed to the National Assembly did not have live ammunition. 18. Then why did you make this mess? 19. Far more soldiers than the soldiers deployed to the National Assembly robbed the National Election Commission and the National Election Commission Training Center in Gwacheon and Suwon. 20. The soldiers deployed here are actually armed. 21. They raided the National Election Commission much more harshly than what was shown at the National Assembly, including confiscating various items contained in boxes and confiscating the cell phones of party officials. 22. The National Election Commission is a government agency, but it is an independent constitutional agency, so no search and seizure warrants are issued in peacetime, and it is impossible to rob it by deciding whether or not to conduct an investigation at its own discretion. 23. Because it was under martial law, soldiers were able to take out something inside. 24. You can tell where the main force was just by looking at the number of personnel deployed, and while the National Assembly only pretended to do it, the National Election Commission used actual physical force, such as directly stealing property and confiscating cell phones. 25. Since our country is a country with 35,000 US troops stationed there, it is impossible to declare martial law without consulting the US. 26. Anything you say you didn’t know about America is unpublished 27. Trump has always made public discussions about election fraud, including his own elections. 28. A few months ago, Trump's closest associates came to Korea to investigate the reality of election fraud and returned. 29. The period after Trump’s election coincided with the declaration of martial law and the disclosure of the National Election Commission. 30. Trump has many cards he wants to negotiate with Korea, such as increasing defense spending, but he cannot talk with the Democratic Party. At least he can communicate with Yoon, but since they are a large opposition party, the President cannot do anything. 31. Since Korea is an important country from the U.S. perspective, Trump wants to achieve results related to Korea during his term, so he has a justification to help the president, who is a plant in the large opposition party. 32. 15 days before martial law was declared, a large number of background checks were requested from banks on civic groups, the reason being an investigation into violations of the National Security Act. 33. During elections, democratic civic groups were always mobilized and placed at the vote counting site. 34. If we continue like this anyway, we won’t be able to do anything for the remaining two and a half years, so we can avoid the requirements for impeachment and declare martial law. It is possible that they judged that if they could draw attention to the National Election Commission and present evidence of election fraud, they could neutralize the opposition's 190 seats and bring about political change. 35. There was a meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan on the morning of the declaration of martial law. 36. Kyrgyzstan was exposed for election fraud using Korean-made vote counting machines a few years ago, and the president resigned and the new government is the current government. It is possible that he received some advice from here. 37. The Democratic Party, which made a fuss about breaking windows and threatening citizens at the National Assembly, did not talk about the National Election Commission raid. 38. Anyone could see that this was worse, with mobile phones being stolen, real property being stolen, and a lot more people being deployed, but they gritted their teeth and pretended not to notice. 39. If this becomes a public issue, it will be a very big blow to the Democratic Party because public opinion will be formed about why the National Election Commission was robbed, wondering if there really was some election fraud. 40. When the story of the National Election Commission raid was reported in some news, the ridiculous story that the National Election Commission was raided in order to amend the Constitution and remain in power for a long period of time was spread. 41. Not only is it not election season at this point, but the Constitutional Amendment and the National Election Commission have nothing to do with it.

It all begins with “I’m so disappointed, bur oh well, it will end in 4 years, so just hunker down.”

A unanimous vote in Congress should be a clear and loud message for the dictator wannabe
Everyone only comes up with criticisms of martial law, but there is a different side to the case. The ruling party opposed it, but the opposition party often moved to abolish the information law and the national security law. The separation of powers between the legislature, the administration, and the judiciary was paralyzed. Due to the tyranny of the huge opposition party, the National Assembly tried to impeach 22 government officials. The government budget was also cut, and the state administration was not operating normally. It was clearly wrong to declare martial law prematurely. But no one is saying why it was declared. No one explains why it was declared. You should know that the tyranny of the huge opposition party was also a major cause. I hope our country will not become a laughing stock for foreign media. I'm Korean. I didn't know martial law was declared, but I found out after watching the news in the morning. Sometimes, soldiers were pushed and fell by angry citizens. Then, the citizens made gestures that seemed to protect the fallen soldiers with their arms, and told the citizens to 'bite back' and lift the fallen soldiers up. In one video, a citizen was pushed hard by a soldier, and there was also a video of two other martial law soldiers approaching the citizen, hugging him, patting him, and saying, 'Please bite back.' The withdrawing martial law forces bowed their heads to the citizen, saying, 'I'm sorry.' Citizens who saw it said, 'No. Thank you for always protecting the country.' Also, a woman said to the withdrawing soldiers, 'Goodbye, my beloved sons.' Citizens gave silent applause to the departing soldiers. The country is noisy because of the stupid president.

Preview of what's going to happen in the US
The real purpose of Korea's declaration of martial law was to investigate voting fraud by the National Election Commission. The deployment of military forces in the National Assembly was a means to focus attention, and in reality, more military troops were deployed to the National Election Commission than to the National Assembly. Soldiers responded more proactively than those deployed to the National Assembly and collected various cell phone and IT information.
lie
6. Immediately after the declaration of martial law, hundreds of Korean Confederation of Trade Unions gathered at the National Assembly to block the streets and protest, and all the pickets related to martial law were already made (they were busy coming out in a hurry, but when did they make these?)
There is room to see it as
26. Anything you say you didn’t know about America is unpublished
And they call n Korea a dictatorship 😂🤣
