I speak english with a soft voice and a danish accent while I walk you through each move of this amazing game. I explain everything as if I was talking to a complete chess beginner, so it should be easy for everybody to follow along. And who knows? Maybe you'll even learn how to win in chess yourself!

    For anyone who is interested in the story behind the name of this game: As said in the video this game was played in 1852 between Anderssen and Dufresne. This game was first analyzed by Howard Staunton in 1853; then by Wilhelm Steinitz, the first world champion, in 1879. Steinitz famously remarked the game and described it as, "an evergreen in the laurel crown of the departed chess hero." A lovely showing of admiration from a world champion. Hence, The Evergreen Game.

    I'm fairly sure I know why queen f5 is played at 17:10. He's trying to generate a tactic where he captures the pawn on e5 with knight on c6, when the knight on f3 recaptures he can win the knight on e4. This doesn't work if the queen is on g6 because when whites knight captures on e5 it would attack the queen, so black doesn't have time to take the e4 knight

    • @BScottyJRL
      @BScottyJRL 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The problem is that if white recaptures with the knight on e5, black has to re-take with the queen and can't take on e4 with the bishop first. Otherwise rook takes bishop, and then the knight on e5 is protected. If queen takes the rook it's mate in 3.
      Of course the queen taking on e5 also has problems because now white can move the knight on e4 and attack the queen with the rook, also pinning the knight on e7. Stockfish also gives the absolutely savage bishop xe7, which cannot be recaptured because if king or queen recaptures the knight on e4 moves, pinning the queen to the king.
      I also think he's trying to load up on the pawn on e5 though, probably plans to castle and move the knight on e7 to g6 or something

    He moved the queen to get a trump card for the advance of the knights. Once the first knight moved, the other can move and be protected by the first. Moving the queen let’s you take space and back up a pawn or something that would attack the knight. Just an idea, that’s kinda what I was looking at at that point in the video.

    17:13 the knight on e was threatening to go on g5 and attack the f7 square
    Or may be the bishop could also attack the f7 with a fork to king and queen and the queen on other hand would not be able to capture the knight because it was protected by the other knight
    I think this was the reason to play queen to f5

    He could have used the knight that is close to the castle to be infront of the queen and the queen cant actually touch it cause it will die and the risk isnt worth it so the knight can kill the pawn and when in that place he cant kill the knight with the king cause hes being “sniped” by the bishop hence giving the knight a chance to kill the rook or the rook moves and there can be no castle cause of the rook moving
    Ps: thats just my guess i am no chess expert at all

    Only thing I can think of is he was preparing to take the pawn on e5 with the knight, or perhaps move the knight on e7 after castles and load up even more on e5. The computer says the position is still very much in white's favor, and there are a few moves that are still completely winning for white other than bishop xd3 (rook ad1 and knight eg5 are both at least +4 according to depth 20 chess dot com stockfish). I would guess he just missed bishop xd3, and in fairness any other white move does improve the position for black, even if still completely winning for white.

      My idea was he was concerned about getting the queen trapped by nh5 filled by f3 or be2 depending on black’s response. This move offer black f4 for his queen, still central but cannot be punished without dropping material

      qf5 targets f2 and allows king side pawns to be developed towards the white king.
